  1. Well notice though that it is still a FEMA failure not an Obama failure.

And of course they don’t notice to now because to notice sooner would have meant Obama might not get reelected.

Of course I am of the opinion that Bush was unfairly blamed for Katrina and to put much blame in Obama’s lap would be to unfairly blame him. Hurricanes are devastating and clean up can take a long time and FEMA isn’t a magic-fix it all now-organization and was never designed as such.

  2. It’s more than a little bit scary when you recognize the ability of the MSM to influence the perceptions of Americans as to the truth of what is going on. Before Katrina hit Navy and Coast Guard ships positioned off the coast, MREs and water were stockpiled in the Superdome, FEMA positioned medical teams and specialized personnel outside New Orleans, and aircraft were positioned to assess damage and carry out rescues. After the storm hit the responders carried out the largest post-war air rescue ever. A constant stream of helicopters ferried survivors out of flooded areas to safety. And yet the meme that Katrina was a failure of leadership saturated the news and talk shows for months. It was a politically motivated false narrative then just like the Sandy narrative now.

  3. My fellow Staten Islanders are not just fed up with FEMA/Obama. Petitions are making the rounds with a goal of getting local city and state pols to resign due to a vaccum of competence at any level.

  4. The breadth and intensity of the media’s false narratives (always to support Big Government / left-wing politics) is infuriating, and a little frightening.

I’m not sure what to do about it. I know that, to some extent, people like being lied to by the media because it reinforces their prejudices, makes them feel part of something, etc. Which suggests at that point that the forces of sanity must somehow revolutionize the media, i.e. take it over. I don’t know how to do that.

    Comment by ILoveCapitalism — December 7, 2012 @ 2:09 pm - December 7, 2012

  5. So the problem with Katrina was that it killed almost 2,000 people. Also, when it came time for George Bush to introduce the person that was in charge of the federal government’s emergency response, it turned out that this person was a horse lawyer by trade who had no experience in emergency relief prior to his appointment.

Remember that just before Hurricane Katrina, Bush nominated Harriet Meirs to the Supreme Court. He appointed Alberto Gonzales to be his Attorney General earlier in the year. Iraq was still spiraling at this point, thanks in no small part to the Bush administration’s tendency to ship out recently-graduated ideologues with no relevant experience to fill incredibly important positions during the occupation.

You’ll notice a trend emerging here. When conservatives run government, they become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Of course government isn’t going to function well when you’re giving all the top jobs to people that are absurdly inexperienced and out of their element. I agree that the state and local guys failed during Katrina, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that the guy Bush tapped to coordinate the federal response was effectively learning on the job.

Sorry people, but Obama’s running a tighter ship than that, and it shows.

I’ll also grant that Obama, and future Presidents, will all benefit from coming after Hurricane Katrina. That was a pretty big wake-up cal,l and no politician wants to get caught with his pants down when it comes to hurricanes.

  6. Shorter Levi. “What problem? He’s not Bush!”

Now hush Levi, the adults are talking.

    Comment by The_Livewire — December 7, 2012 @ 2:55 pm - December 7, 2012

  7. Poor, Levi. He thinks he can baffle those of us who are actually living through the Sandy aftermath with propaganda that has no basis in fact. So far, the reality is that Obama has lied about “being there” for Sandy survivors and his two photo ops were just that, photo ops.

    Comment by Richard Bell — December 7, 2012 @ 3:06 pm - December 7, 2012

  8. So the problem with Katrina was that it killed almost 2,000 people.

Which was entirely Katrina’s fault, and/or the fault of any people who were advised to evacuate and didn’t. Not Bush’s.

Remember that just before Hurricane Katrina, Bush nominated Harriet Meirs to the Supreme Court.

OMG. What does that have to do with anything? Anything?! Do you have any idea how many complete dumbasses (far worse than Myers) Obama has nominated?

Obama’s -not in any way- running a tighter ship than that

    FIFY

  9. The child’s obsession with President Bush is truly amazing, ILC.

I wonder if President Bush killed his puppy or something.

  10. OMG. What does that have to do with anything? Anything?! Do you have any idea how many complete dumbasses (far worse than Myers) Obama has nominated?

I explained that. Bush was appointing people to high-level positions in the federal government that had no business being there. It just so happens that right as the country was being introduced to “Heckuva Job” Brownie, Bush was also trying to clutter up the Supreme Court and the DOJ with morons. And Iraq went south so hard and so fast for the same reasons – Bush was handing out jobs and appointments to his buddies, yes-men, and young ideologues with no relevant experience. I’ll freely admit that we had a chance to do something with the reconstruction of Iraq, but Bush pissed it all away because he blew it with the staffing.

