Some scandal updates

Anthony Weiner is to plead guilty “to a single charge of transferring obscene material to a minor, pursuant to a plea agreement…”

This is the same Anthony Weiner who

  • is still married to Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin
  • had thousands of Hillary Clinton’s illegally-handled emails on the same laptop that he used to commit his sex crimes with minors
  • caused former FBI Director Comey to reappear in the news last October, which many Democrats believe (probably wrongly) to be the cause of Hillary’s election loss.

It’s sad how Clintonites deflect the blame to Comey and Russia for all that, rather than putting it where it belongs on Weiner, Abedin and the Clintons themselves.

“A likely result of the plea is that Mr. Weiner would end up as a registered sex offender, although a final determination has yet to be made…”

UPDATE: Huma has finally just filed for divorce.

In other news, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange Rape Investigation Is Dropped in Sweden.

The accusations were always of a “he said, she said” nature, with Assange saying that he had met the alleged victim several times amicably, for consensual sex.

The announcement represents a victory for Mr. Assange, 45, an Australian…

[but] In Britain, he still faces a warrant for failing to appear in court, and the Metropolitan Police in London said on Friday that they would arrest Mr. Assange, who has maintained his innocence, if he were to try to leave the [Ecuadorian] embassy…

[U.S.] Prosecutors have long been exploring the idea of charging Mr. Assange as a conspirator in the underlying offense of illegal theft of documents…

[but] The Obama-era Justice Department, which had gone as far as to present some evidence about WikiLeaks to a grand jury in Alexandria, Va., was deterred from pursuing the case further because it proved difficult to distinguish what WikiLeaks had done in publishing the classified information provided by Ms. Manning from what The New York Times and many other mainstream news organizations do.

Most news organizations that cover national security and foreign affairs regularly publish information from sources that is considered classified by the United States government. By long-established tradition, however, only the government officials who provide such information have been prosecuted, not the journalists who publish it.

IN STILL OTHER NEWS: Evidence has emerged that, while still just a candidate, the President conspired with Iranian mullahs to undermine the foreign policy of the existing administration. Which meets a reasonable definition of treason!

Oh, wait – it was President Obama, while still just a candidate, conspiring with Iranian mullahs to undermine the foreign policy of the Bush administration. And lefties haven’t given the tiniest crap about it.

  1. Another overlooked point:

The same Washington Post that breathlessly reported that Trump may have shared classified information with the Russians…

Reported favorably back in June of last year that Obama offered to share classified information with the Russians.

Oh, but Obama was to help with the effort in Syria, see, and Trump was trying…to help….with the effort…in Syria…

do you have a link handy? (don’t spend time on it)

  3. maybe the Swedish authorities dropped the charges because Assange told the Swedish authorities that he was a muslim and rape was part of his culture. I believe that is an acceptable defense in the Swedish legal system

As Tommy Vietor would say, “Dude, that was like nine years ago!”

  5. Evidence has emerged

Can you please provide link where William G. Miller goes on record that he made these trips to Iran. Thanks.

  6. Well, there is a fundamental, but critical difference between PRESIDENT Obama giving the Russians classified information and Donald Trump doing the same

Donald Trump is NOT the RECOGNIZED president. Besides, Comey could not be reached for his opinion on intent.

What we need most is guidance from JohnGraham and/or LindseyMcCain. or, maybe, Chelsea Clintoon.

  7. So your position is before Obama was elected in ’08 he conspired with the Iranians, waited until the end of his second term then singed an agreement with them????

    That’s just……yeah…pretty hacky Jeff….

  8. @CCP: follow the link in the Powerline article to Ledeen’s piece. Ledeen is on the record making the claim and says he confirmed the conversations with Amb. Miller who is still around and could dispute the story if he needed to.

@7: yup, that’s what it looks like.

  9. Thanks KCRob.

Why wouldn’t have the Trump admin highlighted the Miller/Iran example when Flynn started getting attention and becoming an issue?

