Liberal elites are fretting that DC will lose its chic hipster elan when Trump and the Deplorables take over. Pretty much the Kamehameha of #FirstWorldProblems.
Michelle Obama has burned off her date-night meals at Washington’s new generation of acclaimed restaurants by pedaling at SoulCycle. President Obama has shopped for Jonathan Franzen novels with his daughters at local independent bookstores. Obama administration staff members, their barhopping chronicled in the gossip pages, have hit the 14th Street hot spots hard.
Mr. Trump seems unlikely to drop in at Oyamel, the Mexican restaurant and Obama favorite owned by José Andrés, a star chef and devoted Trump critic. For that matter, it is even unclear whether Mr. Trump, who has used his new Trump International Hotel as an outpost here, will spend weekends in the White House or in New York. And he is unlikely to feel a debt of gratitude to a city where Hillary Clinton won 93 percent of the vote.
“D.C. is going to take a really hard hit, culturally, socially, everything. We were really finding our footing; we weren’t second to New York,” said Jazmine Johnson, a graphic designer who said she now planned to move to New York.
The affluence of DC has been financed … Hunger Games Style … by sucking in the wealth of the fifty-states to finance an out-of-touch ruling elite. Washington DC produces nothing but regulation and arrogance; there is no innovative tech industry, no manufacturing, no real art, no wealth of any kind produced in the nation’s capital. (These are the people who spent $2Billion to build a website.) Their trendy expensive lifestyles are financed entirely by what they suck out from the rest of the country. If Trump is able to cut off some of the flow, it might make it harder for a hipster environmental lobbyist to find a chic wine bar in which to sip fair trade Merlot … but it would be much better for the rest of America.
Oh, cry me a frickin’ river!! SMH…

Peter H.
If they are looking for sympathy in the flyover states, there ain’t none.
How about this woman for head of GOP Minority Outreach? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DkZXZnellE
Unlike in The Hunger Games, the states wanting to visit retribution upon D.C. like the Districts wanted to visit on the Capital would be both appropriate and just. Big difference between liberating one’s hard-earned cash from parasites and wanting to force your former oppressors’ kids into death games.
The hipsters & their places live for the moment & that’s what they got, immediate gratification. Years down the road, sooner than they think, when their hips start to go out; they’ll understand the meaning of that which is transitory & that which is stable.
The money is going to drain naturally out of the area & DC’s areas, buildings & monuments will have received their periodic refurbishments. One hopes a bit of Trickle Down Economics helped their permanent residents during the Democrats’ last cycle ever. A little boost, before settling back down into the slum that it is underneath.
Chef Andrés will be a marked man now, much like Pepsi’s CEO. Doomed to shame.
“Liberal elites are fretting …”
For a second, my eyes saw “Liberal effites” (yes, I know the word is spelled “effete”, but my eyes way “effite”)
So.. Trump hires establishment people.. “He is backtracking. His base will hate him. That is not draining the swamp.”
Trump hires non establishment people…”He is filling posts with dolts and know nothings.”
Both criticisms coming from the same people. I guess they still haven’t realized their side lost and they don’t have a place at the table. I almost, kind of, sort of feel badly for them.
7. Don’t worry about TRUMP’s actions until he gets in. He has to survive & not have traitors get pardons. He has to trick them like he tricked the media.
“Big difference between liberating one’s hard-earned cash from parasites and wanting to force your former oppressors’ kids into death games.”
Throughout history the only way to get rid of parasites is to remember nits make lice.

Champions.
We can only hope that Trump will not only “drain its culture”, but utterly shatter DC’s economy – by Yuuuuge cuts to its regulation-, spending- and bureacracy-related jobs.
Note: I don’t think he will. That’s why I said “We can only hope.”
I’m bracing myself for the typical response to any Republican presidency: disappointment and disillusionment brought on by a plethora of unfulfilled campaign promises and missed opportunities.
I still think Trump was the better of the two options, and his election has brought unexpected victories for the opponents of SJWs and their tyranny in sheep’s clothing: the SJWs’ Democrat allies no longer have control over the Executive and Legislature, and will lose their loose grip over the Judiciary by the end of Trump’s term. The SJWs have also lost much of their influence over the States, as well, restricted mostly to their traditional West Coast and New England enclaves, and even those may not be safe, if the lose of Oregon’s Democrat Secretary of State in a deeply blue state is any indication. California may- a big may, mind you- be shifting towards the center. Time will tell if the Rust Belt’s rebellion against the Democrats will be, like so much this year, an apparent anomaly created by a unique confluence of factors, or a permanent shift in the country’s political landscape.
I get the impression that a lot of people think Trump with be the Alma Coin to Obama-Clinton’s Coriolanus Snow.
Oh well.
Truth is, nobody knows what Trump will or will not do. There still won’t be any crystal ball for sale on black friday.
All I know is we managed to “survive” Obama (has the left put it re: Trump) and I wasnt super excited at the prospect of tasting Hillary-ous solutions in the same vein of his.
On my FB, I replied to the “survival” comment:
in Venezuela, Cuba, Eritrea, North Korea, … they *survive*, yes.
Deafening crickets ensued.
(hypothetical)
Know what could be hilarious, though?
If, in 4 years, the economy could be improving so much
–not thanks to Trump but thanks to americans just being less plundered–
that even the leftist media could not really deny it … to see them mad at a re-running Trump “taking credit” for all the delayed-effects of Obama’s 8 years of prior “good work”.
Unlikely it could happen so fast, but that’d be precious.
