Canadian blogger James Campbell came out as a gay conservative. Familiar story: Conservatives have no problem with him being gay. Gays have a Big Problem with him being conservative.
I play and coach in a LGBT soccer league. After a game one night I was approached by one of the organizers, who warned me that other members were talking about my comments, “found my views repellent” and that I was “making enemies.” I asked him to specify which particular view was so offensive. Apparently it was an anti-Hillary article I posted. I had attacked the queen bee and the hive was responding.
My fiancé’s gay friends pressured him over my views and in turn he applied this pressure to me. He was extremely upset after he found out that one of my favourite books was The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. His gay friends had persuaded him that only sociopaths could enjoy such a book.
Gay men accused me of having “internalized homophobia” for failing to celebrate with gusto the giant publicity stunt which was marriage equality — a teaspoon of distraction in exchange for a bucket of freedom.
I was called a sociopath, a psychopath, “cisgendered,” right-winger, retard, fascist, arrogant and dangerous. I was even anonymously threatened with violence.
This bit was kinda interesting.
For years, while living in Vancouver, I kept my silence whenever the topic of politics came up. I remained silent while my friends chimed in with the canned laughter as Jon Stewart ridiculed conservatives.
I remained silent when my friends said, “Isn’t Justin Trudeau’s gender neutral cabinet just awesome?”
I remained silent as my friends talked about how wonderful they were for starting a petition to let more Syrian migrants in.
Very telling how leftism works. The leftist leadership sends down a message, “Syrian immigrants are good. You must support Syrian immigration.” And that becomes the thing everyone supports, mindlessly and without question. because not supporting means you’re not part of the tribe, you’re not one of ‘the cool kids.’ Being on the Progressive Left is like being in middle school… forever.
I could not stand living like that.
““Syrian immigrants are good. You must support Syrian immigration.” And that becomes the thing everyone supports, mindlessly and without question.”
Sort of like saying: “We welcome our future executioners”?
Pretty telling if your fiancee doesn’t even know what your favourite books/authors are.
I went on a date last week. I knew it wasn’t going to work when the guy mentioned that he thought Black Lives Matter “has some valid points.” I knew it was really over when he made a pedophile priest joke, and when I informed him that I have an uncle who is a priest and didn’t appreciate such jokes, he tried to backpedal and say that had he known, “He would have known not to make the joke,” which I took to mean that he would’ve been fine with making the joke if I didn’t have a uncle who was a priest. Needless to say, it ain’t happening.
Happens to me all the time. You know what bothers me most? Being a student of German history and being called a Nazi, since Nazism can’t in any way shape or form be linked to any positions of the Republican party. On the marriage front, I’m for it, but I also see a big downside the way it was done. I think it will come back to bite us.
Aw, just hang in there. I’m sure these are really nice people in all other respects.
It is such a pity that some people are so grotesquely gouache in expressing their condescending elitism. Perhaps the poor, picked upon little dear could examine himself and pinpoint just what it is about himself that forces others to act this way.
We should have a Department of Visual Agitation and Unanimity* to deal with such social justice ambiguity problems.
(*) Already in existence at The People’s Cube.
That man needs a gay pre nuptial agreement.
As do all gay men entering into state-approved marriage.
Oh, what am I saying? The hetero divorce rate is 50%, but the LGBTQXYZ divorce rate will be less than 0.00001%, because LGBTQXYZ peoples have far more stable relationships.
And the “respectable” Right differs from the Progressive Left how? Let’s face it, the Right also castigates people who associate with undesirables or hold “unacceptable” views. It’s just that who is an undesirable or what an unacceptable view is slightly different.
What’s amazing is that this isn’t a parody: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/izak-pratt/the-gay-republican_b_7749436.html.
“the leftist leadership sends down a message,…and that becomes the thing everyone supports, mindlessly and without question.” look up yuri bezmanov on you tube sometime, you might find out the reason why.
all the rights movements favor a leftist government, why doesn’t any of the groups that they claim to support ever ask what rights do people have in leftist countries.?
Gay or straight, it’s not a good idea to come out as conservative in Minnesota! I was at a funeral once where the eulogy actually praised the dead woman for her hatred of Republicans.
@mnscorpio: Remind me to never move to Minnesota…
Sean could be worse you could have gone on this date with an illegal alien tranny.
“Meza said Rios-Covarrubias had agreed to baby-sit the child while the mother went to work. Meza said Solis would stop by and see her child just one day a week.
Police said they were tipped off Monday morning after a man Rios-Covarrubias had met online for sex showed up at the apartment at around 7 a.m. and noticed a bad odor.
He also observed the child bound and gagged with duct tape kept inside a closet, Meza said.”

No, it’s all-too-typical of those who have found Political Jesus. Reminds me of a twentysomething I encountered when working on a campaign years ago who noted his upbringing in Kansas and said “I was a Republican—until I came out and saw the light.” Because being gay means you should completely reevaluate your entire belief system.
Betcha anything “Izak” is his post-coming out “gay” name…
I recently discovered your website and visit it often. I never quite understood why the Gay community would ever be inclined towards today’s liberal. I often equated a liberal as a person that was all accepting, however I find conservatives to be far more accepting and rational of others. Keep up good work on site.
