Terrorists are people who:
- won’t fight as part of a regular military; and who
- mainly attack others who are not part of a regular military (that is, civilians); in order to
- intimidate people into accepting (or not dissenting from) the terrorists’ political viewpoint.
Guess what? That’s Antifa.
Antifa is also a conspiracy to commit crimes. As one of our fine commentors recently suggested, they may be compared to other criminal conspiracies. Here’s my take.
- On the one hand, Antifa “only” plans crimes of felony assault and vandalism (that could get out of hand and become manslaughter or murder, semi-accidentally). In that way, they’re a bit less dangerous than the Mafia (which plans specific murders).
- On the other hand, many of the Mafia’s crimes are intra-Mafia. Not so with Antifa, ALL of whose crimes are directed at the larger society. In that way, they’re more dangerous than the Mafia.
Where is the FBI, on Antifa? Or the Department of Justice?
Yesterday, President Trump outlined his tax plan. Key features:
- Slightly lower personal income tax rates. (Top rate from near-40% to 35%.)
- Eliminating almost all income tax deductions, except mortgage interest and charitable contributions. (No more deduction for your State or property taxes, among other things.) Increase in the “standard deduction”.
- Much lower corporate income tax rates. (Top rate from 35%, one of the world’s highest, to 15%.)
- A one-time tax on overseas business profits. (That haven’t been repatriated to the U.S. Apple has a lot.)
- A “territorial system” where future profits that corporations earn abroad, are not taxed.
- Repealing a bunch of taxes and complications, most notably the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and the estate tax.
Of course, Congress still has to chew on it.
Taking Trump’s proposals by themselves, I have little objection. Rates should be lower. High income taxes are a form of slavery. Corporate income taxes are stupid because they are an indirect, distorted sales tax (that is, a tax paid ultimately by consumers). Estate taxes destroy many small businesses (forcing families to liquidate the business in order to pay the 50% tax or whatever).
Nonetheless, I can’t praise this plan. Because it will reduce revenues at first, without being matched by spending cuts. Our budget will come no closer to balance.
President Obama already doubled the U.S. national debt in his 8 years, from roughly $10 trillion to roughly $20 trillion, for an average real annual deficit around $1.25 trillion. Is Trump going to beat Obama’s record? I sure hope not.
This is an important point. The true level of taxation is the government’s spending level. All spending must be paid for, one way or another. There are 3 possibilities.
- Overt taxes.
- Borrowing. This is a covert tax, a tax on the future (when either the debt must be repudiated, or more and more government revenues must be diverted to servicing it).
- Money-printing. Another hidden tax, this time on the real value (the purchasing power) of everyone’s wages and savings. Also known as “inflation”.
So really, it isn’t a tax cut unless it’s a spending cut also. Trump wants to cut the overt taxes. So, what? Without spending cuts, it’s only a corresponding increase in the hidden taxes: borrowing and/or money-printing.
And what happens when we add (say) a Trump infrastructure spending package and a Syria or North Korea war on top of that? More of the hidden taxes: borrowing and/or money-printing.
I meant to do this awhile back, updating previous posts in the series.
When President Obama left office on January 20, 2017, the U.S. national debt was $19.9 trillion. ($14.4 trillion held by the public; $5.5 trillion “intragovernmental”, for example, Treasury bonds held by Social Security.)
When Obama took office on January 20, 2009, the U.S. national debt was $10.6 trillion. ($6.3 trillion held by the public; $4.3 intragovernmental)
Obama more-than-doubled the part of the U.S. national debt that everyone agrees is important (what’s “held by the public”). And he nearly doubled the total.
And for what? Eight years of the weakest economy “recovery” on record.
Ann Coulter had to cancel her talk at Berkeley because violent leftists threatened to disrupt it, and the University decided it couldn’t stand up to them.
Now, the city of Portlandia has canceled its annual Rose Parade because violent left-wing groups threatened to disrupt it.
Before anyone offers the weak tea defense, “Well, of course *I* don’t condone this, but both sides do it,” please remind me the last time a left-wing speaker or public event had to be canceled because the alt-right threatened a violent response?
The New York Times, by the way, endorses the view that conservatives have no business trying to present their views in leftist environments like college campuses, and thus implicitly endorses the use of violence to keep such views out.
