#CalExit Looks for Help from Vladimir Putin

The CalGone (Take It Away!) movement has opened an embassy in Moscow to help promote their idea of California’s secession.

California gained an embassy in Russia last weekend, at least in the eyes of those who have promised to seek a statewide vote on secession, nicknamed “Calexit,” in 2018. Louis Marinelli, a San Diego resident who is the leader of the group promoting an effort to turn the state into an independent country , organized the Moscow event that was publicized on social media. “We want to start laying the groundwork for a dialogue about an independent California joining the United Nations now,” he said in an email Monday.

  1. Aha! So now we know the real reason Russia hacked the election and helped Trump win! Clearly it was a dastardly plot to establish diplomatic ties with this up-and-coming nation-state that from day 1 has no equal when it comes to tolerance, understanding, and economics – smh

It sadly doesn’t surprise me, but it’s really hard to accept the blatant hypocrisy and selective memory of these people. In Sochi it was all about how Russia hated gay people so the US sent every LGBTXYZ Olympic athlete we could find as part of the delegation to show them a thing or two (and show the we did! /sarcasm) This year it was all about how Russia hated the US and wanted to have a puppet in the White House. Now the crazy leftists are establishing an “embassy” so they can get in good with the guy behind all of their supposed international woes. If they wanted a UN Security Council permanent member (one reason to lobby them in particular), why not go to France or China? Surely they’d be more welcome by the socialists and communists.

…Unless of course they’ve convinced themselves that this is the best way to stop Trump’s foreign policy goals of establishing at least civil discourse with Russia, and this is just another example of “going high”.

Either way – I agree with the OP. Let them go.

  3. My first thought about CalExit was that Hillary could go there and get elected their first Presidente. That’s where she won the popular vote, anyway.

But, if they want diplomatic relations with Russia, they will have to elect someone else. Maybe Michael Moore. After all, Hillary insulted Putin in 2011, and now he hates her so much that he sabotaged the 2016 election and put Trump in office.

  5. Venezuela: Amid Recession, Parents Tell Kids “Santa Isn’t Coming”

“[…] Eight-year old Helen Ramirez, who lives in Caracas’ sprawling Petare slum, asked Santa for food for her family and pink roller skates from the Disney show “I’m Luna.”

But those skates are far out of reach for Ramirez’s family at about 400,000 bolivars, roughly $100 at the black market rate and about 14 times the monthly minimum wage.

“This year we didn’t decorate the house or anything,” said Ramirez’s grandmother, Nelys Benavides, during a charity-organised present giveaway in Petare. “We have nothing.”

President Nicolas Maduro’s leftist government accuses businessmen and rival politicians of seeking to stoke anger and ruin Christmas […]

His government confiscated 3.8 million toys from importer Kreisel, accusing the company of hoarding and price gouging.

Two Kreisel executives have been jailed, and Socialist Party committees have been distributing the toys to children.

“That’s what you call a reinforcement for Father Christmas, right?” Maduro laughed, stroking his mustache during a recent speech on state TV. “Saint Nicolas without a beard; Saint Nicolas with a mustache!” […]”

  6. I really want our resident trolls to come out and explain why California is sidling up alongside a country whose vodka they wanted boycott two years ago. Have things gotten better for gay people in Russia in the intervening years? Or are Californians who only care about gays when it’s politically convenient?

  8. I don’t know if the majority of the people of California want to secede but i’m pretty sure the majority of the rest of the country does.

  9. @salg: I’m totally for it, so I won’t have, at last, any excuses left for sticking around morons on their glorious way to taxing themselves into oblivion.

  10. Someone want to alert the northern counties of California as well as the southern and western counties of Oregon that now would be a good time for them to start pushing for Jefferson?

  11. If California does manage to secede, a few million wealthy and upper middle class people will find themselves locked in with tens of millions of actual poor people.

    They will be eaten alive

  12. @11: I concur, indeed.

We’d see actual businesses leaving first, while the bureaucratic bubble inflates like never before, and the aware people voting themselves out on feet.

  13. Or are Californians [sic] who only care about gays when it’s politically convenient?

    Pretty much, yeah…
