The (Democrat-Media Complex Organ) Atlantic wants to know: Why So Many Americans Are Saying Goodbye to Cities.
And I answer: What political party runs all of America’s large cities?
This did not occur to them as a reason.
They mention the high cost of living and the lack of affordable housing, but it never occurs to them to go to the root cause of these conditions. Moving out is largely a middle class phenomenon because cities provide generous welfare to the poor and opportunities to the wealthy and connected, but nothing to the middle class.
Urban Democrats get their money from the rich and their votes from the poor. The concerns of the Middle Class are irrelevant to them.
The constant stories about how great city life is, how Detroit/Buffalo/Cleveland/Milwaukee is perpetually on the verge of a comeback as “young professionals” move in and “pulse with energy and vitality” are pretty much written by young urban journalists and older urban editors who know that sucking up to the urban elite and reaffirming their prejudices is what keeps revenue flowing in.
