Nope. Not Hillary Clinton. Melissa Gilbert (from Little House on the Prairie, yeah *that* Melissa Gilbert) who was running for a congressional seat in Michigan dropped out citing “health problems.”
The “health problems” apparently surfaced after her Republican opponent resorted to the dirty trick of pointing out that she was delinquent in her taxes and quoting her actual words.
Republicans dogged Gilbert’s campaign early by highlighting more than $470,000 in back taxes she owes the Internal Revenue Service and the state of California.
In April, Bishop’s campaign dug up video of a 2009 appearance Gilbert made on “The View” talk show in which she called attempts to sentence filmmaker Roman Polanski for the 1977 rape of a 13-year-old girl “excessive.”
“I think the punishment at this point may be excessive — I don’t know, that’s just my opinion,” Gilbert said.
Days after the video surfaced on YouTube, Gilbert disavowed the comments and apologized, saying “I said something I didn’t mean and don’t believe.”
Yeah, the old “I said it, but I didn’t mean it” defense; that only works for Donald Trump, sweetheart.
It’s a pity she feels the need to be a rabid Democrat, used to be a nice girl during the 90’s. People, whose careers stall because of whatever, sometimes take the wrong turn into things that eat them alive.
However; she probably retains a good nature & a late friend of mine had a few conversations with her years ago. She’s positive towards gays. Not sure if she understands that not all gays are Leftists.
That she retracted her Polanski remarks indicates that she jumped into that fray in ignorance. Most of the Libs remain doubled-down on that issue.
why is it that so many of the candidates from the party of taxation don’t pay their taxes?
Easy. Because as Leona Helmsley used to say, “Only the little people pay taxes.”

Taxes are indeed for little people, but they are mainly for little people who don’t have people to take care of that for them. I don’t know the particulars of her case, but most celebs and nouveau riche rely on business managers and accountants and agents to deal with the things that routinely tax [verb] the rest of us. The problem is that even if one has the right kind of the above professionals, they still often depend on their client to provide them with accurate and timely information.
Then there’s the naïveté that comes from being an adult who has had such things routinely taken care of for you most of your life. (“Oh, you mean I needed to report the income from that job myself? I thought the production company did it for me!”). Of course that doesn’t fly in the real world, but it’s the same type of mentality that makes many such celebs register as Democrats without really questioning any of the positions of the party they support.
And in (slightly) related news, Sidney & Lindsay Greenbush, who played “Carrie Ingalls” [the youngest child] on Little House On The Prairie, turned 46 on Tuesday. I remember watching them frolic in the field during the opening title for the show, and I now feel really old.
“you mean I needed to report the income from that job myself”
Aye that’s not what the Ragnar’s guide to the underground economy says.
