Started writing a post about Obama bullshirt propaganda townhall for gun control, but then I saw this instead. Enjoy.

Slightly spoilery yet relevant background stuff for Episode 7. By the time the film opens, the New Republic is the dominant political entity in the galaxy, and the Galactic Empire has withered away. The First Order is a radical remnant of the Empire that has slowly been building its strength in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy while the Republic is bogged down in politics. Leia founded the Resistance to combat the First Order, but the Republic has done next to nothing to support the Resistance because the Republic sees the First Order as a non-threat. This willful ignorance leaves the Republic a very soft target…
I don’t know about you guys, but the first Order sure does sound like Daesh to me.

@Sean L:
Ordinarily, and in a sane world, I’d agree with you, but exactly who made thsi movie has to be considered. The Hollywood elite don’t consider Daesh to be anything but another victimized group that’s lashing out at those mean ol’ Americans.
Frankly, I’m of the opinion that it’s more likely that they consider the First Order with all their radicalism to be people like you and I. Or, more specifically, they see conservatives as being as irredeemably wicked as the villains in a Star Wars movie.

Ironically, Reason named “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” as one of the least libertarian shows of all time. I won’t do a correct quote, but it basically boiled down to, “the Jedi work for the government.” Never mind the fact that the bad guys on that show frequently engaged in kidnapping of political enemies’ children, terrorism, assassination (attempted and successful) of political enemies, more than a couple instances of attempted genocide, and slavery. That, and there’s a subplot of Palpatine using the war to increase crony capitalism and nationalize various sectors of the economy. Hardly acts that I would think libertarians would support.
I like a few libertarians, but sometimes they make no sense whatsoever.

Usually it’s the tin-foil hats that turn me off.
Otherwise, they can usually be counted-on to be bat-shit crazy if on an electoral ballot.
@ Ted B.: Milo Yiannopoulos had a rather accurate description of libertarians: “They are like teenagers, all they ever want to talk about is weed and hacking.”
