Watching the debate… Donald Trump just said, in reply to Rubio’s (fair) criticism of his suggestion that he’s such a good leader that we (military officers) would follow his illegal order to deliberately target innocent family members of supposed terrorists that, “they’ll do as I tell them.”
No.
As an active Reservist officer, Mr. Trump, my oath is to the Constitution of the United States and (thank God!), I am authorized and obligated to disobey illegal orders such as “take out their families.”
Please, America. Please, Republican Party. Save us from this person.
Short of that, please explain how this charlatan has fooled so many Republicans, of all people.
-Nick (ColoradoPatriot, from HHQ)
The Republicans cannot save you from Trump. They betrayed their very base and that is why Trump is where he is, because of all the candidates, he was the loudest critic of them, and everything connected to them, who was clearly not a Democrat.
The GOP had their chance in 1996 and went with moderate Bob Dole. They managed, by the skin of their teeth to win it in 2000 even with a very weak Democrat, and were it not for 9/11 could easily have lost it in 2004. Then they tried turning moderate McCain into a conservative, who refused to go on the attack against Obama lest he be called a racist. Then Romney…oh, do not get me started on Romney…he showed more moxie today bashing Trump than he ever showed in 2012 against Obama. We put Republicans in charge of the House and Senate in 2014 on the promise they would stop the runaway spending….and they betrayed us.
We do not trust them anymore. It is at the point where anyone by the status quo is preferable, and Trump is not the status quo.
The more they attack him, the more I am willing to vote for him, just to say, “SCREW YOU, ESTABLISHMENT!! SCREW YOU, DEMOCRATS!!”
Concur with Craig Smith. Trump isn’t fooling people so much as tapping into the populist feeling that, to paraphrase Wordworth ‘Government is too much with us.” The Republican Party no longer stands for anything. It’s abundantly clear that all they want is to stay in office. Credit to the Democrats: they want power just as much, if not more, but they at least have beliefs that they act on.
Agreed. The popularity of Trump is because of repeated betrayals of the base by the repub “leadership”. That and he isn’t all polished and focus-grouped and neutered by political advisers. Kind of refreshing, if cringeworthy.
This is a bad election for the members of the republican party to work on throwing the bastards out because the alternative on the dem side is so horrible, but the repub party bosses have done this to themselves. And none of the current alternatives to Trump is very good either, so it’s not as if the base is failing to see another Reagan in the pool of candidates.
Craig Smith put it all together nice, thank you.
I love you, Nick, but these guys are all right.
Agree with Craig and the others above.
The GOP have shown more willingness, more nastiness, and more eagerness in attacking Trump than they EVER did in opposing Obama.
The irony is, had they expended even a thimbleful of that energy on attacking Obama these last seven years, there would BE no Trump on the national stage.
Instead, the GOP attacks Trump, all but admits they would rather let Haggard Queen Hillary win than allow Trump to, and continues to crap all over their voter base.
Sorry, GOP, you made this bed, you sleep in it.
Nick,I share your concern. However during WW 2 we targeted not just Nazi families , but whole cities. That was the last war we won decisively. Is that the right approach? I don’t know , but the American people want to win and be done with this war.
If it means less smelly Islamists here then I’m fine with that.
What stuck out of the debate for me (aside from Trump’s TMI about his wang) was Trump’s assertion that young Americans don’t want to work summer jobs at luxury beach resorts. Are You F–kin’ Kidding Me?
Ace really nailed Trump;s debate performance:
Nick, I am not sure it is entirely fair to say that Trump has proposed “to deliberately target innocent family members of supposed terrorists.” That is a straw man with his pants on fire.
“Lone survivor” Marcus Luttrell and his team discovered their quarry was indeed in the mountain village in Afghanistan which they were surveilling. What followed was a monumental waste of military purpose.
Most of us little people in fly-over country are not so innocent about “collateral damage” in the heat of war. To us, the My Lai massacre is a long way from what now constitutes the Rules of Engagement.
The Donald is not giving a command, he is talking smack. There is a lot of distance between strutting your stuff and ordering a hit.
I am not condoning or approving of The Donald’s rhetoric. But neither am I seeing him as exposing his inner Hitler.
Since when have terrorist’s families been innocent? They’re teaching their families how to strap bombs to each other and strapping bombs to kids then sending them off in crowded markets and gatherings. He was absolutely correct. If the family was innocent they would have stopped that lone family member from being a terrorist instead they let him or her go do “good” for their people.
Romney (and others) attacking Trump is going to accomplish one thing: a Hillary win.
But, Republican leaders need to be reminded that history will also blame them for the downfall of the Republic.
Trump university was $5k to get real estate tips from Trump, to anyone capable of utilizing his tips $5k is not worth suing over.
General BlackJack Pershing stopped jihad against white nations for 42years by killing 49 moslems, burying them with pigs and letting the 50th moslem walk away to report it.
In WWII more germans died in the 5 years after the war than during the war & during the war Dresden was a war crime. Chuck Yeager’s autobiography admitted to committing war crimes.
First comment from Craig is SPOT on. I’m it total agreement. My vote for Trump is a big middle finger the democrats, liberals, republicans and the elite/political establishment.
I don’t give a shit if you are ticked off about the Republican ineptness. Voting for Trump as a way of sticking it to the powers to be is solely a hissy fit. Cruz and Rubio are the only shot at constitutional govt. If Trump gets the nod, look for four years of Hillary. I will personally go Libertarian and some of my conservative friends will do likewise. If this transpires, maybe the blowhards that go with Trump will be sane and go with a winner like Cruz or Rubio in 2020.
Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, has an interesting take on Trump’s debate performance. The conclusion is interesting:
A Trump presidency would be messy. It would certainly introduce a new type of risk that we have not seen before.
Do you want more risk?
Generally speaking, you want to avoid risk when things are going well and accept risk when things are totally broken. If you think the country is doing well, and will continue to do so, Hillary Clinton is an excellent choice on the left, as is Marco Rubio on the right. They will keep things mostly the same.
But if you think government is rigged against your interests, and unlikely to improve on its own, you want a bloodless revolution. And the candidate you hire for the revolution is likely to have rough edges.
Adams isn’t a Trumpeter but he’s been writing a lot on Trump’s abilities to sell his medicine.

My own view is that if Trump gets elected, he will disappoint many of his followers. And if he loses, at least he will go down with a fight unlike Dole, McCain, and Romney. If the hanging chads (tea leave) had been read a bit differently, then I suspect W would have also gone down with nary a ripple.
@12, Paul, very spot on, good point!
