‘Fake News’ and ‘Fake Education’

December 11, 2016 by V the K

A student is in trouble for recording a professor’s anti-Trump rant and releasing it on social media.

In the video, you can hear the professor call the election of Donald Trump an “act of terrorism,” and Trump himself a “white supremacist.” She also went after Trump’s cabinet, describing Vice President-elect Mike Pence as “one of the most anti-gay humans in this country.”

The teacher’s union is demanding that the student be expelled for revealing what is taught in this class; which by the way, was not a political science class but a “human sexuality” class. To a reasonable person, the election of Trump would seem to have nothing to do with ‘human sexuality.’ (A sane person might even wonder why such a class is even offered.) But one of the key efforts of the left is to “Politicize all the things!.

This what not a “discussion,” (as apologists characterize it), it was pure hysteria on the part of the instructor. The part I want to take issue with is professor Olga Perez Stable Cox characterization of VP-Elect Mike Pence as “one of the most anti-gay humans in this country.” Really? More anti-gay than the Muslim Imams calling for the murder of homosexuals?

Is Mike Pence even anti-gay? No. The Gay Left case for this smear campaign rests on two flimsy pieces of evidence. One is Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act — which would have harmed zero gay people — and the debunked talking point that Mike Pence wants to electrocute the gay out of teenagers. And the third part of it is, anyone who isn’t a Democrat, and/or who isn’t cheering loudly enough for everything the gay left supports right now … is “anti-gay.”

Her defenders say that as part of the professoriat, she has a right to say whatever she wants in her classes. All right, but if what she is saying is total bullshirt, shouldn’t it be exposed to the full measure of criticism is deserves.

These people are even more deranged and hysterical over Trump than they were over Bush-43. I think that speaks to how far social justice warrior culture has advanced in the last eight years, with its emphasis on microaggressions, triggers, safe spaces, and seeing racism, sexism, and homophobia everywhere (except when looking at muslims).

“more anti-gay than the muslim imans calling for the murder of homosexuals.” no, but the muslims and the communists are political allies so leftist professors…

Within her specialty and her field, absolutely, but neither appointment (to a professorship) nor tenure gives anyone carte blanche to spout non-field related opinions at will/ They like to think it does, but tenure is intended to protect expertise in one’s field. Perhaps this is best explained by the definition of an academic which I read recently; an academic is a person with expertise in one field who expresses an “expert” opinion in all others.

Didn’t know anything about the guy until the left frothed about him. So I researched him and have to say I admire him. He’s not anti gay, he wants gay teens to be aware of HIV. Teens think they’re immune from everything, sounds to me he’s saying also be aware of this. And the religious freedom bill wouldn’t even be needed if others weren’t targeting and suing. It doesn’t say you can’t go someplace and be served, like a store or restaurant, you just can’t target and sue. Those places are few but lgbt search them out, the bill gives them the same protection these people want. With his right to life stance. He’s never said a woman shouldn’t have an abortion, or he want to overturn row vs wade, he’s said he’s right to life and stood on that. His beliefs. I admire that he’s stood strong on his beliefs while not pushing them on others.

Hell, by the SJWs’ standards, our own dear Throbert advocates for sexual conversion therapy because he voices support for frottage!

But seriously guys- if you don’t do it, put your and your man’s swords together the next time you’re alone and go to town. You’ll thank me. 😉

    … they’re still around.

I cannot help but wonder. What were the odds they turn masochists at a 100% conversion rate?

Her name is Stable Cox? LOL!! 🙂

Yet her ranting is typical of liberal academia as well as some of our more irrepressible trolls on this site.

…tenure is intended to protect expertise in one’s field

While I agree in principle, unfortunately this is really hard to enforce & discuss in practice. Simply by saying “gay” & discussing conversion therapy, it opens the door to saying that this speech is somehow relevant in the context of the course (even all the BS around it).

I also have to challenge your definition of academic- I would correct it to be that you have someone with a high level degree in one field who claims to have expertise in it and to be an “expert” in all others. I’ve met far too many academics with a degree in one area who don’t know jack squat about how it applies in the real world. Then again, many of these areas have NO APPLICABILITY to the real world, so that’s to be expected…

(A sane person might even wonder why such a class is even offered.)

Only those sane people who haven’t been exposed to higher education since the Korean War. At the undergraduate level, it’s usually required for those majoring in psychology, social work, sociology, and anthropology. It’s also, in many instances, considered an ‘easy’ class for those in other majors who have to fill out their schedule or have otherwise demanding classes.

As long as you have the right instructor teaching it, it can be part of a well-rounded liberal arts education (and even a supplement for those engineering and science types who think they already know where the parts go and don’t need to learn anything else). The instructor of this class at this particular institution should be teaching something else, preferably somewhere else.

so the teacher’s union think that what is taught in a college classroom is protected by privacy laws? how very totalitarian of them. so much for that FREE and OPEN exchange of ideas.

“Hostile Education Environment” where there’s no tolerance of any political perspective or speech other than that approved by the radicalized left education establishment and the radicalized left public unions. These radical political groups (and many individuals within) are the source of much of the ‘Fake’ divide in our nation.

These radicalized political groups survive and flourish because most everyone in education is forced to join these groups to get and retain a job. It’s long past time that this forced participation in radicalization is eliminated.

In many ways, public unions have created a variation of liberalism as a religion along with ‘liberal law’ that everyone must follow. It’s somewhat analogous to Islam and Sharia Law, only with liberalism as the religion and law, plus they’re just making it up as they go — because they can…
