When Facts Don’t Fit ‘The Narrative’

Black, Mohammedan, immigrant cop shoots a white woman in Minneapolis. Washington Post covers the story while never once mentioning the cop is black, Mohammedan, or immigrant. (Not to mention, not much outrage over this police shooting. I guess not all lives matter.)

They do, however, make a pitch for Australian-style gun confiscation.

Same deal at Vox. 2000 word story, no discussion of the cop’s race, religion, or background. But again, another pitch for outlawing the private ownership of firearms.

This is a result of cultural and policy decisions made by the US that have made firearms far more available in America than most of the world. For American police officers, this means they not only will encounter more guns, but they expect to encounter more guns, making them more likely to anticipate and perceive a threat and use deadly force as a result.

Cops shooting people justifies disarming law-abiding civilian gun-owners. Ah, leftist logic.

  1. The woman wasn’t even armed, was she?

They made a point of that with Trevon Martin and Michael Brown, and didn’t go on a gun confiscation tirade then.

And this is why we call this “fake news”. They slant it with their opinion.

  2. And so far, not a peep from our Muslim-loving, jihad-excusing liberal poster. Wonder why is that?

  3. A coward without a gun is a jackrabbit. A coward with a gun is a rattlesnake. We don’t have a racist cop problem, we have a cowardly cop problem.

  4. I’ve gotten into cabs & immediately determined that the driver was Somali. Each time I immediately get back out. They’re idiots, every single one of them & it’s not worth it. I also make a point in complaining later to the cab company & writing a Yelp & Google review. They’re friendly enough, but moronic & reckless.

  5. I’ve had rare exceptions to your rule in Columbus Hanover. But I am forced to agree. I had one friend who the Medicaid driver threw a fit because she had a service poodle. I figure it’s a good thing she has her own transport now as if the Somali driver freaked over a 25 lb miniature poodle, he’d have a cow when her current service dog, a 70+ lb black Great Dane/Poodle cross got in his car. Thing is like a Wookie.

  7. No doubt a SJW “diversity” hire to demonstrate to the prominent and restive Somali refugee-population in the Twin Cities they are “Included”. The Mayor and the local “press” are trumpeting he’s the first Somali on the Force…

  8. “They” can have any alleged firearms of mine when they take them out of my cold, dead hands. I’ll end up like Saddam Hussein with his WMD–didn’t have anything much left so far as we know, but acted until the end as if he did, and that was one reason he was put to death.

  9. you can add the associated press to the list of media outlets that spun the story to a plea for Australian style gun control. is it just a coincidence that all these media outlets have the same spin to their stories or do you think they collude?

    Comment by salg — July 19, 2017 @ 6:07 pm - July 19, 2017

  10. It’s collusion. The AP puts out the “facts” over the wire and then the various news agencies dole out the “facts” to the writers and they put their own spin on it. Hence, the multiple cries for Australian gun laws.

  11. Usually, after a police-involved shooting, the MSM rush to judgment, condemning the cop, claiming that this incident is just a typical example of how all cops are trigger-happy racists, and portraying the decedent as a saintly martyr. And if you want to wait for all the facts before drawing a conclusion, you are a racist. (With a mass murder committed by someone yelling “Allah Akbar” and pledging allegiance to ISIS, though, it’s the exact opposite: the MSM insist that the motive is not clear, and they caution against jumping to conclusions.)

Judging by reaction to this tragedy, it appears that liberal dhimmitude has reached a point where it trumps liberal hatred of cops.

I am usually pro-cop, and I realize that 90% of accusations against police are false. And, after a police shooting, I want to know all of the facts before forming an opinion. (Which, of course, makes me a racist.)

And I realize that sometimes shooting an unarmed person can be justified (if, for example, your attacker is bigger and stronger than you are).

Also, police have to deal with people who are drunk, on drugs, hysterical, psychotic, or just plain stupid. Sometimes, those people make furtive movements (like reaching in a pocket after being told not to move), forcing the officers to make a life-or-death decision in a split second. Which can cause even good cops to make tragic mistakes.

None of which seems to apply to the shooting of Justine Damond. This case stinks to high heaven.

From the audio transcript (mnpoliceclips.com), it appears the “shots fired” report came in three seconds after the 911 operator dispatched the cops. That they could have received the call, arrived at the scene, assessed the situation, and then shot Ms. Damond, all in three seconds, is beyond belief. The only explanation I can see is that the recording was heavily edited, i.e., censored.

If the cop were white, and if the victim were black, this incident would be getting wall-to-wall coverage on the Cuck News Network and MSDNC. And peaceful protesters would be burning Minneapolis to the ground by now.

  12. BTW, Vox played the same song in late 2015, commenting on the Michael Brown shooting. That is, American cops shoot first and ask questions later because American civilians are armed. Whenever cops respond to a 911 call, they expect a shoot-out, and they act accordingly. So, obviously (according to Leftist Logic 101), the solution is to outlaw the private possession of weapons, so police won’t have to be afraid of honest, sane, peaceable citizens who own firearms.

Of course, that won’t solve the real problem (violent criminals who illegally obtain and use weapons), but what do you expect from Vox (or WaPo, or AP)?

Vox is also now repeating the (somewhat contradictory) meme that all cops are trigger-happy racists and that African-Americans are disproportionately more likely to be shot by police. Never mind the Harvard study that found that blacks are 24% less likely than whites to be shot by cops. (And the elephant in the room that leftists ignore: blacks commit a disproportionate percentage of violent crime, they are more likely to resist arrest, and they commit a disproportionate percentage of assaults on cops.)

Incidentally, Michael Brown was NOT shot because the cop thought he had a gun. A bloody hand print on his pants did indicate that he reached toward his waistband as if drawing a weapon, but the cop did not cite that as his sole reason for shooting (although, legally, it might have been sufficient justification).

The cop was injured, unable to fight back hand-to-hand. And Brown outweighed him by 70-80 pounds. That disparity justified the shooting whether Brown had a gun or not.

Re: the Damond shooting, I dislike rushing to judgment, but it appears Noor was, at best, a hothead who panicked and shot an innocent person by mistake. And that is the most charitable likely explanation. It’s also possible that he was offended by the sight of a woman outdoors in pajamas, and decided to enforce sharia law on the spot.

It also appears that the Minneapolis Police Department has lowered its standards to fill a quota.

The solution to panicky, trigger-happy cops shooting innocent people is not to disarm innocent people. It is for police departments to carefully screen and test job applicants, and to adequately train the ones who get hired.

But then, adequate vetting and testing might have weeded out the MPD’s token Muslim immigrant poster boy.

Public safety takes a back seat to diversity, and Justine Damond was sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.

  13. another thing the democrat party-media complex is not reporting is that this police officer supposedly had several disciplinary actions against him.

  14. And still not a peep from our resident Muslim apologist. You would think that since the victim was a fellow Aussie, he’d be quick to denounce the cop.

    Whatever.
