Was Milo Yiannopoulos Worse Than Harvey Milk?

No.  Because what Milo Yiannopoulos talked about, Harvey Milk actually did.

One of Milk’s victims was a 16-year-old runaway from Maryland named Jack Galen McKinley. As previously mentioned, Milk had a soft spot in his, um, heart for teenage runaways. Motivated by an apparent quid pro quo of prurience, Milk plucked McKinley from the street.

Randy Shilts was a San Francisco Chronicle reporter and close friend to Harvey Milk. Though Shilts died of AIDS in 1994, he remains, even today, one of the most beloved journalists in the “LGBT” community.

Shilts was also Harvey Milk’s biographer. In his glowing book The Mayor of Castro Street, he wrote of Milk’s “relationship” with the McKinley boy: ” … Sixteen-year-old McKinley was looking for some kind of father figure. … At 33, Milk was launching a new life, though he could hardly have imagined the unlikely direction toward which his new lover would pull him.”

Harvey Milk was notorious in his day for preying on teenage runaways in the Castro District in the 1970s. The difference is, Harvey Milk, because he was a left-wing Democrat, is forgiven for being a pederast. He has a holiday celebrated in his honor in California. He is an honored martyr, who even had a US Naval Vessel named in his honor.

Which makes me believe that all the left-wingers who are suddenly up-in-arms because Milo may have said something outrageous about his days as a catamite may be somewhat insincere in their outrage.

  1. I remember reading it in Shilts’ biography back when I was a wee lad. They met while Milk was working for Goldwater.

Sadly, McKinley later committed suicide. Very tragic.

  2. Then again, al-Cray-da wouldn’t be excusing Milk for being a pederast.

  3. Mentioning his previous catamite status brings up a good point from all the controversy and Milo’s response yesterday. Considering the tie to his abuse as a teenager (which he’s joked about in other venues, btw), Milo now has the opportunity to advocate for healthily working through these types of issues (including tearing down the trigger warning culture).

He’s got a hard road and needs to be consistent like you mentioned V, but I’m hopeful that one way or another this entire situation will do some good in terms of starting a broader discussion on things like mental health, healthy gay relationships, and other things we like to pretend are already solved or otherwise like to ignore.

  4. Was McKinley the one played by James Franco in the movie? I knew he was young, but I didn’t know he was that young.

Contrary to popular belief, Oscar Wilde was not imprisoned for buggering some noble’s young (adult) son; there was actually quite a lot of sympathy for him in the English upper-class, but that sympathy dried up when it was revealed that he had consorted with male prostitutes, several of whom were decidedly underage.

Same goes for Alan Turing; he started a relationship with a 17-year-old; the 17-year-old was a few months shy of 18, so a bit more contentious, but still.

  5. James Franco played Scott Smith. They met when Smith was in his early 20s in the early 70s/late 60s.

  6. Let’s not forget that in the UK, the age of consent is 16 – so if Milo were advocating a May-September relationship for young gays above the age of consent, is it still considered wrong?

    Just askin’ is all…

Your premise is invalid, al-Cray-da. We are talking about what Milo just said the last 72 hours ago, not what occurred to him personally at the age of 16. It doesn’t matter what the age of consent was in the UK for Milo – right now, he’s talking about younger men (16-17 years old) engaging in an adult relationship with older men.

This is not about kids, or NAMBLA, or anything remotely resembling it.

    Try again.

  12. Well, I’ll just change the link then. Of course, googling Harvey Milk pederast and Harvey Milk boy sex will produce ostensibly the same results.

  13. Peter H: he’s talking about younger men (16-17 years old) engaging in an adult relationship with older men.

MY-low: there are certainly people who are capable of giving consent at a younger age. I certainly consider myself to be one of them … This sort of arbitrary and oppressive idea of consent …You’re misunderstanding what pedophilia means. Pedophilia is not a sexual attraction to somebody 13 years old, who is sexually mature. Pedophilia is attraction to children who have not reached puberty.

I corrected the Age of Consent law in regards to MY-low’s youth as it has informed his worldview. Even when the Age of Consent laws were dropped to 16 for male on male sex before he turned 17, he would have still considered those laws too high (by three years).

NAMBLA: It is very easy to underestimate the sheer scale of the multidimensional rainbow of human diversity — and the strength of teenaged male sexuality.

  16. #15 – Al-Cray-da, you are obviously confused about the context of what I’m talking about versus the actual quote that got you all riled up – which is kind of precious, because you identify with the same people celebrate a transgender male’s right to share a bathroom with little girls, yet they leap at the chance to call Milo a pedophile.

Roman Polanski raped a teenage girl. He’s lionized by the Hollyweird elite and effete.

Lena Dunham brags about molesting her child sister. She gets to be a speaker at the DNC.

If you support something, you are a member of it; therefore, you are part of the thing you support. Ergo, al-Cray-da is a part of NAMBLA. Period.

Now go fix dinner, and hopefully that little houseboy you have to help you around the kitchen will be wearing his favorite thong for you.

    Receipts please.

    Roman Polanski

    Rapist.

    Lena Dunham

Windbag (and put her on a treadmill).

What exactly are you accusing me of supporting? And where is your evidence?

Now go fix dinner, and hopefully that little houseboy you have to help you around the kitchen will be wearing his favorite thong for you.

I only have eyes for you, Muscle Man. I like my men around my age. And I hate thongs.

Al-Cray-da, you are obviously confused about the context of what I’m talking about versus the actual quote that got you all riled up

McKinley wasn’t portrayed in the movie (presumably their relationship predated most of the events in the film); I was thinking he was, but I was confusing him with the Jack Luna character.

I think there’s a Harvey Milk public school in NYC. I don’t know if taking 13-yos to Walgreens to buy condoms is part of their curriculum. Ann Coulter has been noting school projects wherein Kondoms 4 Kids is Important School Work.

  24. The difference is Milo was talking about 13-year-olds. Thirteen is pretty young. There are some late bloomers who don’t even start puberty until that age.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old is more mature and responsible. Sixteen year olds can drive, for instance. They are also old enough to be tried as adults for murder, rape, and robbery. That’s a lot more responsibility to bear than that of a thirteen-year old.
