In Hollywood, It’s Always 1972

The movie Soylent Green — which depicted a world so overpopulated that the only solution was industrialized cannibalism — came out in 1973. It was inspired less by the novel it was based on (Make Room, Make Room) than Paul Ehrlich’s overpopulation alarmist book The Population Bomb;  which predicted that, due to overpopulation, the United States would experience widespread famine by the early 1980’s. Soylent Green was set five years in the future from our current year, in 2022. I can’t help but notice, we’re not on the verge of industrialized cannibalism. Much like Ehrlich’s vision of famines and global upheaval, it never happened. (Ehrlich has moved on to become a champion of Climate Change and is still well-regarded on the left as a “Population Expert.”)

Yet, here we are, 44 years later, and Hollywood is still churning out overpopulation movies. Even though current demographic trends in the Western world point to population decline, not overpopulation. And if we could get Africans to use birth control, then we pretty much would have global population decline.

So, why is Hollywood still beating this old drum? Well, for one thing, liberal (in the leftist, not classical sense) culture has ossified around the concerns of the hippie baby-boomers who defined the modern left. If it was a big deal in 1972, then to them it’s a big deal in 2017; which is why we’re stuck with all this ridiculous race obsession, and why Hollywood makes stupid movies about overpopulation. But I think another part of it is that overpopulation provides a rationale for abortion, and we all know how much Hollywood loves abortion.

In other stupid Hollywood news, have you heard about the remake of Lord of the Flies with an all-female cast? I am not making this up. I am thinking in this version, Simon will become Simone. The other girls won’t physically rip her apart, but will destroy her self-esteem through bullying and psychological abuse until she dies of anorexic starvation. Piggy will become ‘Peggy,’ and will be trampled to death during a shoe sale.

And it will still be funnier than that female Ghostbusters movie.

Death by Misplaced Compassion

A British transgender teen killed herself, supposedly because the school wouldn’t let her change her name.

A transgender teenager who killed himself “was angry with [his] school” after it refused to grant him permission to officially change his name, an inquest into his death has heard.
Leo Etherington had come out at home and at school – but teachers at Wycombe high school, an all-girls grammar school, told the 15-year-old that he could not change his name on the register for another year.
Giving evidence at an inquest into his son’s death, Martin Etherington said: “The school told him he had to be 16 to change his name. He said he was angry with the school.

I’m sorry, but if the kid offed herself over that… for that matter… couldn’t wait a few months … I don’t think you can call this a case of “bigotry-caused suicide.” That is, apparently, what you are supposed to think it is.

I wonder if the adults in this teenager’s life recognized the profound psychological problems she was obviously struggling with? Were they afraid to confront her for fear of being called bigots or H8Rs? Perhaps, losing their jobs and being publicly stigmatized for their ‘Hate Crime?” Or, were they merely blinded by the glow of their own virtue signaling as they praised Louise for her ‘courage’ and added ‘Transgender Teen’ to their collection of human Pokémon?

The politically correct belief is that the way to treat gender dysphoria is by indulging the sufferer’s delusion that they should be the opposite sex; that surgical and chemical mutilation of their body into a crude facsimile of the other sex will reconcile mind and body and resolve the disorder. What if this thinking is wrong? What if gender dysphoria is just a symptom or manifestation of more profound psychological issues that a sex-change merely papers over?

To what extent did CNN fake their “rescue”?

According to CNN, their correspondent Drew Griffin helped rescue a man from a truck yesterday in Houston (Hurricane Harvey). Actual quote from Griffin (in the video at presently at the preceding link): “There was no time to call 9-11”.

But, there was time for Griffin to change his outfit, putting on pants and boots. See this guy’s analysis:

YouTube Preview Image
  • At 0:34-0:35, he points out that Griffin is in shorts and sandals.
  • At 0:50, after an intentional CNN edit with their camera stopped on a Handicapped sign, you can see that Griffin is suddenly in pants and boots.

At time of writing, this is 100% consistent with CNN’s own video (at the link above).

