Senator Ben Sasse… one of the few conservatives the GOP Establishment was unsuccessful in defeating in 2014 … has penned keyboarded a letter decrying the horrible state of our political culture. The TL:DR version is: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are proof that both the Democrat and Republican parties suck worse than anything has ever sucked in the cosmological history of the multiverse and maybe we should consider a third party.
Based on the outcome of the primaries, one would be well within one’s reason to conclude that the Democrats and Republicans made a bet over who could nominate the worst candidate. And they both won. However, if you back it up a bit, the fault lies not in our political parties, but in the debased electorate that chooses them.
A buddy on the Mark Zuckerberg’s Personal Data Aggregator expressed it this way. (No link, it was in a closed group. Edited for clarity.)
Andrew Breitbart said that politics is downstream from culture. And perhaps the most egregious mistake conservatives have made in the last eight years is in telling themselves that what we have is a good, innocent country somehow held “hostage” against its will by bad people in Washington.
The truth is far harsher and less comforting. We don’t have a “good, innocent country.” What we have is a country that has completely lost its way, and resultantly we have a government very much reflective of that fact.
The problem with America today is not that the government does not reflect or is unresponsive to the desires of the body politic–it is that the government reflects the body politic far MORE than the Founders ever intended.
And the longer people continue in the self-delusion that their problem is the politicians, the longer it will take them to arrive at any kind of genuine solution.
An electorate that is greedy, corrupt, and ill-informed trendiness has elected a political class that has distilled those qualities to become a sort of balsamic reduction of greed, corruption, and trendy ignorance.
How long history will tolerate a culture grown so fat, lazy, and stupid is an open question.
I also blame it on our public education system. A truly educated populace would reject the positions espoused by Trump or Clinton (or Bernie Sanders for that matter).
Bert and Ernie now HIV+

” a new ad for a home HIV/STD testing kit that features the iconic Bert and Ernie Sesame Street puppets reading the “results” of their screening.”
Trump is shining a spotlight on CUCKs, and letting people see how dirty politics is. But if people don’t like Trump they would hate what would come next if he doesn’t make it to the white house.
I need a Pinochet to send the helicopters to flight.
Round up the commies, fly over main street, And drop them from a staggering height.
These days I don’t even know who the “Conservatives” are anymore.
The chattering-class GOP Elites certainly have failed. The small business Main Street GOPers have given up and gone-home, disillusioned by the current GOP Establishment. (And I don’t mean the Quisling Club-for-Growth types who have betrayed all principle.) The elected Social conservatives (small-C) have metastasized into the bathroom-police.” And Reaganism has officially-died as far as our elected officials actual performance in-office.
“Respect for the Constitution” died years ago in either Party, replaced by “what can I get away with until the Courts rein me back-slightly”. “Extra-Constitutional” has replaced “Unconstitutional” as a modes operandi for governance. Executive-branch Regulations have pushed aside Laws Passed by Congress — with Congress’ connivance and approval since it leaves the Congress-critters out of the accountability-loop when their constituents get restive.
That the Party of FDR and JFK is left with Mrs. William B. Clinton is it’s “best choice” is as pathetic a display as the GOP-16’s performance against Trump.
@ Steve, did you write those verses?
It has electrolytes.
The bathroom police? ROFLMAO……..when did less than 2% of the population believe they could force the majority normal heterosexual population to aid and abet their delusions and neurotic behavior and associated paraphilias to most impressionable amongst us? May we, as the majority normal heterosexual population, suggest to all the batmerdecrazy gender benders within the APAs/ABA, the federal judiciary and the executive branch to self fornicate.
“aid and abet their delusions and neurotic behavior and associated paraphilias”
aid and abet their delusions and neurotic behavior/associated paraphilias
One wonders why Sasse didn’t enter the GOP race for President if he’s so concerned. Maybe he prefers to have a safe Senate seat for 6 more years and just snipe from the sidelines. He should: “Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way”.
Ted B. “The elected Social conservatives (small-C) have metastasized into the bathroom-police.”
This comment succinctly illustrates why “gays” (as a group) will never really be allies with conservatives in the battle to roll-back and defeat leftism … and, why, in the end, most “gays”, just like most “libertarians”, will (suicidally) side with the leftists.
Its actually a song about Pinochet. I found it when trying to explain a free helicopter ride joke.
Does everyone who is concerned need to run themselves? The Republican clown car had 17 warm bodies not that long ago; was there really room for another one? It takes a lot of many things to run for president not the least of which is money and a strong constitution. I don’t blame anyone who saw the race this time out and decided not to run, especially after watching the orange head clown ridicule his opponents as opposed to articulating his own ideas (other than a great, big, wonderful wall that I’m betting will never be built).
Besides, there were already two freshmen Senators in the race, plus another second-termer. All faced criticism for “not doing the jobs they were elected to do”, and to a certain point, rightly so. I think Senator Sasse deserves an opportunity to articulate his point of view without being accused of having ulterior motives, at least for awhile.
I deleted Breitbart, Drudge Report, Sean Hannity, and Rush from my listening and viewing pleasure as they are in the tank for Trump. Anyone that is for that loony nutjob will be boycotted by me.
This election cycle has been in the works for a while. The fact that Trump has enough support to hijack the GOP is a huge wake-up call. We’ll be lucky if the GOP survives this.
Good Grief, I like coming to Gay Patriot, but if this is going to turn into a Trump bashing fest, before he actually does anything, that will be a total disappointment….. I had to leave hotair.com and a few others because of it…. He wasn’t my choice, but not that he is here, give the guy a chance #neverhillary
Paul’s comment (#1) is correct and indicative of the feedback loop that has gotten us here. The gov reflects the culture, but like the entertainment industry, it also leads and breeds the culture. “Extortion,” a book by Peter Schweizer (also wrote “Clinton Cash”) exposes how much of that corruption works.
