USDA Threatens to Shut Down Farm for Opposing Gay Marriage

Under an Obama Era Rule,  Federal Inspectors can shut down an operation for wrongthink.

In 2015, following the Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges that purported to redefine marriage for the entire country, various employees shared articles and information related to the decision. Don participated by sharing an article that expressed the traditional Christian view that God designed marriage as a union between a man and a woman and set forth reasons for that position.

When a USDA public health veterinarian, the on-site inspector, saw the article in the breakroom, well, he had a cow. He removed the article and reported it to his USDA supervisor. The pair stampeded into Don’s office and threatened to remove USDA inspectors—effectively shutting down the facility—if Don returned the article to the breakroom, stating the article was offensive and harassing under expanded agency rules.

This ban on Don’s speech appears to have been grounded on the USDA’s “Anti-Harassment Policy Statement” issued in July 2015, which prohibits written or oral communications that USDA officials consider “disrespectful” or “insult[ing]” on the basis of sexual orientation.

This is part of the reason the left has gone nanners. For eight years under Obama, they had unfettered ability to punish people for not agreeing with their progressive, politically correct ideology using every agency of Government. They got used to being bullies. They got to like being bullies. They thought they would get to bully their opponents forever once Hillary cemented the Progressive Authoritarian Government Obama had begun. One more left-wing Justice on the Supreme Court and it was all theirs.

But now, there’s a slim chance that the people they straight-up bullied for eight years might just have their rights restored.

BTW: The five leftists on the Supreme Court have just decided that a jury’s verdict can be nullified if one of the jurors is politically incorrect. So, I guess this means, if a white guy is convicted of rape, but his defense attorneys can prove that one of the jurors was a man-hating, racist black lesbian… they can overturn that verdict. Right?

  1. The USDA has a very important mission in keeping the consumer safe from tainted meat. I’m talking bacteria, not ideology. If I were talking ideology, I would insist that the USDA shut down all of the disgusting Halal blood baths in low rent store fronts in Queens.

    The USDA shut down a turkey processing plant in a nearby county for cruelty. I am used to seeing trucks loaded with cages stuffed full of live turkeys speeding down the interstate with feathers flying everywhere. They are on their way to slaughter. At the slaughter house, the turkeys hang by their tied feet from and overhead conveyer which moves each bird past a head chopper. The USDA said that the next bird to be chopped had to be spared the sight of the neighbor losing its head. So, they installed a plastic curtain which shielded the next victim from the view. And now that curtain has to be sanitized so that it does not spread bacteria.

    Sorry for the bloody details here, but c’mon. Its a slaughter house. My 4’10” grandmother would grab a chicken by its neck and snap it in one stunning karate move. We loved chicken. We knew exactly where it came from and how it got on our plates.

    I never thought for a minute that these critters had any ideological sensibilities about gay marriage.

    And we’re cited and fined.

    Alliance Defending Freedom stepped in

    From the article
    My employer, Alliance Defending Freedom, sent a letter to President Trump asking him to direct the USDA to rescind its unlawful harassment policy and lift the unconstitutional restriction on Don’s speech—

    in other words, to take the policy out back and swiftly and humanely kill it.

    The letter also asks the president to follow through with his promise to make religious freedom a top administration priority by signing an executive order directing federal agencies to respect the free exercise of religion, thereby providing necessary protections for small business owners. . .

  3. Another example of “your speech can be free, as long as you agree with me.”

  4. Plainly, the Supreme Court ruling with gays and marriage was an excuse to wage war on everyone. While, the court is unlikely to change the current ruling. Justices rarely make one ruling, and then later make another that alters completely the earlier ruling. However, gay marriage ought to have had some measure of being thankful, and not the ammo for the left’s war.

    Nevertheless, the left did. This is but another display for it, and the left has no one to blame – But itself for the reaction. And part of Trump’s winning was indeed how the left has used gay marriage as tool.

  5. USDA mission creep. While there are plenty of gov’t agencies that enforce correct thinking (EEOC and the rest of the alphabet soup, federal, state, county, city), I didn’t know USDA’s mission included policing thoughtcrime. But I’m not surprised.

  6. They’re bureaucrats. No govt agency can restrict expression by individuals who are not company administrators. So, either the company didn’t effectively fight back legally or complete info on the matter wasn’t forthcoming in order to further the Christian [activist] agenda in the matter.

    I’ve previously migrated to the Libertarian position on the matter where govt shouldn’t be in the business of marriage. Because it is, we have complications. On the surface it appears to me SCOTUS was trying to apply equity to the matter as a whole with Obergefell v. Hodges since govt is in the business of marriage. So there won’t be any changes to the matter under Trump & people that run companies will have to F man up & fight their own battles without grandstanding to prove a point for their agendas.

    This reminds me of the current situation with Muhammed Ali Jr, who keeps being provocative in his comings & goings from the country. Wearing outfits, speaking differently so the TSA ignoramuses will flag him & detain him – so he the then can have something to b!tch about.

  9. The most interesting part of this story is that there is a veterinarian who was offended by the posting of the article. Most veterinarians are pretty conservative types, outside of the urban ones who deal mostly in dogs & cats. Even the ones that identify as Democrats are generally conservative.

    This is yet another reason to support a 20 percent reduction in the Federal workforce. I think President Trump can do it. It will do wonders!

  13. We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion:

    the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases,

    while the citizens may act only by permission;

    which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history;

    the stage of rule by brute force.

  14. With regard to the BTW, I would vehemently disagree with the Supreme Court.

    Here’s why:

    Jurors have to pass through a process called Voir Dire, where both the prosecuting attorney and the defense attorney can ask them questions to determine whether they want that particular candidate on the jury. While they can only have so many rejections without cause, they can have as many as they want with cause. What this means is the defense attorney failed to discover the bias of this juror. Which means all one has to do to win a case is make sure someone with bias against your client gets on the jury.

    More to the point, this was, presumably, a jury of 12 (Colorado law may require fewer) ALL of whom voted to convict, yet because one MAY have convicted because of bias the jury is nullified?

    And lastly, who interviewed these jurors and got them to sign affidavits testifying to what is supposed to be SEALED DELIBERATIONS??
