Signs, bad and good

October 25, 2015 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

Bad: By a 56-31 majority, U.S. college students want speech to be regulated.

Good: By a 56-41 majority, Americans believe that more people carrying concealed guns would make us all safer. Particularly the young: “Younger Americans are more likely to choose the ‘safer’ option [in Gallup’s poll] than those aged 30 and above.”

So, young Americans -at college- are against free speech. But young Americans -in general- understand correctly that a well-armed society is a polite(r) society. I’ll take the difference as a sign that something is very wrong with U.S. colleges.

If I ran a business, any resume that included an Ivy League degree would go straight into the shredder.

I would reword the survey of college students to say this:

“Do you think that someone else should be able to punish you for what you say, even if you meant no offense by it, up to and including expulsion from college?”

See if they still get a majority.

See, I think college students think it will always be someone else’s speech that gets regulated, not their own.

So maybe THAT’S what they mean by trigger warning…

CS, great point! Here is a relevant paragraph from the link:

By a margin of 51 percent to 36 percent, students favor their school having speech codes to regulate speech for students and faculty…One-third of the students polled could not identify the First Amendment as the part of the Constitution that dealt with free speech. Thirty-five percent said that the First Amendment does not protect “hate speech,” while 30 percent of self-identified liberal students say the First Amendment is outdated.

The “30 percent of self-identified liberal students [who] say the First Amendment is outdated” are probably a lost cause. But……any other students who said ‘yes’ to speech codes probably are only confused people, who will figure it out someday.

ILC, actually, most liberals think that these regulations they put on everyone else NEVER apply to themselves. Observe how they scream at criticism of Obama, calling it racist, yet use the most offensive racial epithets on Ben Carson. Calling any criticism of Hillary sexism, yet using Carly Fiorina’s sex against her. Going so far as to call the term, “politically correct”, a term THEY COINED, is now politically incorrect. The longer a liberal remains a liberal the more they become blind to their own hypocrisy, but they will see it, when they become the target of those more socialist and tyrannical than themselves.

Those same college-educated “elites” naturally expect to be the next Commissars commanded the gun crews; while the reality is they’ll be the poor bastards down in the ditch who were just forced to dig their own graves.

Sadly Ted B., There Ain’t No Justice. They probably _will_ be the next Commissars, or at the very least live comfortably as Outer Party apparatchiks.

Don’t worry, there will be plenty of us left to fill the ditches.
