The meaning of Trump’s presidency

With America’s withdrawal from the Paris climate accord, another piece of the puzzle is in place. I think I’m getting a Big Picture.

For a myriad of reasons – economic, financial, demographic – we have been moving into a multi-polar world. As opposed to a world where the U.S. is the one, super-wealthy super-power.

Like an oncoming glacier, the shift is very slow – but unstoppable. I’ve been contemplating it for years – and sometimes discussing it on the blog, as in my old posts (that I keep meaning to update) on the gradual decline of the U.S. dollar as the world’s central currency.

Trump is ahead of this shift, and left-wingers are behind it.

Despite their anti-American attitudes and railing against “white supremacy”, left-wingers take great comfort in the idea that the U.S. is the world’s one, super-wealthy super-power. In many a discussion, when I’ve tried to warn a liberal friend how policy X must inevitably undermine the U.S. position in the world, he or she smirks – yes, smirks – and says “But we will always be on top, because of reason Y.” (We have the best military, the best universities or tech research, Hollywood / the most seductive culture, control of the Internet or SWIFT payment system, whatever.)

I think their belief is basically infantile.

  • The child needs to fantasize that the parent is super-capable and benevolent and will always be there for her, no matter what.
  • And a malicious / narcissistic child fantasizes about being able to dish out endless tantrums and torture on the parent – without damaging the child’s life in any way.

Likewise, the left-winger needs to fantasize that the U.S. will always be the one, super-wealthy Super Mommy And Daddy – no matter how many rocks, bombs or burdens they (the left-wingers) throw at the U.S.

Which brings us to the Paris climate accord. It doesn’t do much of anything good. Just a couple big, bad things.

  1. Uphold left-wing fetishes – environmental extremism, statism, globalism – thus demonstrating leftie supremacy; and
  2. Drain the U.S. of wealth – in the form of payments for the Green Climate Fund, tens of billions of new aid to India and other countries, even more burdens on industry and U.S. energy, etc.

Withdrawing from the Paris agreement is so upsetting to left-wingers because it reverses both of those. Now, what is Trump’s rationale for withdrawing?

  • He thinks the U.S. is already responsible environmentally, and will continue to be.
  • He thinks we need to think a bit more about ourselves. We need to mine our own coal. We need to bring back manufacturing jobs. We need to NOT pay into the Green Climate Fund, billions of new aid to India, etc.
  • Meanwhile, the agreement lets China, India and even Europe burn coal and increase their CO2 emissions. That makes no sense. The agreement puts the U.S. at a senseless disadvantage.

Trump’s actions are consistent with, and helpful in, a multi-polar world where the U.S. stops being the Supreme Mommy and Daddy and instead, “gets real” about what the U.S. needs in order to be a good place to live for U.S. people.

He said it in January – “America First” – and now he’s carrying it out. That, and restoring the Constitution (at least a little). Because withdrawing from Paris de-fuses a constitutional bomb. (As will ending the Obamacare insurance-buying mandate, when they finally get around to that.)

Leftie reactions are telling: It’s the end of the world, the U.S. has “resigned as leader of the free world”, Germany’s Angela Merkel now leads the free world, etc. It’s exactly the tantrum you would expect them to throw – if they had an infantile attachment to an idea of the U.S. as the one, super-wealthy Super Mommy and Daddy, upon whom they could inflict any torture or burden that they pleased.

Trump is turning out to be the Bad Mouth Man who will end it, at least partly. And that’s good.

  1. So far, the number one bigly thing he has done is proven what most of us on here have known for years : progressives are batsh!t crazy, total unhinged.

Even his “accidental” trolling is epic. Bigly, covfefe both sent progressives into a bigly display of covfefe.

Ace wrote something not long ago on this topic, on the essential parasitic nature of the left. The only reason they are free to indulge their childish social justice hatred of American society is because the society affords them the wealth and freedom to do so.

The trust-fund Antifa kids at Berkeley would have a lot less time to agitate for “Revolution” if they were scratching out a bare subsistence lifestyle on a potato farming collective under a socialist regime.

  3. You are exactly right! That and the Left cannot fathom the fact that for decades they have made political hay running against the “Man”, now they are the”Man” and it hasn’t dawned on them.

  5. An hour or two ago, CNN’s Jim Acosta leveled this at EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt:

“Why, then, is the arctic ice shelf melting? Why are the sea levels rising? Why are the hottest temperatures in the last decade essentially the hottest temperatures we’ve seen on record?”

“When NASA says that 95% of the experts in this area around the world believe that the air is warming, and you are up there throwing out information that says, ‘well, maybe this is being exaggerated and so forth,’ you talk about climate exaggerators, it just seems to a lot of people around the world that you and the president are just denying the reality, and the reality of the situation is that climate change is happening and it is a significant threat to the planet.”