Don’t condone violence my butt.
Ann Coulter and Jesse Lee Peterson, together at last. Enjoy!
Hulu has adapted a leftist fantasy novel about the United States becoming a Christian Theocracy into a dumb TV show. In this leftist fantasy, gays are publically executed and women are subjugated to serve as sex slaves to powerful men. This is just like Trump’s America, according to the Democrat Media Complex.
“A time very much like ours” is how The New York Times describes the scenes, shown in flashback, in which the gay-executing, woman-subjugating theocracy seizes power, using a terror attack in Washington as its Reichstag fire. Another Times piece says the show “arrives with a newfound and unexpected resonance in Trump’s America.” The Hollywood Reporter calls it “a story for the time and place we’re living in.” Harper’s Bazaar avers that it “Strikes uncomfortably close to real-world political rhetoric.” Slate deems it “Eerily prescient.”
This is the leftist world of paranoia and delusion; where Christians are just one election away from creating a Theocracy that will turn women into sex slave and murder all the homosexuals.
There’s only one religion out there that is subjugating women and killing gays. It ain’t Christianity. And it’s the one religion that progressive leftists love.
Ace notes that the Antifa Wing of the Democrat Coalition is having second thoughts about engaging in violent protest ever since Skanksquatch (a.k.a. “Moldylocks”) got punched at one of their recent Riots Against Free Speech and Basic Decency. Also because 4Chan Detectives identified the cowardly POS who was whacking free speech supporters with a bike lock. (“How dare they dox one of us. It’s so unf-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-i-r!“)
Others in the Antifa Wing of the Democrat Coalition have suggested they should arm up and learn to fight better. But still others find this approach problematic because it would reaffirm manliness and other cis-normative social values.
Nordstrom is selling pre-mudded jeans for $425 a pair. So hipsters can wear them ironically, I guess.
In its description for the pants, the company says they “embody rugged, Americana workwear that’s seen some hard-working action” and that, when worn, they show “you’re not afraid to get down and dirty.”
Wonder how much a hipster would pay for the muddy, paint-stained jeans I’ve been wearing for the last year of doing house renovations. Probably nothing since they don’t have a 26″ waist.
The last few weeks, I’ve explored the so-called “alt-Right” a little. Not joining it per se, just looking at material produced by people who are supposed to be it.
I keep having the same, strange experience. I’m told that these people are supposed to be neo-Nazi white nationalist fringies. But they aren’t! Milo, Mike Cernovich, the handsome Jack Posobiec, Rebel Media, Breitbart.com, Diamond and Silk, Jesse Lee Peterson – None of them are like that.
For sure, my search isn’t objective. When I come across some web site or material that starts to get racial – like, say, therightstuff dot biz – I go “Ugh!” and don’t look much further. Because assigning importance to race is dumb, whether it’s from the Left or the Right, I usually don’t want to waste my time on people/sites that do it. (Fuller comment in this thread.)
So I’m sure there must be some swathe of the alt-Right, somewhere, that gets racist. But again: left-wing protestors and media promised me that the names mentioned above would be that way… and they just aren’t.
As to the alt-Right: the names mentioned above talk about it in much the same way, like “I don’t know if I’m part of it. If it’s white nationalists, I’m out. If it’s challenging the Left / Deep State / Big Government / globalists in ways that are persuasive and fun, I’m in.” That’s roughly how I feel.
In Atlanta, a group of artistes engaging in the same, tiresome “shock the normals” stuff that artistes have been doing for about 70 years now, are putting on a production recasting major figures of the Bible as flamboyantly gay and sternly lesbian.
First performed in 1998, Rudnick’s show follows gay couple Adam and Steve, and lesbian couple Jane and Mabel as they navigate Biblical history—each duo believing that they were created first by God. The Virgin Mary, and assorted other figures, are also recast as homosexual.
They don’t dare try these stunts with the Koran. Mohammedanism has become the de facto state religion of the left. No criticism is allowed. No joking is allowed. Absolutely reverence and deference must be paid to Mohammedanism and its followers. And if the state wants to proselytize for Islam in public schools or prisons, why that’s just fine.
You will never, ever, see a group of “progressive” artists mounting a production portraying Mohammed as a gay man, or mocking the tenets of Islam. Not because they respect Mohammedanism, but because for all of their “fearless girl” posturing, at their core, leftists are cowards.
House Minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, says that Trump “talking about this [border] wall is expressing a sign of weakness.”
Umm…isn’t Pelosi showing weakness, by not retiring?
(I’m thinking of the mental weakness or illogic that she displays, as she talks on these issues. Also the spiritual weakness that keeps her clinging to power, rather than letting go and trying something new at age 77.)
After Milo’s trouble in February, I knew he’d be back. He has a lot to say, he needs the attention, he’s fun and the camera loves him.
Via Breitbart.com, it’s MILO’S FREE SPEECH WEEK. (I think the all-caps are part of the shtick?)
In light of recent controversies, I am planning a huge multi-day event called MILO’S FREE SPEECH WEEK in Berkeley later this year. We will hold talks and rallies and throw massive parties, all in the name of free expression and the First Amendment. All will be welcome, regardless of political affiliation.
During MILO’S FREE SPEECH WEEK, we will give out a new free speech prize — the Mario Savio Award — to the person we believe has done most to protect free expression at UC Berkeley and its surrounding area. Each day will be dedicated to a different enemy of free speech, including feminism, Black Lives Matter and Islam.
If UC Berkeley does not actively assist us in the planning and execution of this event, we will extend festivities to an entire month. We will establish a tent city on Sproul Plaza protesting the university’s total dereliction of its duty and encourage students at other universities to follow suit.
I intend to return Berkeley to its rightful place as the home of free speech — whether university administrators and violent far-left antifa thugs like it or not.
Mario Savio was, per Wiki, “a key member in the Berkeley Free Speech Movement. He is most famous for his passionate speeches, especially the ‘put your bodies upon the gears’ address given at Sproul Hall…on December 2, 1964.”
P.S. I respect and admire Ann Coulter, but do you want to know the difference between her and Milo? A penis and $20,000. (My understanding is that she charges 20K to speak to College Republicans, while he charges them zero. If that’s incorrect, I would be happy to hear it in the comments.)
Not to step on Jeff’s excellent post, but I saw this and thought it kind of forwards his points. The use of the Global Warming/Climate Change Scare to further a socialist/globalist political agenda has been going on almost as long as I have been alive.
It was in 1972 that the UN and World Bank, along with the Club of Rome decided to use CAGW (“catastrophic anthropogenic global warming”) as a whip to drive humanity back into serfdom.
Details in comments at the link. Including the CIA getting into the act in 1974, publishing a report claiming that “global cooling” and overpopulation would lead to catastrophic consequences by the mid-1980s.
In 1973, NASA made conscious political decision to preserve its funding by reinventing itself as an environmentalist organization:
“NASA realized that it needed to research environmental-atmospheric impacts of the shuttle to defend itself, if necessary, against possible opposition more positively, (NASA Chief James) Fletcher sought to align his agency with environmental values. In 1973, he told congress that NASA should be considered “an environmental agency.” he declared: “everything we do …helps in some practical way to improve the environment of our planet and helps us understand the forces that affect it. Perhaps that is our essential task, to study and understand the earth and its environment.”
Which resulted in NASA predicting, in 1988, that devastating consequences from Global Warming would begin to be felt in the mid-1990s.
Then, as now, there was only one set of solutions to avoid global catastrophe: A massive transfer of power and wealth from the private sector to the Government, and trans-national political authorities led by political elites to implement planet-wide environmental policies and resource allocation. Coincidentally, the people promoting the Climate Change Catastrophes would accumulate wealth and power under these policies; but this was necessary to save the planet.
I find Molyneux’s video-enlarged, ranting bald head a bit creepy. But his content is often brilliant. I recently listened to this one from 2015.
Molyneux proposes the following thought experiment:
- Suppose stockbrokers (or bankers or politicians or oil company CEOs – whomever you view as corruptible) are in charge of calculating some important measure of the world.
- Let’s call it the Economy Rate (ER). It could go up or down. The stockbrokers fudge and massage the ER data, as they see fit.
- First, the stockbrokers say “The ER is so important! and it’s going DOWN! That’s bad! Give us tens of billions of taxpayer money, and we’ll watch it and figure out what to do.”
- But over the years, the ER rises. The stockbrokers say “The ER is so important! and it’s going UP! That’s bad! Give us tens of billions of taxpayer money, and we’ll watch it and figure out what to do.”
