Progressives and Crime

Here is an interesting and informative article about social justice dogma and the criminal justice system. It is long on reason and facts, and short on appeals to emotion. Here is a TL:DR summary.

  1. Progressive Left policies on crime (such as those embraced by Black Lives Matter and most all Democrats) are based on a social justice hypothesis that crime is a result of income disparity and racism.
  2. There is no real-world evidence to support this hypothesis; it is based entirely on social justice dogma.
  3. There is ample real-world evidence the criminals are defined by a predatory pathology. That they are driven by a desire to self-gratify (often through violence) and have no regard for their victims. These traits are very often inter-generational.
  4. The left’s misguided insistence on treating criminal behavior as an issue of racism and social inequality has led to billions of dollars being squandered, and countless lives destroyed through the violence of criminals who should have been locked up (or put down) but weren’t because progressives believe that putting criminals in jail is mean and unfair.

  4. the left support crime because the more crime the better chance people will want the glorious revolution. it is a Marxist’s job to destroy the existing order. “progressives believe that putting criminals in jail is mean and unfair.” nothing could be further from the truth, look at what they do in any country they govern. the left only support the criminal in countries they are looking to destroy.

  5. There are not-so-loose relations between,

    1) the criminal mind and/or the nihilist;
    2) the anxious and/or insecure toddler used to his/her way after screaming loud enough;
    3) the unscrupulous power-hungry;
    4) the irresponsible (for, hypocrite and narcissstic) virtue signaller

    All 4 share the same pair of traits which induces a great tension between their self and the rest of the world — or, say, “society”:

    a) a deeply rooted irresponsibility wrt. the realm of consequences of their acting themselves in the world, at almost any scale — very little of what they do or act upon really matters for their inner self in the non-immediate time — they really do not care about introspecting in the present if only (let alone, solely) in preparation for their future, in weeks, months, or years,, andrsue for the betterment of self, or their close circle, or broader circle’s condition; it’s all about “me, myself, I” here and right now;

    b) a crave for instant gratification, directly, by proxy, or otherwise, subsequent to the fundamental antagonism of (a) vs a constructive (or at least, non destructive way) to handle interpersonal or societal interactions within the bounds of a world with limited resources and natural laws which are, for most of them, extremely difficult if not impossible to ignore or circumvent (eg, supply/demand law, pareto efficiency, self-interest incentives motivating human nature across cultures and times, etc)

  6. The assumption that criminals are the victims of social conditions is now “settled science.” Or more like religious dogma, and any heresy must be punished.

    Also, the PC “root causes” assumption serves The Agenda, and provides one more argument for increasing the welfare state (meaning more bureaucracy, and more sinecures for the SJW’s).

    And the Progressives’ efforts to reduce “mass incarceration” result in dangerous criminals being released from prison. Then, when those criminals commit more crimes, the Progressives blame the NRA.

    The “gun control” issue is a scapegoat, a decoy to make it appear that the leftist politicians are trying to “do something” about crime.

    If we are allowed to blame crime on criminals instead of on inanimate objects, or on vague “social conditions,” then the idea of personal responsibility might spread. Then able-bodied young adults might be expected to get jobs and support themselves instead of demanding Free Stuff From the Government. (BTW, that goes for white, upper middle class college students as well as for welfare queens in South Central Los Angeles.)

    Progressives are not always against incarceration, though. They want to let muggers and crack dealers out of prison. But then they want to fill the prisons with “real” offenders. Like someone who voted for Trump. Or a blogger who criticized Obama. Or someone who inadvertently used the wrong pronoun for Caitlyn Jenner or Chelsea Manning.

  7. While Liberal Supremacists tell us that “Poverty causes crime,” the truth (surprise, surprise) is just the opposite: Crime causes poverty.
    My grandparents may have been poor, but they weren’t criminals.

  9. @7

    Does poverty cause crime? Wrong!

    Inequality without ladders of incentives does it very effectively, though.

    The empiricist among us will probably just invite others (especially the genius leftist ideologues) to go ask Venezuela for very down-to-earth(*) insights.

    (*) pun intended

  11. I can’t help but wonder if progressivism is to communism as Nazism is to fascism: a racialized variant of a terrible political ideology that winds up being nightmarish.

  12. #6 “The assumption that criminals are the victims of social conditions is now ‘settled science.’ “

    Because it is standard practice of the left to endlessly repeat a lie, regardless of the evidence presented to show it to be a lie, and then after having repeated that lie for long enough, to point to that long history of lies as proof that the lie is truth.
