Sometimes it’s fun to watch, part II

May 4, 2017 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

The unimportant Stephen Colbert makes a fact-free slam about President Trump fellating Vladimir Putin. Nothing worth mentioning, there.

He imagines that he’s being relevant or edgy or manly. Still nothing worth mentioning.

People ask what would happen if any comedian made such a slam on President Obama (who, in a most embarrassing moment in 2012, promised the Russians to be nicer than he was letting on with American voters). Example #1,234,511,998 to point out the Left’s double standards. True, but still not much to mention.

Then #FireColbert becomes a thing as people start noticing that Colbert’s slur was essentially, um, homophobic.

Taking double standards to a new low, left-wing celebrities defend Colbert’s slur. (Among them, the execrable George Takei.)

Predictably, Colbert claims the devil made him do it (Trump).

What happens next?

If it weren’t for double standards, Leftists would have no standards at all.

What happens next is the usual. The left accepts this leftists non-apology, which they would never have accepted even if it were genuine from any Republican or conservative, and things go back to normal.

And this is exactly why the R’s have such a strong position in government. Now, if they would only use that strength.

There are things one says in the private company of friends one would never utter in public. Apparently, Colbert is too witless to understand this.

And as this gets accepted as it’s by one of “their” people against their current imagining of the devil incarnate, they wonder why discourse in the political realm, indeed the public realm, has gotten so foul.

Contain the gay barfight between the 2%er progressives/libertarians aka communists/national socialists of the 20th century to the bar. 2%ers within the homosexual/bisexual/GID community had better find a way to address the criminal and violently borderline confrontational behavior of those amongst themselves hostile to the COTUS, the Bill of Rights and the rule of law or face the wrath of the majority should the sociopaths/psychopaths amongst you attempt to incite civil war with the majority.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was tanking in the ratings after assuming the throne left by the (now) Old Man With A Beard. There were whispers of ending his contract prematurely and replacing him and/or the show with someone/something/anything else. Then happened November 8th, 2016. After plenty of I-Feel-Your-Pain monologue in the ensuing days, Hillary fanatics and Never Ever Trumpers suddenly heard James Taylor echoing in their brains in the refrain of “You’ve Got A Friend”.

Voilá, the one time correspondent for The Daily Show became The Official Late Night Home Of The Resistance™. Ratings have risen like a SpaceX rocket and the once-moribund program is the leader in its time slot and beyond, beating out two established Jimmys and a Seth. All due to the host’s willingness to relentlessly skewer the POTUS no one dare dreamed of, even if it means some collateral damage here and there to otherwise protected classes.

What is depressing and should be of concern to anyone who follows culture and/or claims to be interested in the dignity of particular groups of people is that many who agree with his sentiments, including LGTBQXYZ types, don’t see a slur at all. Add to that the perpetrator vows that he’d “do it again”, while pandering to the “anyone is free to love whomever they choose and we should support that” bovine excrement sentiment.

What happens next? If those who are appalled at the slur are lucky, CBS corporate media relations will put out a lukewarm statement about how some comments may not reflect the attitudes of management but that the program is not intended to be ‘family viewing’ and your kids and grandma shouldn’t have been up that late anyhow. Management a few layers beneath CEO Les Moonves will quietly send out the signal to their newest star that all is good and that the ratings are solid. The Hillary empathy and the Psst-We-Know-The-Russians-Still-Did-It comments will keep coming. As for the Trump supporters and those who weren’t but now are finding themselves more attracted due to the incessant vulgar attacks, well, they can p!ss off, since they aren’t watching the show and giving it the bigly ratings in the first place.

Any one else notice that as soon as the cannon fodder started getting their butts kicked…the “media/democrats” ramped up the verbal attacks?

Anyone else notice that as soon as the cannon fodder started getting their butts kicked…Obama and Clinton oozed out of their holes and started shitting out of their mouths again?

Anyone care to speculate on what comes next?