It seems pretty elementary to me that if these examples are equal (or equal enough), and the knowledge was out there (and undisputed) that admin (assuming it was doing nothing wrong) would have used its rather loud mouthpiece to say, “the previous administration did it, we did it, there is nothing wrong, nothing to see here,” and used, again, its rather large and substantial mouthpiece to voice that repeatedly for months.

Also, why did Flynn register as a foreign agent post-facto?

  10. One of Trump’s constant themes is “I’m up against the fake media.”

Well, it’s actually pretty easy to combat.

Media: Before Trump got elected, Mike Flynn met with the Russians.
Sean Spicer press conference: Before Obama got elected, William Miller met with Iran.
Kellyanne Conway via CNN: Before Obama got elected, William Miller met with Iran.
Kellyanne Conway via MSNBC: Before Obama got elected, William Miller met with Iran.
Donald Trump on Twitter: In 2008, Miller met with Iran. No different than Flynn with Russia*

*that’s less than 144 characters too

As someone as savvy and image-conscious as a seasoned TV vet like Trump … It’s not rocket science. Instead, he keeps harping on “fake media, fake media.”

It’s not that hard to throw some meat into one’s simple and tired argument.

  11. As usual, mike doesn’t even bother to read the link or understand what he’s responding to.

CCP: I can’t supply that; I’ve simply taken Michael Ledeen’s and PJMedia’s word that their reporting is honest. I did google “William G. Miller denies Iran” and found nothing. If you find a denial, I’d be interested to see it. Miller is still living and I’ve made an assumption that, if he were in a good position to demand a retraction or correction of the story, PJMedia would have accommodated him by now.

  12. Sorry, if it wasn’t implied, I accepted KRob’s answer at #8.

  14. I’ve asked some pretty legitimate questions after I thanked KCRob for his info (I’m still alive and don’t dispute it; therefore, it follows that I accept his answer; see what I did there?).

Would love to see some feedback.

  15. If I remember correctly, Assange’s rape charge stemmed from a night of consensual sex where he told the woman he would be using a condom, but then didn’t.

    That’s rape in Sweden.

  17. Why wouldn’t have the Trump admin highlighted the Miller/Iran example when Flynn started getting attention and becoming an issue?

He probably didn’t know about it. I didn’t.

And that’s my point: the media chooses what to tell us about and what to omit. Its stories are constructed, political products. Even when a story is true (it sometimes isn’t) and told in a forthright, complete way (it almost always isn’t), the fact that we’re hearing about *THAT* story – and not some other – is political. America’s power structure at work.

They didn’t want to nail Obama, they wanted to nail Trump. So they told us as little as possible about any dirty actions of Obama’s (and there were many). I only heard about it 2 days ago, and Trump probably still hasn’t.

As to the broader category of “Trump admin” (covering more people)…I’m hearing more and more that most of them are actually Establishment, #NeverTrumper types of people who don’t have his reputation at heart. Or, who even want to join in the sabotage. That personnel issue, if true, is ultimately on Trump – and is what will do him in.

    Comment by ILoveCapitalism — May 22, 2017 @ 11:41 am - May 22, 2017

  18. He probably didn’t know about it. I didn’t.

Breitbart reported it under Bannon’s reign. His admin knew about it and failed to utilise it. What is he getting paid for?

    the media chooses

Not exactly. The admin has extremely large microphones. They fail to use them effectively. You can only (rightfully) blame the media so much. The admin is failing to cultivate the necessary message and making it easier for the media to manipulate them. Sorry.

the broader category of “Trump admin”

Ironically, two of the three people who are helping to make his foreign travels run smoothly are to the left of everyone else in his posse (Kushner and Powell).

But, circling back, I highly doubt Bannon is establishment, nor capable of enhancing the admin by combating the media with impenetrable data (i.e. Miller in Iran). Instead, it chooses to disrepute itself with botched messages conveyed by Sean Spicer and Kellyanne Conway.
