New York City to Fine Businesses for Political Incorrectness

May 19, 2016 by V the K

New York City — once again raising the question of why the hell would any sane person want to live there — is fixing to levy six-figure fines against businesses that don’t use the politically correct pronoun when addressing gender appropriators.

 A directive issued by the city’s Commission on Human Rights puts merchants and their employees on notice that fines will be levied against businesses that fail to use a customer’s or client’s preferred gender pronoun in transactions.

The Commission can impose civil penalties up to $125,000 for violations, and up to $250,000 for violations that are the result of willful, wanton, or malicious conduct.

Does anyone else remember when the left used to claim that political correctness was just a right-wing myth?

“Political correctness” symbolizes speech codes and censorship. It is largely a myth propagated by the conservative right. The belief in a monolithic and fascist politically correct culture that preys on conservatives and conservative ideology is often accompanied by delusions of persecution, as well as paranoia.

A suggestion in the comments is that New Yorkers can avoid any of these fines by addressing each other as “comrade.” Works for me.

Update: In America’s Hat, they want to send people who aren’t onboard with Transgender Political Correctness to prison for a couple of years. You only get six months in jail in Canada for killing a moose out of season, so they are obviously pretty serious about this. Hurting a gender appropriators feelings = four dead moose. Contemplate that for a moment.

    Shouldn’t it be “sex appropriator”? Gender refers to mannerisms. Sex refers to human bodies.

    Actually, Cray, gender refers to words, not people or animals.

    Sex = male and female

    Gender = masculine and feminine

    Love how that second article doesn’t actually give examples of why political correctness is a myth. “Reports of fascistic policing of speech and thought are a myth. This is true because I have said it is, citizen. Move along.”

    Also: apparently today’s Google page honors Yuri Kochiyama, an outspoken advocate of Marxism, Maoism, the Black Liberation Movement, a member of the Republic of New Africa, a Sunni Muslim, and defender of human animal Mumia Abu-Jamal.

    Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over in the corner doing my Madame Defarge routine…

    I read through the nyc.gov page & couldn’t help but laugh, several times. Basically, it’s unenforceable & it’s a liability to the city itself. Several instances of violations of freedom of speech that have previously, several times, been litigated in front of SCOTUS. The rest, is just nonsense. Except that it’s informative on several terms that I’ve heard, but haven’t bothered to find out what the Libs are talking about. VtheK has used the term cis-gender several times & I’ve sort of blanked out when reading it. Imagine my surprise to find out that it describes me, as a person who isn’t prone to gender confusion, therefore; mental illness.

    Some Democrats running for office this year are campaigning against “mass incarceration.” Actually, it appears now that they want to release murderers, rapists, and muggers from prison, but only to make room for people who forgot to refer to Caitlyn Jenner as “she.”

    It goes beyond failing to remember to refer to Caitlyn Jenner as “she.” You can also run afoul of the law by failing to use people’s preferred pronouns such as “ze” and “hir.”

    What are the grounds for suing Michael Turner? Just curious from a legal POV. I’m wondering if the corporation is trying to “protect” themselves somehow. A girl was nearly murdered in their parking lot, so I imagine there could be lawsuits filed against them. The lawsuit against Turner may be a rudimentary corporate reaction that any large company might have made in their shoes. Obviously, on the surface, the lawsuit looks ridiculous, as Turner should be nothing but praised for his heroism. But, I definitely would like to know more details.