Of course CNN is allowed to do edits to compress the storytelling. And of course costume changes are allowed, and can be done in seconds. By themselves, those things are understandable and not lies.

But still: How can it be that “There was no time to call 9-11”, yet there was time for a costume change? A change in the rain, that was supposedly all unplanned?

CNN had a crew of multiple people on-scene. If there was time for Griffin to do an unplanned costume change, there was time for one of the other crew to call 9-11 immediately. Something’s fishy. At a minimum, Griffin told a lie. At a bare minimum.

Black Snowflakes Triggered by Racist Banana Peel

A threadline that only makes sense in the Idiocratic America of 2017.

A Greek Life leader accidentally sparked mass hysteria after he placed a banana peel on a tree in the woods — because he could not find a trash can.

The Daily Mississippian reports that three black students found the banana peel — and were apparently triggered by what they saw.

“To be clear, many members of our community were hurt, frightened, and upset,” the interim director of fraternity and sorority life wrote in a letter obtained by the newspaper.

The president of one sorority told the newspaper that “bananas have historically been used to demean black people.”

“The massive discussion session wrapped up as more and more students stood and left the room – some in tears, some in frustration. NPHC members began texting friends to come and pick them up from the camp since no one had been allowed to drive his or her car up to the retreat. The remainder of the retreat was canceled later that night,” the newspaper reported.

Do these people breakdown in tears when they walk into the produce section of a supermarket and see watermelons?

And the university asylum is treating their hysteria as though it is legitimate.

“We are aware of the situation and are working to address it through appropriate channels,” the spokesman told me. “Since we became aware of what occurred at the fraternity and sorority community’s retreat, UM staff acted quickly in an effort to engage in discussion with students.”

What a stupid, stupid, stupid time to be alive.

Germany is said to be experimenting with hormone injections to make its population more acquiescent to Government policies.

A group of researchers from Germany and the United States have published a study which concludes that doping ‘xenophobic’ populations with massive quantities of the estrogen-linked hormone Oxytocin will cure nationalism – making native citizens more accepting and generous towards migrants.

As co-author René Hurlemann said in a related study; “Given the right circumstances, oxytocin may help promote the acceptance and integration of migrants into Western cultures.

I saw this in a movie once. The Government gave the entire population of a planet a drug to make them peaceful and compliant. Most of them died of apathy. The rest became Reavers.

Youtube/Google censorship: It’s real

Black Pigeon Speaks has the details.

By NO means do I agree with all of BPS’ positions or statements. To cite just one difference of many: he favors government-run health care (and I don’t).

But I have found that, even where I find his views silly, his videos are good-faith (if somewhat sarcastic) attempts to support his positions with science and facts. That Youtube (which means Google/Alphabet) would censor him – and other content creators who happen to be politically incorrect – while continuing to allow a ton of Islamist terrorist content, is disturbing.

It seems that 4chan pushed back with malware bots that generate fake ad traffic. The fake, extra traffic causes Google/Youtube to overcharge their advertisers, making trouble for everyone. I don’t endorse that tactic at all. Still, one can’t help but admire the goal: to remind Google/Youtube that they, too, depend greatly on the goodwill of others for their fragile existence.

Lots of people seem to be moving to BitChute and Vid.me. But I like the new YouTube: they’ve been letting me watch my favorite content ad-free (since the first step in the censoring the scapegoated content is “de-monetize” it).

Slate: Harvey Response Doesn’t Show America at its Best

The good news coming out of Houston is how people of all races and creeds have been coming together to help each other out. There have been some truly heroic rescues and sacrifices. Most of us are rightfully proud when people come together this way.

The bitter progressive leftists at Slate, not so much.

Disaster scientists have repeatedly punctured the myth, perpetuated by Hollywood and the media, that cataclysm awakens our worst selves. Rather, disruptive events loosen our mores just enough to permit new kinds of compassion ….

[Their] findings put a frame around the cooperative society that has lately emerged in Houston: It is a beautiful anomaly, a liquid note of silver momentarily liberated from its sheath of rust.

It’s a left-wing thing, if you see people feeling good about something, you have to tell them why they really should be bitter, ashamed, and angry about it… and everything else… all the time… forever.