FWIW, I doubt if Colbert’s quip was intended as gay-bashing. The point of the joke was that Trump is Putin’s b*tch. Colbert could have made the same assertion by saying, “Trump dances when Putin pulls the strings,” or something similar. But late night TV hosts have to be edgy. For them, and their yuppie audience, every joke has to be sexually explicit, and as vulgar as possible. They perceive the vulgarity as sophistication, when actually it’s adolescent.

Colbert and Jon Stewart often sound like they’re in a high school locker room. But then, most limousine liberals, especially those in show business, are emotionally about fifteen years old.

Agree, but… that’s using our standards, the standards of reasonable people. Not the Left’s.

I remember from my days (long ago!) as a left-wing, GLAAD-activist type that any time you use a gay sex reference as a put down, you’re intending a slur on gay people and some kind of education/penance/denunciation campaign should happen.

Like Juan said, “If it weren’t for double standards, Leftists would have no standards at all.” By THEIR standards (cough), Colbert was homophobic. Like I said in the post: It’s fun to watch.

He’s got the right to say whatever and the people have the right to change the channel. We have the right to criticize and laugh at the lunacy. But we also know there’s more to this cos it’s part of the group-think. What’s always funny is when group-think knuckleheads fling stinky shits that are supposed to be a no-no if someone other than their group throws it.

But we already know that about them and their moral high-grounded BS which has always been a bad stage act, like little lying spoiled brats whose parents don’t know how to say No.

  15. RSG says

The major issue I have are the double standards. Either it’s unacceptable to say such things for everyone or for no one. (FTR, I also feel the same way about terms like the rap/hip-hop/thug appellation ‘nigga’—don’t tell me it’s okay for you to say it as long as your pants are hanging off your arse and you wear a sideways baseball/trucker cap or are excessively melanin-endowed.)

I doubt if Colbert’s quip was intended as gay-bashing.

I don’t think it was either, and the speaker said as much when he doubled down on his comments. But he doesn’t get to determine that, any more than an edgy comedian gets to say “I’m not anti-Semitic” when cracking a joke about Jews and money—or claiming they meant no racism when making a joke about Black folk and watermelon. I guess he can be given credit for (so far) not saying something like “I have gay friends, and they were okay with it!”

It’s not unlike Clintonista Paul Begalla, who, about a decade ago, was on several of the cable news channels yapping about the horrors of the Bush Administration and regularly tossing around the phrase “butt boy”, as in “John McCain is the Bush Administration’s butt boy for Iraq and Afghanistan.” Now any listener would have to have a certain level of knowledge to even know what he was talking about, and for most people who knew what he was talking about, it wasn’t a synonym for ‘flunky’. So it was odd for him to use the phrase in the first place (for yet another heterosexual man), and offensive in multiple ways, as he intended it to be a slur against whoever he attributed it to, as well as offensive as a gay slur. After more than a year or so of usage, GLAAD or some other organization called him out for it and he stopped using it. But as a tolerant, ‘woke’ progressive, how could he not know that many of the people he considered himself to be allied with found it objectionable?

Same with Stephen Colbert. The joke wouldn’t work unless it was a gay slur, since heterosexual men don’t normally go around fellating each other (or using another guy’s mouth as a penis-warmer). That’s what makes his original action and his non-apology offensive. The fact that he claims to be another tolerant progressive by yapping about “everyone should be able to love who they want to love’, even more so.

Put it this way: Colbert, George Takei, Jimmy Kimmel, Nathan Stang (gay hate crime hoaxer) and the rest are losers. I mean, really. I see their faces and they may as well have a big “L” on their foreheads. They’ve come on hard times politically… and they’re taking it poorly. They’re NOT losers because of the hard times; that happens to all of us. (I mean, I haven’t won an election in decades.) But they’re losers because they’re taking it so poorly. They’re coming apart. No grace, no real strength or intelligence or integrity; small power of endurance.
