Violence on the Left Is OK If It’s Artistic

June 7, 2017 by V the K

A theatre company in New York City (of course) is staging a re-imagining of Julius Caesar in which President Donald Trump is assassinated by a gang of senators.

This version of Shakespeare’s tragedy features a Caesar who bears a striking resemblance to President Donald Trump, complete with his trademark orange hair, business suit, and long red (or blue) necktie. True to the original play, the rash populist Caesar ends up being assassinated on the Senate floor by a group of conspirators — including his friends Cassius and Brutus — saving the Republic from his dangerous reign.

They didn’t even attempt to be subtle with the imagery, according to one woman who was able to see a sneak preview of the performance. During the murder scene when the Trumpian Ceasar is stabbed to death, “an American flag hovers overhead,” according to the woman, while “blood was spewing everywhere out of his body.”

IIRC, in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, his assassins turned out to be the bad guys. Am I remembering that right?

Anyway, this is supposedly OK but what Kathy Griffin did was wrong but what Snoop Dogg did was OK. Because reasons.

You can advocate the assassination of Donald Trump, just not by beheading. I guess because that would be cultural appropriation, or something.

I’ll concede to you that “it’s just a play, so don’t get your panties in a wad {BTW, I don’t wear panties and nothing I wear is in a wad}” if you can answer for me one simple question: Where in America was a depiction of the assassination of Barack Obama considered socially and artistically acceptable in the period 2008-2017?

I’m just trying to figure out what the rules are for these things. I get that it’s OK to advocate murdering the president if he’s a Republican, but not if he’s a Democrat. But apparently there are some subtleties with regard to the means of assassination that I don’t understand.

ILC: Can we get a category for ‘Violence on the Left?’ in the pull-down menu? Thanks.

    V – done.

Note that we also have “Leftist Nutjobs”, “Unhinged Liberals” and “Hysteria on the Left”. I’m fine with a separate category for left-wing violence. I’m wondering if they should be renamed, to all begin with “left”? (thus appearing next to each other, as you hunt in the list?) Let me know.

As to the matter: Yes, the Senate assassins are the villains. They are patricians, standing against the common people. Mark Antony rouses the people against them with his famous speech beginning “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.” (…and I’ll sing you a song, and I’ll try not to sing out of key 😉 )

I love it that they’re doing this. It’s such a perfect metaphor for the Left. They’re so busy virtue-signalling that
    – They don’t see the joke is on them.
    – They don’t see that they are patricians (America’s out-of-touch elites) standing AGAINST the common people.
    – They don’t see that fantasizing about a Trump assassination exposes the evil of their hearts and will end in their own (political) destruction.

As I remember, there was also more than one depiction of Globalist George W. being assassinated. There was pushback because W. did have his cheerleaders. But there was no apologies &/or tepid remorse about it all. This thing where the US Left wants to violently exterminate the GOP & those on the Right, started with the US Civil War as far as I’m concerned. The Dem slave-owning South wanting to keep its special caste system intact & willing, literally, to do anything to preserve its slave/master ethic.

To shut the Dems up? In my meanderings around the net when confronted by people who advocate violence I just turn it around as an object lesson. E.g., Exclaiming that, should we now start calling the ex president the tar baby president or depict him daily as strange fruit hanging from a tree (a la Lady Sings the Blues) to equalize matters. Then I snark, see how the color thing works, or, did you think no one would hit back. There’s never, never any response to me over this. Not even a comeback that doesn’t make sense.

It’s the American Way. Overwhelming response, overwhelming force. Of course; Dems, Libs, Snowflakes, Leftists & Commies don’t understand America, it’s history, it’s business, it’s stability, it’s consistency. When a child is being obnoxious you isolate them or give them a spank. Using microcosms is a valuable tool when dealing with infants.

On this, I differ from my view of the Vulgarian’s crude stunt.