And I bet that line about “a liquid note of silver momentarily liberated from its sheath of rust” really impressed her sophomore year creative writing class.

Pelosi disavows Antifa

Via Cernovich Media:

Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi issued a statement [Tuesday] disavowing alt-left terrorist organization ANTIFA…

“Our democracy has no room for inciting violence or endangering the public, no matter the ideology of those who commit such acts. The violent actions of people calling themselves antifa in Berkeley this weekend deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.”

Full Pelosi statement here.

Kudos to Pelosi for denouncing Antifa by name. As The Daily Caller says, “This marks the first-time Pelosi has condemned Antifa and is quite possibly the first time she has acknowledged the group’s existence.”

Now, if only we can get Mitt Romney, John McCain, Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan to do the same. Remember how their heads exploded when President Trump condemned political violence “on both sides”?

Sidebar: In case any leftie reading this doubts Trump’s full-on condemnation of the KKK, here is a “highlight reel” of him denouncing David Duke many times, over the years:

YouTube Preview Image

Also, if you would like, you can still join the whitehouse.gov petition to Formally recognize AntiFa as a terrorist organization.

Yvonne Felarca Flashback: The Feds arrested her in July. And Eric Clanton. So there is a little pushback on Antifa; and maybe we’ll see more.

UPDATE – It’s a trend: Berkeley’s mayor finally denounces Antifa, calling for the police to classify them as a “street gang”.

Arreguin said that while he does not support the far right, it was time to draw the line on the left as well…

Trump – and we – were just ahead of the curve. 😉

Proof, If Any Were Needed, That Political Violence Is A Left-Wing Phenomenon

The mayor of Berkeley is demanding that conservative speakers Ben Shapiro, Ann Coulter, and Milo Yiannopoulos not be allowed to speak in his city because violent leftists will destroy property and assault people.

“I’m very concerned about Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter and some of these other right-wing speakers coming to the Berkeley campus, because it’s just a target for black bloc to come out and commit mayhem on the Berkeley campus and have that potentially spill out on the street,” Arreguin said, referring to militants who have also been called anti-fascists or antifa…

“I obviously believe in freedom of speech, but there is a line between freedom of speech and then posing a risk to public safety,” the mayor said. “That is where we have to really be very careful — that while protecting people’s free-speech rights, we are not putting our citizens in a potentially dangerous situation and costing the city hundreds of thousands of dollars fixing the windows of businesses.”

I’m looking for the part of the interview where the mayor condemns the violent left-wing groups who actually commit the violence. So far, nada.

Have you noticed that right-wing people never riot to prevent people from expressing their points of view? And that is all Mr. Shapiro, Ms. Coulter, and Mr Yiannopoulos are going to do…. express points of view. They are not coming to beat up people, burn buildings, or smash windows. They are not going to encourage people to do those things.

But that is what the Progressive Left does every stinking chance it gets.

More black neighborhoods have been burned by #BlackLivesMatter supporters than by “White Nationalists.” This is a fact.

BTW, the student groups hosting Mr. Shapiro, Ms. Coulter, Mr. Yiannopoulos are being charged over $15,000 to help pay for the damage and violence that left-wingers will carry out. Think of it as a Free Speech Tax.

This is also what crazy looks like.

Let me know when you decide whether you want to be on Team Crazy or Team Reason.

Land of Confusion

The mister and I were in Home Depot the other day looking at light fixtures, and an HD employee came up and did the old, “Can I help you find something?”

Said employee had long lustrous hair, a build like a high school middle linebacker, tiny boobs and a deep voice. We both thought (as we discussed in the car later) “Tranny,” but what-to-what we weren’t quite sure. So, what pronoun were we to use, should it come up? Fortunately it didn’t come up.

But I also wonder what if this person wasn’t even a Transgenderina? What if it was just a woman who had been genetically sideswiped? Or what if she was like someone I knew in college who, although female and straight, had a deep voice and a masculine build as a result of steroid treatments she had been given in puberty to fight cancer. If so, would she be offended if I assumed she was a Transgenderina?

