Maybe he confused it with federal funding of Planned Parenthood. Except that it’s actually millions who don’t exist.

The consensus among the lefties is that the way to cure deficits is to soak the rich. This, of course, will not work. You would have to double the tax rate on the top income earners to even make a dent in the deficit, and that’s assuming a static revenue model.
But revenues are not static because people adjust their behavior in response to tax policy. When taxes increase, people have less income to spend, that means fewer products and services are purchased, companies have smaller profits and have to reduce their own expenditures which may include laying off people. Fewer people working means lower tax revenues.
But, of course, leftists are ignorant of economics and don’t get that.
If high taxes were the cure for deficits and good for the economy, California, New York, and Illinois would sitting pretty right now instead of being economic and fiscal basket cases.
But, of course, leftists are ignorant of economics and don’t get that.

The point of Senator Reid’s strange epiphany the Federal Funding is all about picking winners & losers; the Obama Democrats wants 100% control of the private sector. Hence, their need to demonize people is certain classes of wealth, the “rich.” However, what the Democrats fail to mention by purpose is the “rich” is really just the middle class Americans. They want 100% of taxes from everyone at some point. I believe this class warfare nonsense is mostly ignored by most people as the Obama Democrats eat their own. That’s always the point of class warfare: To pit one group against another out of their own distorted view of “fairness.”

Jim Geraghty finds that the NEA and NEH really didn’t help the Cowboy Poets all that much, if at all.