- But then the ER stops going up. The stockbrokers say “The ER is so important! and it could go UP OR DOWN! With unpredictable pauses! That’s bad! Give us tens of billions of taxpayer money, and we’ll watch it and figure out what to do.”
At what point do you begin to see that the stockbrokers are taking you, in a racket?
- Point 1 is climate scientists – who are a huge, publicly-funded industry. Each scientist profits (as wage/salary payments, benefits, etc.) from the grants she receives.
- Point 2 is the world average temperature, which climate scientists derive from data that they themselves fudge and massage.
- Point 3 is the 1970s, when climate scientists gave alarming predictions of a New Ice Age.
- Point 4 is the 1980s to the 2000s, when their monster was Global Warming. The famous “hockey stick” upward graph.
- Point 5 is recent years, when the “hockey stick” graph failed and they switched it to Climate Change – in whatever direction.
Do you believe that climate scientists are less corruptible than stockbrokers (or bankers or politicians or oil company CEOs)? That they’re somehow more objective and noble?
I don’t. You who do (lefties) have a RELIGIOUS FAITH in climate scientists, that you’re not admitting. And it’s exactly what climate scientists want you to have.
Your delusional, gullible faith is how they keep their tens of billions of taxpayer dollars coming. And of course they would have a “consensus” that they are objective and noble and deserve it and should be listened to and those dollars should keep coming. Of course they would.
Happy Earth Day!
Trump never gets a break from the haters.
Trump asked Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, an Obama holdover, to step down. In his place, the president promoted Deputy Surgeon General Sylvia Trent-Adams as acting surgeon general.
Instead of applauding President Trump for elevating a black, female nurse to the post, leftists attacked Dr. Trent-Adams’ credentials, saying she’s “just a nurse.” Obviously, Trump’s promotion of a black woman doesn’t fit the liberal media narrative that Trump is a “racist misogynist.”
You know that Islamic Supremacists committed yet another terror attack in Paris last week. (Or, maybe you didn’t because the attacks have become so commonplace that people have stopped doing the “Put the French flag on your Facebook picture” thing.)
You perhaps did not know that one of the cops they murdered was a gay rights activist in a gay marriage with another gay dude.
Islamic Supremacists murdering gay people is bad for the Left’s “We’re all one big happy community of the oppressed” narrative. If the gay dude had been murdered by a white nationalist, this story would be getting a lot more publicity.
First, some stuff that sounds almost reasonable (if a bit histrionic). From Hillary’s Twitter stream on Oct. 24, 2016:
Donald Trump refused to say that he’d respect the results of this election. That’s a direct threat to our democracy.
Per the Daily Caller link above, she went on to say:
That’s not the way our democracy works. We’ve been around 240 years. We’ve had free and fair elections and we’ve accepted the outcomes when we may not have liked them and that is what must be expected of anyone standing on a debate stage [ed: like herself]…
[Trump is] denigrating—he’s talking down our democracy. I for one am appalled that somebody who is the nominee of one of our major two parties would take that kind of position.
And this is from Hillary’s concession speech on Nov 9, 2016:
Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans…
We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But I still believe in America and I always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead…
…if we stand together and work together with respect for our differences, strength in our convictions and love for this nation, our best days are still ahead of us.
So far so good, right? But now from the new book “Shattered”:
That strategy [of blaming Russia, thus de-legitimizing the election – or trying to] had been set within twenty-four hours of her concession speech. Mook and Podesta assembled her communications team at the Brooklyn headquarters to engineer the case that the election wasn’t entirely on the up-and-up. For a couple of hours, with Shake Shack containers littering the room, they went over the script they would pitch to the press and the public. Already, Russian hacking was the centerpiece of the argument.
I added the emphasis – so that those who have eyes, may see.
Fight the power, damn it! Look in the mirror and repeat after me:
I’m uniquely blessed with moral insights from somewhere – definitely not God.
And everyone else is wrong.
Based on how Chuck Schumer, Tom Perez, and Nancy Pelosi are running the Democrat Caucus, it seems the Democrats will continue to follow Mr. Schilchter’s advice: “Avoid any and all introspection, keep blaming the Russians and ramping up the contempt for Middle America.”