This California “Use the Wrong Pronoun, Go to Prison” thing is a minefield. How is anyone supposed to read someone else’s mind and know how to offend them; when even asking them could potentially offend them.

Careful of what people claim to be

Every human being alive (I’m no exception) likes people who agree with him or her. Hearing what we want to hear gives our brains a positive jolt. Gathering with like-minded people makes us feel “at home”. It’s human nature. Heck, it’s the reason I started visiting this blog (which is Bruce’s), years ago.

We also like to think that our heroes / important authorities would agree with us. This can be used for a marketing advantage. For example, if you dislike Donald Trump or his key supporters, you can get a leg up – in terms of having on-the-fence people read you or believe you – if you pretend to speak for the Republican party, as Ana Navarro does.

Or you could go Reagan. I’ve seen many folks quote (or re-tweet) a certain anti-Trump presence calling themselves The Reagan Battalion.

For my part, I’ve always felt a tad suspicious of them. They never struck me as especially Reagan-esque, or as linked to the Reagan legacy in some extra way that would justify claiming his name. The name strikes me as a marketing effort to say “Believe us, because we promise, Ronald Reagan R Us! Totes legit!”

I tend to be suspicious of Argument from Authority, and its variations like Argument from Biography, or Argument from What I Claim To Be. This is one reason (there are others) why I don’t talk my biography here on GP. My presence sort-of-tells people I’m gay, and my handle (ILC) announces my general ideology; other than that, I work to make my information/arguments stand on their merits.

Anyway: Lucian Wintrich, a gay Trump supporter and journalist, has done a piece critical of The Reagan Battalion that may be of interest. He says they were part of the anti-Milo campaign earlier this year (which I agree was a smear pile-on and as such, not the tiniest bit Reagan-esque). Wintrich links to other journalism that ties The Reagan Battalion to Democrat money and sketchy activists, per FEC and IRS filings.

This is one where I don’t claim to know “the truth”; just pointing out the article and letting people comment.

At last, some in Controlled Media slam the Alt Left

Let’s hope this becomes a trend.

  • Associated Press, Black-Clad Anarchists Swarm Anti-Hate Rally in Berkeley.

Berkeley, Calif. (AP) — An anti-hate rally was disrupted when scores of anarchists wearing black clothing and masks stormed the demonstration in Berkeley and attacked several supporters of President Donald Trump…

“Anarchist” is the wrong word for Antifa, AP; try “communist” (by philosophy) or “fascist” (by their actual behavior). But, baby steps.

  • The Washington Post, Black-clad antifa members attack peaceful right-wing demonstrators in Berkeley.

Their faces hidden behind black bandannas and hoodies, about 100 anarchists and antifa— “anti-fascist” — members barreled into a protest Sunday afternoon in Berkeley’s Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park…

Shortly after, violence began to flare. A pepper-spray-wielding Trump supporter was smacked to the ground with homemade shields. Another was attacked by five black-clad antifa members, each windmilling kicks and punches into a man desperately trying to protect himself. A conservative group leader retreated for safety behind a line of riot police as marchers chucked water bottles, shot off pepper spray and screamed, “Fascist go home!”

All told, the Associated Press reported at least five individuals were attacked. An AP reporter witnessed the assaults…

Not to be suspicious, but all this has only been going on for the past 18 months, so… Why report it this time? Why now?

“Toxic Masculinity and Privilege” at work

The image is from rescue operations of Hurricane Harvey. The title is, of course, a satirical zing at anti-whitemale Social Justice Warriors. A Twitter user gets 100% credit for the idea. I just don’t always like to “embed Tweets” because they seem to slow up the blog, sometimes.

This is a white supremacist? – Lefties, get real!

This is the “Patriot Prayer” guy, whose rally Nancy Pelosi recently smeared and shut down.

He identifies as a Person of Color (and is at least partly Japanese). He’s pro-gay marriage, anti-drug – but libertarian on drug policy, anti-racist, non-preachy / quiet Christian, and wants to build a healthy culture where people discuss differences with love and kindness.

