Lame WaPo Hack Attacks Ted Cruz’s Daughters

If a Conservative publication published a cartoon depicting Obama’s children as monkeys, the Washington Post would probably be pretty outraged about that. On the other hand, a cartoon depicting Republican Ted Cruz’s children as monkeys… completely okay.

Can I just add something else? That cartoon is incredibly lame. There’s no humor, no irony, no cleverness. Just a hack cartoonist depicting the children of someone she disagrees with as monkeys. Is this what passes for insightful commentary at the Washington Post?

  1. Though it happened about 50 years ago, I have a vivid memory of giving a penny to an organ grinder’s monkey.

Turns out that organ grinders are interesting:

  2. I am waiting for lil letter mike, rusty and the other liberals who follow this blog to comment on this cartoon. I wonder what their response will be?

  3. TnnsNe1 why?
Its obviously wrong to involve family of politicians in political atracks and V is correct to be unhappy with the Washington Post

Hopefully you were similarly outraged when conservatives attacked Obamas family.
Like when Glenn Beck attcked Obamas kids
Or when fox calls The first lady fat.
Or when staffere write op ed peices attacking Obamas kids
Or when haters call Mrs Obama a mooch

  4. Mrs Obama is both an adult and an advocate for policy (e.g. changes to the school lunch program). She has also attacked Republicans for opposing her policies. Her involvement in politics makes her fair game. The insistence of the media that she is a stunning and beautiful woman despite visual evidence to the contrary makes her looks fair game.

  5. Lil letter mike confuses adults and children, again. Are we seeing a pattern? Funny, I read a lot of conservative blogs/news sites but don’t recall the Obama children being compared to animals. Please post links to those infractions.

  6. Mrs. Obama is a grown woman. Obama’s children are teenagers, and I would like to see some proof of his children being called monkeys before I grant you any credibility, little letter mike.

  7. I dunno.
I am not a fan of attacking a politician’s wife.

But at least we can all agree that its wrong to attack children of politician

  8. Actually mike, yes, we were outraged when Chelsea was attacked during Clinton’s term. And Obama’s children. You just don’t do that.

What I don’t buy is the editor’s excuse that he didn’t see the cartoon before it was published. I think he saw it, didn’t think anything of it, until the feedback started, then he looked again and realized, “Oh yeah…this is inappropriate.”

That cartoonist herself? Her excuse is simply CYA, and doesn’t even do that.

  9. Yup.. and no one, I mean no one, on the left made fun of or threatened Mrs. Palin’s children. Not one single joke about how her youngest son should have been aborted. Not one, I tell you, not one. Nor did they make fun of Mrs. Romney. Nor did they make fun of Mr. Palin.

The left has opened the doors for cartoons of Chelsea and her “vote getting” womb. How many fertility drugs did she take to get the timing right to have a baby right smack dab in the middle of her mother’s campaign. Should we make jokes about who the father is? I know there were no jokes about the parentage of the Palin’s youngest child.

Also, there have not been any demeaning comments about Mrs. Carson’s appearance. Funny how the left plays nasty but expects everyone else to play nice. Then when there is push back for them crossing the line, they get all bent out of shape.

For little letter mike…. The science is settled, liberals are emotionally stunted adults who stopped maturing around 8th grade. 97% of non-liberal psychiatrists agree. It is settled science.

  10. I don’t think that the timing of Chelsea’s pregnancy was planned. If that were true, they would simply have had the birth in 2016 instead, since she was virtually unopposed this year.

No, I think it just happened, but boy is she cashing in on the Grandma vibes.

  11. No, mikey, we can’t.

You’re a lying little piss boy who screamed that attacking Ted Cruz’s kids was okay because of Michelle Obama.

You want us to unilaterally disarm while you savage and bully the children of conservatives.

This is not surprising; gay liberals like yourself see children as objects for you to use for sexual pleasure or chop up to sell for parts. You don’t see any value in them over than self-gratification and that’s why you abuse and bully them like this.

    Comment by North Dallas Thirty — December 23, 2015 @ 5:29 pm - December 23, 2015

  12. Also, this is instructive how piss boy Mikey screams that attacks on Ted Cruz’s kids are justified after the fact.

This is the leftist mindset. Power. The Obama Party and Hillary Clinton’s mouthpieces published this cartoon because their only concern is raw power. They have no morals, no sense of decency, nothing that would restrain their behavior. They thought by savaging Ted Cruz’s kids they could win an election, and this they did it.

The only cure for this is simple. The Obama Party and Hillary Clinton show us that in their treatment of Muslims. Hillary bragged that the reason she panders to Muslims is because they will turn terrorist if they are offended or don’t exactly what they want. So if you want to stop Hillary and Democrats, you must terrorize them. Period.

