The Fall of the American Empire

March 29, 2016 by V the K

Regular readers are aware of this blogger’s opinion that the United States in its current form is fiscally and socially unsustainable, that the eventual disintegration of the USA is a historical inevitability. Kurt Schlichter — citing the Roman Empire as an example — thinks I’m an optimist.

Obama is the poster child for the ruling class’s decline. He is poorly educated – internalizing your commie prof’s clichés and lies does not make you educated even if your degree says “Harvard” – and utterly without any personal investment through service to his country (Obama in the military? That’s a laugh. Do they make camo mom pants?). Of course he has no respect for our norms and customs – he does not know anything about them and he has no personal investment in them. He has no business running anything, as he has amply demonstrated during perhaps the most damaging presidency since James Buchanan’s.

And then we have Donald Trump, who cares nothing for norms and customs and embraces raw power much as Obama and the left do, only he promises to protect the interests of a different constituency. Trump is a vulgar fool milking phony populism for power, best understood as a particularly tacky Graachi. Unlike them, Trump is both ignorant and a coward, but like them, if he does get elected president, he will be cut off at the knees by the patricians of the establishment.

Hillary Clinton is an even more anti-Republic candidate. Like Trump and Obama, she cares nothing for anything but power. Another sub-par mind trading off her degrees from a half century ago, this unaccomplished, bitter harridan lacks the wisdom to chart a course that avoids aggravating our society’s already gaping wounds. Instead, she’ll pour salt into them for no reason other than her own delight at asserting power, gleefully poking at normals with initiatives like forcing women to accept men into their bathrooms and trying to disarm the law-abiding. Inevitably, she will be stunned when she finds her actions greeted by a reaction she cannot control, and the American Republic will disappear as her rule by power is replaced by her opponents’ rule by power. Oh, we may get a good emperor or two along the way, but history tells us how this story ends.

Read the whole thing.

Part of the frustration with the decline of our nation (and western civilization) is that we remember what we had. It’s like the ship has set sail. We can see, smell, hear, and almost touch what we’ve left behind, but we can never return. The ship has moved too far from shore to make the leap back to the dock. As idealistic as Cruz may be, it’s not even a Herculean task to turn the ship around…it’s impossible. At some point the courageous will abandon the futility of returning to shore and will guide the ship through the waters as quickly as possible to reach the next safe haven. That may take decades or centuries and dozens of visionaries, but hopefully there are those who love liberty enough to step up to be those guides.

Plato rightly pointed out that democracy devolves into anarchy. Enjoy the ride.

Only the fall of the Federal Government in Washington is likely. The 50 Sovereign States, most well managed and fiscally responsible, will continue practically unaffected.

My Passport will eventually say Gulf States of America.

I’m already making plans to move to Texas should it come to that.

This is largely due to Baby Boomers and their feel good economics, idealistic bullshit, and excesses. Gen
Xers and millenials aren’t much better either. All I can say, is enjoy the decline.

#2.. A lot of states, like my State of Maine, would collapse without financial help from the feds. We are the oldest state in the nation and a “welfare” state.

I think that the France of Louis XVI is a good example of our situation. France’s debt became too big to service and there were no more things to tax, the European money lenders would not advance any more money and there was wide spread discontent in the population (other than the elites). The king’s advisers turned to a political solution which ultimately led to the French revolution and the guillotine for most of the elites who could not flee the country, not to mention wide spread European warfare.

Hillary’s list is flawed, but the most egregious is the using the no fly list, to deny them the right to buy and own a gun. It has been proven that innocent people are on the list and those who should be aren’t.

My comment 12 should have been post on the thread above.

Trump with all of his negatives will arrive in Cleveland with the mosgt delegates. If he should fall short of the required for nomination it will be interesting to see The Esgtablishment in action. Already the “wanna be’s’ are hovering like vultures to pick Trump’s bones. There is Mitt, who wants to be be a three time loser, Gov. Scott, ” But I was on top of the list for almost a year,” Walker, Gov. John, “I won Ohio,” Kasich, and truth teller Senator Ted Cruz. The Papabilia is long, Govenor Cristie will offer, “I was elected twice in a blue state.” Will the Establishment resurrect Marco Rubio? If it should be anyone of these, it will be proof positive the people but the “dedo” inside the RNC tha picks the candidate. We will have become no better than a banana republic. As a resident of El Salvador, this is how the parties opperate, but as an American I will be disillusioned.

I think what’s most discouraging is that there are plenty of us who know what’s wrong but we’re without a single political leader who agrees and/or can articulate a rational path back to sane policy. Our opponents have effectively used the gaping wounds (real and mostly imaginary) of child psychology to ascend to power and once there are enough voters who are convinced they are the victims of those who keep the nation running, it’s over. Eventually, there is going to be a collapse and breakup but I don’t have confidence anyone will rise to the task of crafting a constitution that takes into account the flaws in human nature, i.e. no welfare system. Politicians have too much to personally lose in a system that doesn’t reward building ever-larger constituencies.

You will want to be set up in place before the fall, preferably with fruit/nut trees already planted.

Trump might be able to purge the US of illegals and take a massive debt burden off of us, but don’t risk getting stuck in a die verse city when the food stamp card fails.

Before the election you should have a couple months of shelf stable food, stored water +water filter, a -40 deg sleeping bag per person and lighting. I would recommend the 8 man tent version of this permanent glow in the dark crystal light. https://www.uvpaqlite.com/

[…] If it should be anyone of these, it will be proof positive the people but the “dedo” inside the RNC tha picks the candidate. […]

And yet, them’s the way the rules are set up. The Trumpets who yell about a “stolen nomination” don’t seem to understand that 80% isn’t good enough, any more than paying 80% of your grocery tab allows you to walk out of the supermarket with all your desired purchases.

The concept of having a nomination being only a convention formality is a relatively recent phenomenon. Most of the Presidents who have been elected have done so via an active convention nomination process. What will be interesting in the next few months is who is elected to the Rules Committee and any manipulation which might occur within.

A return to the good old days, caucusing in the smoke filled room in the back of the convention hall. “Mr. Chairman, a point of order.” I watched many beginning when Eisenhower defeated Senator Robert “Mr. Republican” Taft. I was elated to Goldwater, and so the anger in the faces of The Establishment, Senator Bill Scranton of PA., and Nelson Rockefeller. If we can only do it again.