Talk about hyperbole and fake “facts” —

    1. “essentially” the hottest temperature we’ve seen on record? “Essentially” — sorry, Jimbo, but facts are not “essentially” facts. And records have been kept since when? And take takes us how far back in geological time?

2.”…95% of the “experts” around the world “believe” that the air is warming.” “Believe?” We’ll skip what constitutes an “expert” and how you calculated the 95% claim and just ask this: Who the heck bases science on a belief system? I’ll answer that: cultists.

    3. “… you (meaning: Scott Pruitt) are up there throwing out information that says, ‘well, maybe this is being exaggerated and so forth,’ you talk about climate exaggerators, it seems” ….blah, blah, blah …. “are just denying the REALITY, and the REALITY of the situation is that CLIMATE CHANGE IS HAPPENING and it [climate change] is a SIGNIFICANT threat to the PLANET.”

Katy bar the door! Head for the roundhouse, they can’t corner you there! If you don’t look, they can’t see you!!!

We will just have to wait, I suppose, to have a Progressive explain what was being asked in this mini-diatribe.

Meanwhile, please note that Jim Acosta has framed his mindlessness around “climate change is happening.” Yes, Jim, even with your weak mind, you got that part right. The climate has changed consistently throughout geographic time and it will continue to do so. No one I have ever encountered has said otherwise. There are no “climate deniers.”

Jim Acosta represents the paucity of intelligence within journalism and Progressivism today. Jim Acosta uses “climate change” as a little bit of mystique jargon that in his mind can not be understood by most of the unwashed whom he barely abides, if at all.

Acosta never posed a question. That was a highly stupid ideologue assuming that the Administrator of the EPA is too dumb to wipe himself.

How I would adore quizzing Acosta on the facts embedded in the Paris Horsefeathers Climate “Agreement.” He has never read it. But man is he on a high horse batting at the moon and sniffing the wind in search of unicorn farts.

Ditto all the bozos screaming about man-caused climate disaster.

  6. Agree.

Jim Acosta…“Why, then, is the arctic ice shelf melting?

That, right there, shows the illogic of the Left.

Say it’s true. (I think it’s probably exaggerated and/or caused from Nature; but for sake of argument, say it’s 100% true and caused from human CO2 emissions.)

WHY ON EARTH would you then leap to accepting the Paris agreement? It’s horrible – on the stated issue, CO2. It lets China and India keep increasing CO2.

The only thing that Paris accomplishes is a massive wealth transfer out of the United States, to jet-setting global bureaucrats. How is that a logical solution? (It isn’t.)

  7. The 95 percent consensus has been debunked (and even if it were true, polls != facts).

When these people can explain to me how the earth’s climate is like an indoor mall – some ideal temperature that must never vary – they’re just babbling.

The truth is that this is all about virtue signaling and providing justification for bigger government and bigger feet on the necks of the masses.

Some years ago in Tulsa, OK the mayor at the time (liberal Democrat) said that the city needed to do more to heal the racial divide.

I heard her say that while stuck at the umpteenth red light in a row. I though to myself “the city can’t synchronize two traffic signals 400 feet apart but can heal the racial divide?!”. I called BS.

The same nations that can’t (won’t?) enforce their borders and and keep track of terrorists (known to the security services) are going to change the earth’s climate? I call BS.

Developed western nations have made enormous progress reducing pollution and cleaning things up. This will continue whether or not there’s a climate agreement. Handing billions over to China, India, Niger, Brazil, etc., won’t do much more than bloat the Swiss bank accounts of the kleptocrats that run those places.

The biggest threat to the ecosystem is illustrated by Steve Salier’s “most important graph in the world”. The problem with this graph is that a) it’s not PC to think about it, b) solving it won’t involve screwing the people in developed nations, and c) solving it would involve real work and addressing real misery and that’s not near as easy as sniping at Trump and taking the Gulfstream to Davos or wherever to point and laugh at the proles.

  8. For the poor of the world to achieve prosperity they need 2 things, affordable energy and markets to sell to. The Paris Climate Accord would have kept them in grass huts heating the food with animal dung. The skim taken of the top by the administrators of the “climate funds ” would have kept them poor while impoverishing us.China and India would eventually stagnate with out a powerful and wealthy (on a per capita basis) United States. After a while the governance of the whole world would wind up in the hands of a few elites. Thank You Donald Trump for putting the brakes on that. Now can we have that debate about the science of “climate change “?

  9. I can hardly wait until they start the “New Progressive Olympic Games”. Rule one: If you are ahead in the race slow down or take a much longer route than the nations behind you so they may catch up. Rule 2: see rule one and everyone gets a bronze medal at the end of the event(s). Rule 3: if you have gold medals from previous Summer or Winter Games please submit them to the Olympic committee to be melted down because no one is better than any one else. Rules 4 thru however many; subject to the committee’s whims.(In case of global meltdown all games postponed until the next ice age).