    Comment by North Dallas Thirty — December 23, 2015 @ 5:35 pm - December 23, 2015

  13. So it’s perfectly acceptable to call gay people pedophiles but portraying Cruz’s children as monkeys–that’s crossing a line.

    Eh VtheK

  14. The WaPo definitely showing ass this time round. Attacks on children is out of bounds no matter who the politician is. The fact that people at the WaPo think provides any benefit to their cause has me wondering just how stupid they can be.

  15. #10… “Chelsea Clinton got her Christmas present a little early this year.
Just yesterday, the 35-year-old announced that she is expecting her second child with husband Marc Mezvinsky, and while strolling around New York City, Clinton shared that the soon-to-be family of four is filled with joy over the happy news.
“We’re all so excited,” she told the paparazzo. “Could you imagine a better present?”
Chelsea got some help from her firstborn when revealing the pregnancy announcement, by taking to Twitter to share a photo of her daughter, Charlotte—who she welcomed into the world last September—and writing: “Next summer, Charlotte is going to be a big sister! Feeling very blessed & grateful this holiday season.”

    Yup. Planned…

  16. While I agree politician’s children should be off limits; I do wish politicians would also keep their children out of it.

Cruz should not have been using his children in all the ads that he was using them in. The same goes for Obama as well.

Further, could you image the howls of protest if the cartoon, showing monkeys, were about Obama’s kids or any other black politician?

    Comment by charles — December 23, 2015 @ 11:53 pm - December 23, 2015

  17. If Senator Cruz wants his very-young children off-limits, he should not be using them as campaign spokespersons in his ads… Smiling children in the background is one-thing. Asking them to parrot a script that they probably don’t yet understand is tip-toeing up to The Line and probably oozing across-it.

I also think that the WaPo stepped over The Line as-well in the manner and form of their attack. But a more intelligent criticism of Sen. Cruz’s use of his own children might have been warranted.

  18. James Edwards… let me let you in on a little secret, and I hope the other commenters will forgive me for spoiling their fun. The reason that you get called a pedophile and get made fun of here is because you literally bring it up every single time you post. It’s ridiculous, and we’re not going to move beyond it until you do.

In short, this is all going to go away if you say that molesting is unacceptable and then never bring it up again. Otherwise this just looks like the least impressive attempt at a “gotcha” ever on your part.

  21. I’m a Cruz guy, sorta, but I don’t like the feigned indignation coming from his camp about this. What were they expecting the media to do? If anything, the MSM stepped into a big pile. I’d ignore the attacks on his kids, unless they stoop extremely low. BTW, is a a prerequisite now that a would-be president must have only two daughters?

    Comment by Niall — December 24, 2015 @ 11:26 am - December 24, 2015

  22. Only the children of the leftists are off limits, but it is always open season on the children of conservatives. In 2008u, Bristol Palin, who wasn’t a part of her mother’s campaign was the subject of vicious attacks. Even after Mrs. Palin gave birth to her son, they said it was not Sarah’s but Bristol’s born out of wedlock.

    Comment by Roberto — December 24, 2015 @ 11:46 am - December 24, 2015

  23. Niall,

I think the indignation is a matter of making them live by their own words. Something I enjoy doing myself.

    Comment by The_Livewire — December 24, 2015 @ 11:50 am - December 24, 2015

  24. All I have to say is that:

    (1) Generally, it should be okay to portray children under the age of 10 or so as chimpanzees, because regardless of race, that’s how they behave.

    (2) I’m very glad someone explained to me that the monkeys in the cartoon were meant to represent Cruz’s own children, because otherwise I would naturally have taken the message to mean that Cruz was manipulating his own constituents like an organ-grinder’s monkeys. (That’s just the language of political cartoons — if the organ-grinder is a politician, then you can assume by default that the dancing monkeys are average voters… UNLESS, for example, the monkeys are dressed in Supreme Court robes, or are wearing little hats that say “Third World leaders” or “feminist academics” or whatever.)

    (3) Tying back to point (1), the only offensive thing about the “pickaninny” stereotype of a little black child in ragged clothes with hair in be-ribboned cornrows, chomping on a watermelon, etc., is that there was a time in our history when little black children were NEVER portrayed any other way.

Whereas little white children were SOMETIMES shown hanging out barefoot in raggedy clothes and stealing apples from the grouchy farmer a la Tom Sawyer — in other words, behaving much like “no-account pickaninnies,” but OTHER times the white kids were shown properly dressed for church and enthusiastically studying Latin or darning socks or generally behaving like Good Scouts.
