I was thinking about the Cold War today.
Suppose that during all of Stalin’s atrocities, and all of his mass murders, and the subsequent regimes with their gulags and torture chambers… the entire political leadership was telling us, “Most Communists are actually good people.”
Suppose it was the official position of the US Government and its media appendages that Communism was actually a good thing; but a thing that had been hijacked by extremists, who were practicing a bastardized form of Communism.
Suppose we were repeatedly warned by our political leadership that we should never, ever speak ill of Communism; suppose that throughout the Soviet Era, Americans were made to be ashamed of ever speaking out against Communism.
Do you think we ever would have defeated the Soviet Union?
Apparently the Venezuelans didn’t follow that advice Sunday night. They elected a 2/3 supermajority of anti-Chavista deputies in their Congress.
But isn’t that what Socialists tell us now? That the problem isn’t Socialism, it’s just the wrong people doing it?
Yeah. I just lost someone I thought had a good head on their shoulders. Skin color won out. Things are going to get ugly.
Thank you V the K for sharing your Musings. Great take on the lack of historical perspective in this Country.
#2 is right. And that is in fact what most liberals still think. That’s a part of the reason that we still have to hear them drone on about Hitler and the Holocaust (zzzzz) while the hugely more disastrous 70 year global rampage of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and all their cronies goes right down the memory hole. “No Enemies To the Left.”
Hey if a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter for an esteemed media source like the NYT not only denied that 12 million people died because of a mass famine caused by Uncle Joe but also to shouted down the dissent of the truth tellers, who are we to judge Communism? Nuance, comrades!
When I was in High School and started College in the 70s, that’s exactly what they taught us. Some teachers and professors might grudgingly-admit that perhaps Stalin was an aberration, “…But tough times called for desperate measures.”
– Khrushchev was misunderstood.
– Nixon went to China; Toasted Mao.
– Brezhnev was a reformer.
– Che’ was a T-shirt…
what you said about imagine about communism is exactly what the democrat party-media complex has been telling us for decades.
