And, that Russia investigation…

Obviously, we had news that former FBI Director Mueller will be a special counsel to investigate the Trump-Russia allegations. Provided that his investigation is honest, it will be a good thing. Given that people are so hysterical, let them play detective until they burn themselves out.

Slightly more interesting is this morning’s Reuters article, Trump campaign had at least 18 undisclosed contacts with Russians.

Michael Flynn and other advisers to Donald Trump’s campaign were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and emails during the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race…

Conversations between Flynn and Kislyak accelerated after the Nov. 8 vote as the two discussed establishing a back channel for communication between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that could bypass the U.S. national security bureaucracy, which both sides considered hostile to improved relations… [ed: Really? ya think?]

The people who described the contacts to Reuters said they had seen no evidence of wrongdoing or collusion between the campaign and Russia in the communications reviewed so far…

Members of the Senate and House intelligence committees have gone to the CIA and the National Security Agency to review transcripts and other documents related to contacts between Trump campaign advisers and associates and Russian officials…

Translation: Yes, the Obama administration surveilled the living crap out of its domestic political opponents. When will we get a special counsel for that?

But hey – At least the surveillance will let us know for sure if Trump improperly colluded with Russians. Assuming, again, an honest report from Mueller.

My prediction for the result is that

  1. Trump and his aides didn’t collude
  2. Their not disclosing these 18 contacts was fairly innocent (as in, minor text messages that easy to forget when you’re asked about an area where you did nothing wrong)
  3. all the same, the Left and the Controlled Media are going to start a “Trump Lied!!” thing.

But hey, that’s just a guess and I could be wrong. We shall see.

  1. It’s amazing that this Conspiracy Theory Hillary’s Team of Losers came up with the day after election to excuse their defeat and delegitimize the man who beat her has gotten this far. It shows the power of a corrupt political party combined with a partisan media that are joined at the hip. (Literally, if you’ve seen the chart of prominent Obama Administration officials married or related to members of the news media.)

How stupid do you have to be to buy into this “The Russians hacked Hillary’s emails and made her lose the election?” Every part of that sentence except “Hillary lost the election” is a made-up lie. And it doesn’t even explain *how* the Russians caused her to lose the election. No Democrat has even tried to explain that. They don’t have to. Their constituents are idiots.

Is there any imaginable scenario where the Democrat Media Complex would ever *EVER* treat a Republican president fairly?

The likelihood of the DMC honestly covering a Democrat president’s scandals is perhaps greater, but it would have to be huge. Bigger than running guns to Mexican drug cartels; bigger than transferring billions of dollars to terrorists; bigger than sharing classified intelligence with Cuban Communists; bigger than using domestic intelligence agencies to spy on political opponents. (All of which happened under the “remarkably scandal free”) Obama presidency.

  2. A major contributing factor to the Clinton loss was the lapdog media following the DNC/Clinton Campaign directive to give Trump as much air time as possible. Their “plan” was to float Trump to the R nominee and then win the election.

They didn’t account for human behavior. Leftists never do.

  3. “Translation: The Obama administration surveilled the living crap out of its domestic political opponents”

Ummmm…..boy. if that is how conservatives get facts translated it’s no wonder you folks are so missinformed and proven to be so gullible to foreign propaganda.

It’s clear that Trump campaign officials were mucking around with known Russian operatives and got caught up in surveillance of those Russian operatives. It sounds like a few of them got so caught up in it that the FBI got a specific warrant to monitor them.
That’s the way the system is supposed to work.

Here is a life tip for you conservatives: When you call Mikhail Kalugin and talk about coordinating the release of foreign propaganda with campaign events you shouldn’t whine that you are caught.
Better to not do it all.

  5. improperly colluded

Ah, the acrid smell of semantics.

“Collude” ranges from “contact” to “plotting.” “improper colluding” is a judgment call. “Illegal colluding” is what leads to the courts and impeachment.

The DemonizingRats are running around screaming that Russian contacts by anyone associated with Trump is the equivalent of overthrowing the European Union.

The hysterical charges are actually laughable. But, if they stay at it long enough, even their steeple will pick up the chant.

How stupid do you have to be to buy into this “The Russians hacked Hillary’s emails and made her lose the election?”

Stupid is as stupid does. Have an ear for what stirs the masses and keep them stirred up.

  6. Consider, if you will, the Democrats, the Republican JV Democrats, and the Democrat Media Complex all rallying to protect the sacred temple of goodness and purity that is official Washington from the “dangerous” presence of the heretic PDT.

  7. Dangerous to their careers. Dangerous to them staying unindicted.

Heliotrope – Exactly, when my flying fingers said “improperly colluded”, I had it in the back of my mind that arranging a Russian coffee date is sure to be called “collusion”, by some. But the adverb was a style error – a redundancy – because collusion is improper and illegal by definition:

    noun: collusion

secret or illegal cooperation or conspiracy, especially in order to cheat or deceive others.

My drafts are often adverb-heavy, and I think it’s poor style and try to strip some of them out. I’ll leave this one in, since we’ve commented on it.

  8. ILC,

Land developers set up silent partnerships and dummy corporations as a way to secretly amass parcels without starting a bidding frenzy. This “secret agreement” involves “collusion.” Deception is not illegal per se. Collusion is not illegal per se.

However, the dictionary proclaims that collusion is secret (most likely accurate) or “illegal” cooperation or “conspiracy” (which is not illegal per se), “especially” in order to cheat or deceive others. (The cheating is fraud and that is the crime. Collusion is the intent to defraud and that is the icing on the cake.)

Lousy definition. If you collude to throw a surprise birthday party for an unwitting celebrant; don’t bother running it by a lawyer first.

It is usually a huge mistake to use word definitions from the dictionary was legal definitions. Here is the Black’s Law Dictionary definition: deceitful agreement or compact between two or more persons, for the one party to bring an action against the other for some evil purpose, as to defraud a third party of his right; A secret arrangement between two or more persons, whose interests are apparently conflicting, to make use of the forms and proceedings of law in order to defraud a third person, or to obtain that which justice would not give them, by deceiving a court or it officers.

I know that this is not news to you. I did not intend to criticize your style of writing in any way. I just want to make certain that the readers here have been informed that dictionary definitions are not the be all and end all of semantics.

It is a loaded word and generally speaking, it tends toward “conniving.” But just using the word is not evidence of it popular connotation.

The DemonizingRats are masters at casting a negative tone and it serves them well with a constituency which willingly, yea, eagerly, feeds on scandal.

And the Fake News media bait their readers with intentional misapplication of semantics with abandon in promoting their ideology.

  9. Trump campaign officials…got caught up in surveillance of those Russian operatives…That’s the way the system is supposed to work.

Then, mike, you should actively support the idea (as I have done with Trump/Russia) of the DOJ appointing a special counsel to do a deep investigation the Obama administration’s activities and prove that’s all they were up to.

Because that’s what America needs, to resolve this.