Antifa surrounds and gasses him, for his trouble.

UPDATE: Antifa at work.

Socialism, Starvation, and Child Prostitution

The Progressive left says that Venezuela’s problems are all because the price of oil collapsed, but I don’t see people starving and resorting to prostitution in Saudi Arabia or Norway.

As night falls over Caracas, and most of the city’s residents lock their doors against its ever more violent streets, Adriana Velásquez gets ready for work, heading out into an uncertain darkness as she has done since hunger forced her into the only job she could find at 14.

She was introduced to her brothel madam by a friend more than two years ago after her mother, a single parent, was fired and the two ran out of food. “It was really hard, but we were going to bed without eating,” said the teenager, whose name has been changed to protect her.

Since then Venezuela’s crisis has deepened, the number of women working at the brothel has doubled, and their ages have dropped. “I was the youngest when I started. Now there are girls who are 12 or 13. Almost all of us are there because of the crisis, because of hunger.”

Note, this article is from the Far Left ‘Guardian’ website. A few years ago, they were cheering the ‘success’ of Chavista socialism and lionizing the architect of the Venezuela’s socialist economy.

The Left shuts down another rally for peace

From the SF Examiner:

An Aug. 26 rally planned at Crissy Field by the group Patriot Prayer has San Francisco politicians from Rep. Nancy Pelosi to Mayor Ed Lee denouncing it as hateful, with warnings that past rallies by the group have attracted white supremacists. In the wake of this news, Joey Gibson, the prominent organizer of Patriot Prayer, has decided to speak out.

I added emphasis to “attracted”, because what a strange construction!

Media don’t say that Joey Gibson or Patriot Prayer are racist. No, no, no. They know it to be false (and you’ll see why, below). Here’s another example, “His group in the past has organized other events that have attracted white supremacists…”

They’re saying that, because white supremacist *troublemakers might decide on their own* to show up and manufacture trouble, Gibson/PP’s activities are then “hateful” and Gibson/PP’s constitutional right to peaceably assemble should be denied.

I’ve never seen a better indicator that the constant rumors might be true of David Duke, Richard Spencer, etc. being on the government’s and/or Left’s payroll. What a way to shut down anything with “prayer” or “patriot” in it! Create fake (or at least irrelevant) charges of white supremacy. But, to continue:

[Examiner] What do you say to San Francisco’s oppositional reaction to your rally?

[Gibson] …I constantly promote love. In love, you don’t see skin color. I’m trying to focus on who people are on the inside…There’s a lot of liberals I have common ground with. Moderates.

[Examiner] OK, if you’re down the middle, who do you agree with on the left?

[Gibson] In my view, half of America. Gay rights, being against the drug war…

[Examiner] In a Facebook live event you said San Francisco is disgusting. What did you mean?

[Gibson] Downtown San Francisco just looks horrible. I’m not blaming the left. It’s the hate, and the drugs.

[Examiner] Do you mean the homeless?

[Gibson] No. I used to be homeless…

[Examiner] What ethnicity are you, by the way?

[Gibson] I’m Japanese.

[Examiner] How do you feel about the political pushback?

[Gibson] Pelosi is lying for her own selfish reasons. She quadrupled the size of the rally. She made it more dangerous, with complete lies.

[Examiner] What about San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee?

[Gibson] It’s the same. It’s a complete lie for political gain [that the rally is a white supremacist rally].

[Examiner] But your rallies have attracted white supremacists, skinheads and neo-Nazis before. Why should anyone believe they will not, again?

[Gibson] We won’t let any extremists speak. We’ll let moderates speak. It’s a big part of the goal. We have 10 speakers now, and out of them, we have one white male speaking…We made signs saying we don’t support Identity Europa. I’ve literally disowned white supremacists [in his videos]…

Feel free to Read The Whole Thing; I tried to give the essence. Or you can check out Tucker’s interview with Gibson – who appears to be mixed-race, including Japanese-American.

Also, here’s a link to video where Gibson identifies as a “person of color” (his term) and emphasizes that Patriot Prayer is about spirituality and unity.