As long as it’s still clearly a performance of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, the characters retain their Roman names, and the plot remains unchanged; then it’s legitimate political commentary and allegory. Senators John McCain as Brutus, and Lindsay Graham as Casca, and Speaker Ryan as Cassius. Casca strikes the first blow, and Brutus the last. All the while protesting that they are “patriots saving Rome”.

Though I’m at a loss for a good Marc Antony… Jared Kushner is more Octavian.

V – I’ve always hated the term “liberal” (to describe the left). In my posts and comments, most of the time I prefix it as left-liberal. I think Bruce and Dan created most of those “Liberal” categories.

Anyway, I’ll have another think on what categories can be consolidated (but preserving your distinctions). Also, I don’t know why Bruce’s Twitter feed stopped scrolling on the blog’s main page; I’ve been meaning to look into that. Hopefully, by this weekend.

If I recall, a rodeo clown lost his job for wearing an Obama mask during his act.

I don’t care what the artistic-left comes up with (as long as no one’s rights are violated) but I grow nauseous hearing about “feelings” from these lunatics.

BTW: I’ve jettisoned the term “liberal” as, like our gracious hosts, I can no longer see anything “liberal” in what these people are up to.

IMHO, these people are more “cultural revolution” types.

My reading of Julius Ceasar is a bit different. There were no good guys, and no bad guys. All of them were eventually corrupted by power.

“illiberal” seems more appropriate, if one doesn’t want to be even more specific and explicit (with, eg, “communists”, or “neo marxists”) —

And they wonder why a growing number of parents talk about considering to homeschool their little ones:

Hey! What do you mean by “new York (of course)”? I live in NYC ! (Oh…never mind. LOL. I know what you mean. I have to deal with it too often. But the biggest meatheads in NYC are the out-of-towners who moved here. The natives have more sense. Sometimes I wonder if it’s the same in other cities).

It is, and not even in cities. Everyone who hates where they live leaves to move somewhere else—and then wants to make the new place just like the old place they left.

MIKE CERNOVICH: That is why every national reporter in the world went to Montana. Who cares about some race in Montana, right? But they’re all there trying to set people up, putting recorders in your face, getting in your face, badgering you —

ALEX JONES (HOST): I was about to say that’s what they did to Trump and [Corey] Lewandowski. He comes in the room, screams at him, puts a camera in his face. He tries to grab the phone, the guy grabs his arm, he throws him to the ground. That guy touched him. That guy assaulted him. You grab somebody’s wrist you are trying to take control of them.

CERNOVICH: Exactly — that’s what they do. They’re setting everybody up now. And it was a total set up to try to swing a race for the Democrats because they lost all four special elections so what they do now is they send people and they go, “Hey, hey, man, hey.” And they shove it in your face and sometimes, as you know, it hits you. They have bad breath. They’ll breath in your face and there is spittle coming out of their mouth. These media people, a lot of them are just really bad, poor hygiene, they don’t take care of themselves.

JONES: These are the lowest scum of the earth that know they’re liars. They’re not even paid until they get a big story, so they’re mercenaries, they’re bounty hunters.

CERNOVICH: Right, and Ben Jacobs was actually a former Democrat operative. And by the way, none of these people — as you know if you wear a Trump hat in public, somebody might try to murder you. The media never cared about that kind of violence. But suddenly one of them is maybe pushed to the ground a little bit in self-defense and now it’s the number one story in the world and of course Paul Ryan is saying that he must apologize —

JONES: Oh yeah, this Republican when some guy grabs his arm throwing him to the ground in his own office, he’s worse than the Manchester 22 dead kids, 50 plus injured, and it doesn’t matter that we’ve got Ariana Grande saying, quote, she hopes her fans f-ing die.

Only in the batmerdecrazy 2%er world of progressives/libertarians can the most violently borderline confrontational/passive-aggressive of those amongst them are free to make threats to physical harm and death threats without repercussion. Such is the fraud perpetrated by the 2%er marxists within the APAs/ABA attempting to attribute/socialize the sociopathic behavior of less than 2% of the population to the majority normal heterosexual population with the revision of the ALIMPC in 1955 based on the fraudulent research of Alfred Kinsey.
