One Way to Deal with it

One of the suggestions for dealing with Wedding Cake Fascists was that people who object to being forced to participate in gay weddings should tell prospective gay clients they will donate their fees to organizations gay leftists don’t like. Some victims have taken exactly that approach.

“Displayed at the bottom of each page in the ‘Weddings’ section of its website is a clearly marked disclaimer that reads”:
At Liberty Ridge Farm, our deeply held religious belief is that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, and the Farm is operated with the purpose of strengthening and promoting marriage. In furtherance of this purpose and to honor and promote our moral and religious beliefs, we donate a portion of our business proceeds to organizations that promote strong marriages such as the Family Research Council.

Good for them, although it’s sad that the disrespect the gay left holds for basic human rights forces them into this position. No doubt, the HRC or some other parasite organization is trying to figure out if they can sue to block them from donating to the cause of their choice.

  1. I get a kick out of this. The Pope still says no to gay marriage.

I’m sure this irks a lot of leftists and the LGBT lobbyists.

  2. I’ve done a 180 on the issue since last year. Formerly taking the opposite stance, I was against discrimination, and was pro punishing those who did not follow discrimination laws (though not supporting such harsh monetary damages).

But the increased polarization and the Rabid noxiousness coming from the Left (Liberals) has changed my mind. Yes I know, shocking but true. I am definitely pro boycott oriented now. There’s just no other way to be when it comes to opposing those who wish to destroy the country and our society. As a conservative, I do indeed feel obligated to keeping the best in society and opposing radical change.

The turning point for myself was the unabated and continued poison coming from the Left as well as their increased violence and toxicity.

Fight Fire with Fire, I say.

  3. As a straight guy I need to say that all the grief because of ‘gay marriage’ seems manufactured and induced. If you look at both sides there’s a lot of positives to build on. These are my views. Yours may differ.

‘Traditional marriage’ began as a religious rite thousands of years ago. It has a history, traditions, and a voice that speaks to millions today. ‘Gay marriage’ proponents wanted to legalize and sanctify their unions in the same manner and with the same respect given. That also speaks. Both of these philosophies were voluntary and self-supporting. Both can coexist. Both can overlap.

Somewhere along the way these views were stolen and weaponized by the left. Their method of operation is their version of a zero sum game. The original zero sum states that every loss by one side is offset by a loss on the other side. The new liberal version is that whether the left wins or loses, the other side must have a loss. The people defending their heritage of traditional marriage are evil and must be destroyed. The fact that states were finally realizing that denial of a same-sex union is wrong was not enough. Not only must you acknowledge our rights, but you must surrender your own. There is no personal choice allowed.

That’s why we’re left with cake baking as a battle.

  4. Not only must you acknowledge our rights, but you must surrender your own.

Actually, they’re demanding that you surrender your principles, …much more intrusive and existential.

    Forty-years ago I thought that SSM was a bridge-too-far, and that it would take a hundred years or longer. My freshman-college year sodomy was still illegal were I lived and went to school. Just “being gay” could get you “hospitalized”, expelled or ruin your career-hopes. I thought then that the order of things for national-level societal reforms would be;
    1. Decriminalize gay sex. (sodomy and perversion convections)
    2. Workplace and retail equality.
    3. Adoption and families.
    4. Military participation.
    5. Housing protection.
    6. SSM
And just the basic LGB community, not the Tv-Tg-IJKXYWZ-alphabet-soup of perversions and confusions.

Somehow the Gay Community got #1 and then somehow leapt to #6 through the Courts. Oddly, #4 actually developed through a mostly executive/legislative process. While somehow #2-#5 is a patchwork at the local and state levels.

Meanwhile, across the river from me in PA’s Philly suburbs; if the homophobic neighbors burn a cross on your lawn, all the police will do is direct-traffic so everyone gets a good view, while your employer fires you for the bad publicity and the County takes away your kids. …And that’s a fairly Liberal state.

And the Gay Left is obsessed over cakes…?

  5. I love to remind proponents of gay marriage that traditional marriage was there specifically to provide a stable base for the bearing and raising of children.

And invariably, they bring up royal arranged marriages especially in Europe. Imagine their absolute shock when I inform them that children were absolutely ESSENTIAL for those unions to work. The children were to have claims to both thrones, thus cementing the truce forever. As proof, I offer Henry VIII and Catherine of Arragon. Because she could not produce a male heir, the entire marriage was annulled.

  7. Sorry to rain on your sad little parade, rusty, but gay people can dress up, have a little make-believe ceremony then a nice little reception afterwards and pretend all they want, BUT THEY’RE NOT MARRIED. And I’m a homo-type sexual who was gay long before it was cool.

  8. 5. Henry and Katherine’s marriage was officially annulled as ‘incestuous’ because she was his brother’s window, Henry argued the death of his male children in infamy as proof that it was incestuous, but ultimately, it happened because Henry wanted to marry his much younger mistress.

Ultimately, the term marriage has been used to apply to matches made primarily for children, but also for dynastic reasons, for inheritance and property, or even shared division of labor. A modern straight couple who get sterilized and sign a pre-nup dividing their finances is more out of line with history than a gay couple who also adopt and raise children together.

Inherently, I think the idea of marriage as a legal contract and marriage as a religious ceremony need to be divided, the way adulthood customs are. You are adult at 18, but you can’t make the rabbi give you a Bar mitzvah, and a bar mitzvah doesn’t let you vote.

My parents are non-religious and married under common law, but they stayed together for 40 years now and six kids. My aunt and uncle were married in a Christian ceremony, but my aunt had ovarian cancer at a young age and they knew since before the wedding that no children were ever going to be possible. They are quite different circumstances, but still marriages, and I don’t see why two men who love each other wouldn’t be included.

  9. None of this would be a problem today if Progressive Democrats back in the 1920’s hadn’t decided to stop mixed race marriages with laws putting the government in charge of marriage.

  10. I like your third paragraph, Karen (#8). I have argued along similar lines–although not using your great Bar Mitzvah example, which I would like to borrow–for years. The government should establish civil unions for consenting adults, and the religions should have their rules for marriage. The only problem is the vocabulary, and as poetry seems to have gone out of society as a whole, I’m afraid the new terms will be unlovely.

  11. Who wants to have their cake made by someone who doesn’t like them? I would be like going to eat with a friend only to find out he took you to the place his ex boyfriend works.

    Comment by Steve — April 3, 2018 @ 10:58 am - April 3, 2018

  12. Marriage would have best given to the religious organizations, and civil union being the legal status from a clerk’s office. And this for all unions as far as legal matters count. Much of the religious concern for marriage is actually based too much notions from the 19th century. (As someone with far too much genes of all those marriages of the British nobility over these past centuries)

But no – marriage had to be the term for all those silly things needing to play off – again – 19th century notions of relationship with the weight of the civil law.

Cake war was the nonsense of the silly leftist added as wedding gift

  13. And of course the stupid pervert rusty shows up to make the point.

Gay marriage is a weapon to the left. Notice how the stupid pervert rusty tries to smear and attack conservatives for getting married instead of celebrating it.

Perverts like rusty don’t care a whit about what marriage means or its value to society. They just want it as a means to hurt others.

  14. After a gay bar in New York kicked out a gay Republican and tried to blame him for what they and they alone instigated, the people going after cake bakers have officially lost any and all moral credibility on the issue.

Serve drinks to gay Republicans or you don’t get wedding cake.
