Do not expect the national media to cover this pair of stories much. It kind of shatters the leftist narrative that armed citizens will lead to gunfights over parking spaces and mishandled coffee orders.
The state of Maryland, in contrast, in 2013 enacted some of USA’s most restrictive gun laws. In Maryland, you will not be issued a permit to carry unless you can convince local law enforcement that you have a need. Guns are strictly registered. Scary-looking guns are banned, as are “high-capacity” “magazine clips.” By law, you may only transport a gun in a locked case, with ammunition locked separately, out of access to the driver of the car; only between your home and the gun shop or range. Stop for gas, and you may have committed a felony; which means the state can confiscate your guns and put you in jail. Out of state drivers are routinely pulled over and subjected to interrogation if they come from states with less restrictive gun laws.
In other words, they enacted the kind of “Common Sense Gun Laws” called for by the left. How is that working for them?
Baltimore isn’t just back to 1990s-level homicide rates. It has surpassed them — and with a month and a half to go before the year’s end.
Given the city’s smaller population today, and the stack of killings that occurred in recent days, 2015 has officially become the deadliest year, per capita, in Baltimore history.