Now, what did Nasty Pelosi have to say about this guy? She called his rally “white supremacist”, flat out, then tried to imply that the Trump White House was behind San Francisco’s local decision to permit the rally.

This is a dark moment. The Alt Left – including Nancy Pelosi and other politicians who enjoy the Alt Left’s hateful violence and refuse to limit or deny it anything – has taken America to a very bad place. Half of America is to be stripped of its constitutional rights to speech and assembly, based on demagoguing the other half with lies/delusions.

I’m sorry to say that Breitbart’s role in all this was not good; they initially joined the “white supremacist” smear, and had to correct. Uncharacteristic.

We may as well note the Arpaio thing

To me, it’s a yawner, sorry. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a patriot. He tried to enforce existing border law. He stepped on some judge’s order and was then targeted for prosecution by the Obama administration. He was found guilty, under the letter of the law. The Constitution lets the President pardon people. Some lefties are calling it the end of the Constitution, that President Trump would have pardoned Arpaio; but it’s the usual misleading hyperbole. In reality, the whole thing from start to finish is an exercise of the Constitution.

Here’s video of former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (a clean government guy) making the point (among others) that President Obama pardoned or commuted the sentences of 1700 people, from drug dealers to forgers to the traitorous Chelsea Manning.

YouTube Preview Image

UPDATE: Who can forget Bill Clinton’s pardon of Marc Rich? By any objective standard, Arpaio deserves his pardon more than Rich or Manning.

Which is what makes it so boring. The Left gins up non-controversy #1,388,544,877 over a pardon as reasonable/constitutional as any.

UPDATE: Our intrepid commenters point out other matters where Arpaio might deserve prosecution. I could be fine with that. Operative word, “other”.

In this post, I’m discussing the one contempt-of-court charge. I assumed that Trump’s pardon was tailored to that. I looked for the actual text of the pardon and didn’t find it. But I think it would have to be (since conviction comes before pardon).

How exactly did Charlottesville go so wrong?

A number of articles in the last two weeks raise important questions about the role of the police/government, in generating the Charlottesville tragedy. In presenting some of them below, I’m keeping my tone as neutral as I can.

Aug. 25 from the New York Times, “As White Nationalist in Charlottesville Fired, Police ‘Never Moved’”.

As demonstrators clashed near a downtown park here two weeks ago, a white nationalist protester in a bulletproof vest turned, pointed a pistol toward the crowd and fired a single shot at the ground, in the direction of a black man wielding an improvised torch.

To make his escape, a video recording shows, the armed protester strolled past a line of about a dozen state police troopers who were safely positioned about 10 feet away behind two metal barricades. None of them budged.

“We all heard it and ran — I know damn well they heard it,” said Rosia Parker, a community activist in Charlottesville. “They never moved.”

And so on. They got the shooter later, yay! But why only later? What were the police doing, on-scene? Nothing.

Note: That does not necessarily mean the police were wrong; it could be, rather, that a higher authority gave them bad orders. You will see this become a theme. As NYT puts it, “So stark was the police failure to intervene, many participants in the protest and counterprotests believe it was by design.”

Next, the finger-pointing between local police, Virginia state police, and various politicians (including Gov. Terry McAuliffe – D). From the above NYT article:

The city did not use a number of security measures recommended by the state police, said Brian Moran, Virginia’s secretary of public safety and homeland security, including a ban on weapons and sticks of all kinds. The state also proposed designating parking areas, busing protesters and cutting off traffic for at least 10 blocks. None of that happened, he said…

The organizers of the rally said the [local] police had unilaterally changed details that they spent weeks negotiating, such as how they would safely enter and exit the park. “They didn’t follow through on any part of their plan,” said one of the coordinators…“They threw the whole thing away without telling us.” The changes involved every aspect of logistics, he said, including where counterprotesters would be, which streets would be blocked and how V.I.P.s would enter.

More from Breitbart:

From The Washington Free Beacon on Aug. 14, more on the finger-pointing between the Virginia State Police and Gov. McAuliffe: (more…)
