The gay pastor who claimed someone at Whole Foods put the word ‘Fag’ on his cake has issued an apology (without actually admitting “It was me. I did it to get attention and money. I thought it would work because social leftists are gullible patsies with overwhelming vulnerability to bias confirmation.”)
Today I am dismissing my lawsuit against Whole Foods Market. The company did nothing wrong. I was wrong to pursue this matter and use the media to perpetuate this story. I want to apologize to Whole Foods and its team members for questioning the company’s commitment to its values, and especially the bakery associate who I understand was put in a terrible position because of my actions. I apologize to the LGBT community for diverting attention from real issues. I also want to apologize to my partner, my family, my church family, and my attorney.
I am left wondering if there was anyone who ever believed this was legit.
Well, he couldn’t very well say “I’m sorry, I’m the one who did it,” V. Then he would be wide open for a counter-suit. And I’m pretty sure that’s something that he would not like to be wide open for.
I hope the Whole Foods continues its lawsuit for defamation. Maybe if these hoaxsters get a financial loss or two they might stop making this crap up.
Except that he’s already been served with a counter-suit. Plus, the Newser alert I got on the story indicated that he actually admitted it was a hoax, though I haven’t opened it to drill down whether that’s accurate or just an extrapolation of the story.
So do I, though their bean counters will probably advise them to drop it. For years, Wal-Mart Stores Inc aggressively fought each and every legal claim, even for relatively minor slip-and-falls, against the advice of accountants. Management’s theory was that every successful settlement breeds another ten claims that also have to be defended. I think many of these retailers and manufacturers who get these rat-tail-in-my-canned-chili claims are simply going to have to aggressively start fighting back. With the advent of social media and endless content hunts for clickbait media sites, the old maxim that “a lie can travel around the world before the truth puts its pants on” is true now more than ever before.
No, Fake Crime is Hate.
Maybe it’s time return to imposing penalties on those who make false accusations. (A long time ago, they got the penalty for the crime that they tried to inflict on someone they knew to be innocent.)
The thing about nonsense like this is that it isn’t just the company that loses; it is the hourly wage earners (that the left claims they care about sooo much) who get grilled and, sometimes, actually blamed for the fake hate crimes.
But, then the left is known for walking all over those “beneath” them.
This is so true. Every conference or similar event I’ve attended where the attendees are on the left of the political spectrum (including the majority of TLBGQXYZ events), the majority of the attendees treat service personnel like crap. They leave their trash on banquet tables (a favorite activity is to clean out one’s purse, messenger bag or backpack and discard what they don’t want), their hotel rooms like pigsties, and act like every service person is their personal butler and they are Diana Ross, rarely acknowledging or making eye contact with The Help. As someone who has held service jobs in the past, I do the exact opposite and always try to make their lives easier, not harder.
@ RSG: I have the same policy for service employees. Having worked in a deli in college, I know how frustrating it is to have a customer who doesn’t thank you or who gets annoyed when their super-specific, just-so order takes longer to fill then the minute they allotted it.
Well, I hate to say “I TOLD YOU SO,” but, well…
Incidentally, here’s me doing my Rusty imitation by providing the link to the news article: http://www.kvue.com/news/local/whole-foods-accuser-drops-lawsuit-over-cake/196619953
And I agree with the above posters – I hope that Whole Foods sues the living crap out of this “pastor.” (I put his name in quotation marks because I don’t know of any church that would put up with this type of behavior.)
Let’s just say his chickens have come home to roost. Period.
Regards,
Peter H.
@ Peter Hughes: Probably some sort of one-church micro-denomination. Judging from what a raging prick this guy is, that’s probably the only way he could become a pastor in the first place.
@ Sean – I totally agree. This pastor forgot that thou shalt not bear false witness.
Whole Foods should sent him a cake with the word “Liar” written on it.
Also – notice the MSM bias in play. When the story first broke, the headlines read “Gay pastor” or “gay man” accuses Whole Foods of anti-gay slur. But when it’s discovered he was lying, news outlets drop the gay emphasis and now the headlines read “Texas Pastor” admits hoax.
The media loves to hate on anything Christian, anything Texan or anything conservative Republican. It must break the media’s heart to admit a gay man outlandishly lied to gain sympathy and money in yet ANOTHER fake hate story.
Regards,
Peter H.
Really, Peter H.? Because the New York Times, pretty much the poster child of liberal mainstream media, is still calling him a gay pastor — in their headline, no less.: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/17/us/gay-pastor-apologizes-after-accusing-whole-foods-of-writing-slur-on-chocolate-cake.html
And here’s a TV station: http://pix11.com/2016/05/16/gay-pastor-apologizes-drops-lawsuit-accusing-whole-foods-for-writing-slur-on-cake/
And here’s the liberal Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2016/05/16/gay-pastor-admits-he-faked-homophobic-slur-on-whole-foods-cake/
Seriously, man. Ease up on your confirmation bias.
