Challenge to the “NonViolent Mainstream Left”

February 8, 2017 by V the K

After reading the article linked in the previous post wherein lefty students at the UC-Berkeley defended the use of violence (assault and battery, arson, vandalism) to prevent a conservative from expressing an opinion on campus. The left seems to be trying to say, “Normally, Violence is not OK, but for someone as heinous as Milo Yiannopoulos… violence is good and he should be grateful it wasn’t inflicted on him personally.”

The left seems to be taking the position that “Hate Speech” (i.e. “Words that hurt, or might hurt, somebody’s feelers.”) is so bad that it should be prevented By Any Means Necessary(TM). But they seem to be leaving open a window for speech provided it isn’t being said by someone as vile as Milo Yiannopoulos.

So, I would challenge the College Democrats or any other left-wing group at UC-Berkeley, or NYU, or Mizzou or any other Asylum of Higher Education to demonstrate their commitment to civil discourse by inviting a conservative to speak on campus. And I mean a real conservative, not a Republican squish like Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, or John Kasich. At minimum, a Marco Rubio or a Tim Scott. Let them come and speak.

I doubt they would ever do it because they know the same protests would happen because the left is not interested in a discussion, they are interested in power.

Can you imagine having Marco Rubio or Tim Scott at UC Berkeley? These Communists would throw biscuits at Rubio and Oreo Cookies at Scott. They are not authentic conservatives because they have the wrong skin color to these totalitarians.

Unfortunately many of the ‘silent’ left approve of this violence even if they don’t say it out loud. If the ones who disapprove speak up, their silence gives consent to it. When the abortion clinics were blown up, the right was explicitly linked even when they immediately condemned the actions. The left must be held to the same standard.

Let’s make a deal with the Left: We’ll allow people to combat speech with violence in certain cases. But we get to decide when.

I never heard of Milo before the violent left and attention and praise of MSN made him a household name. Never heard the name at all, so I guess he owes them that.

Kept reading and hearing violence protesting this guy. I thought omg who is this guy! Is he preaching sharia law or hitler?

Image my surprise that he’s a libertarian, immigrant, gay, black partner, and an entainer. Isn’t he a democrat wet dream? I do have have to thank them for bringing him attention, he’s extremely funny,. I wouldn’t have known about him if it wasn’t for them

Yeah, funny how that works, isn’t it? But to his opponents, he’s the great-great-great grandlovechild between Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Therefore he must be called out and stopped at every opportunity.

Once upon a time, even neo-Nazis were allowed to parade in predominantly Jewish Skokie, IL. Today, that wouldn’t even be possible, with or without a court order, as the event would be firebombed by the left under the guise of “stopping hate”. But we should have seen this coming; the fellow travelers of those fomenting violence against Milo and the likes of Gavin McInnes were those who thought that mounting a protest against every appearance of the Westboro Baptist Church was a symbol of virtue—until the latter realized they could pull a lot of strings simply by announcing a planned appearance and never bothering to show up. It became a win-win situation: plenty of publicity with no cost. Once again I expect the greatly offended to not realize their contribution to the publicity effort until it’s too late.

v the k the left are totalitarians. they don’t allow opposing opinions. and the left was never non-violent. the idea that it is conservatives that are violent is another myth created out of whole cloth by the democrat party-media complex.

I don’t care who his ancestors were, obviously not mine , and neither dose he.Mine legally came here 100 years after slavery, 100 years. But they want me to pay something? Are we vampires or Sci fi and Inhuman and live forever? Really? My Irish ancestors lived in atrocious conditions, my Italian ancestors built the Erie Canal. Neither owned slaves.
When will Americans come together, as Americans, and as one for our country. Moving forward future.

A new study was published a few days ago about extreme protests. I’ve only read the abstract so far, but the authors looked at three forms of extreme protest: Black Lives Matter; Anti-Trump; and animal rights. The conclusion they draw is that the protests increase awareness for the cause but reduce public support for the underlying cause.

To the extent the public link these anti-Trump extreme protests to Democrats, the more it should alienate average voters.

Disagree. Doing what you suggest what allowed liberals to decide when and where and who could be invited to campus.

They would say ” look, we’re not fascist, we allowed that one guy on campus that one time. We are just not going to allow this other guy.”

Conservatives should be allowed to invite any person on to any public college campus at any time.

A couple weeks ago, the Washington Blade ran an opinion piece by a self-identified left-winger who agreed with Trump’s restrictions on Muslim immigration (on the grounds that Islam itself is for the most part reactionary, fundamentalist, misogynist, homophobic, and in other ways anti-progressive).

Predictably, the following week’s issue had three or four opinion pieces denouncing the piece’s “Islamophobia” — some by knee-jerk progressive kuffar, and one by an “LGBTQ Muslim” who talked about intersectionality and assured readers that the word “love” appears many times in the Quran.

I was briefly tempted to write a letter to the editor saying, “Okay, could we maybe get a third opinion from an ex-Muslim humanist/agnostic/atheist? Someone who walked away from Islam by choice, but is still in some senses ‘culturally Muslim’?”

But then I thought, why bother?