It makes sense, really. Do conservatives, who claim that the government is always interfering, making problems worse, and getting in the way, truly want the best and brightest calling the shots? I daresay that demonstrating some basic competency might give people the wrong idea about government’s ability to solve problems and help people, and that’s never a good thing! No, better to fill all these vacancies and appointments with your friends, like you’re a teenager, and then when it all blows up in your face you can blame the media or Barney Frank or whatever.

That’s Republican government for you – setting the bar super low during the campaign by talking about how crappy the government does its job, than proving it after the election by doing a crappy job!

Obama’s team has not been nearly as dogged by scandal as Bush’s – oh wait that’s because of the liberal media bias ain’t it? (I’m rolling my eyes.)

  11. I explained that. Bush was appointing people to high-level positions in the federal government that had no business being there.

Which would be relevant if you were similarly criticizing Obama appointees, but you’re not, because you’re an ignorant racist who believes that Obama’s black skin makes him an idiot who can’t be held to the standards of smarter white men like George W. Bush.

The simple fact is, Levi, you are an unhinged and bigoted partisan who is screaming that anyone appointed by Bush is “unqualified” regardless of their qualifications, but who will endorse and support anyone appointed by Obama, regardless of THEIR qualifications.

    Comment by North Dallas Thirty — December 7, 2012 @ 4:17 pm - December 7, 2012

  12. Of course, what we see again here is the insane lies and bigotry of the childish fool Levi, who is clearly obsessed with blaming Bush to cover up the failures of his Barack Obama.

That’s because the deluded Levi is a mental case who cannot criticize his Obama. For example, Levi shrieked and cried about warrantless wiretaps and demanded that Bush be impeached over them — yet insists that the quadrupling of them under the Barack Obama administration is wonderful and perfect, and that anyone who criticizes it is doing so out of racism.

The child is unhinged. He’s too much of a coward to answer, and he’s too brainwashed and helpless to admit that he is a racist who gives Obama all sorts of mulligans based on his belief that black-skinned people are inferior and need special help.

    Comment by Levi — December 7, 2012 @ 3:55 pm – December 7, 2012

    Yup.

Because, Levi, as I pointed out, you and the media screamed that warrantless wiretapping was a “scandal”, and yet say absolutely nothing when Obama does it four times as often.

That really is the point. You insist that everything Bush did was a scandal, and you insist that Obama doing worse is just awesome and wonderful and anyone who opposes it is a racist.

You and your fellow “progressives” are cultists. You have lost any ability whatsoever to differentiate between right and wrong or apply principles objectively because you are so desperate to hate Bush and worship Barack Obama as your Lord and Messiah.

    Comment by North Dallas Thirty — December 7, 2012 @ 4:26 pm - December 7, 2012

  14. I repeat myself: Levi insists that Bush’s warrantless wiretapping was due to his appointing nothing but incompetent subordinates.

Now Obama is doing four times as much warrantless wiretapping, yet Levi insists that all Obama’s appointees are super-competent and never doing anything wrong.

Why can’t the cultist reconcile his statements? Why won’t the cultist call for Obama’s impeachment over “criminal” wiretapping like he did for Bush?

    Comment by North Dallas Thirty — December 7, 2012 @ 4:28 pm - December 7, 2012

  15. Oh, and Levi, why do you support, endorse, and elect to high office unpatriotic people who piss in the graves of World War II veterans?

    Comment by North Dallas Thirty — December 7, 2012 @ 4:47 pm - December 7, 2012

  16. Obama’s team has not been nearly as dogged by scandal as Bush’s

Correct. Obama’s team has been MUCH MORE dogged by scandal than Bush’s. Bush’s team never did anything approaching the level of Fast & Furious. Or Benghazi (abandoning Ambassador & soldiers to their deaths and then lying about it, to win an election). Etc.

Your comments are so utterly demented, Levi, it adds entertainment to everyone’s day around here.

  17. “That really is the point. You insist that everything Bush did was a scandal, and you insist that Obama doing worse is just awesome and wonderful and anyone who opposes it is a racist.”

That’s because he secretly loved Bush as president. He loved what he did and is glad that Obama has taken any bad thing that Bush did and is hitting the accelerator. That’s the truth, or so it seems.

Yep, that’s all that they were – photo ops – and shame on Christie for helping with that!

Nope, no scandals under Bush. That whole invading the Middle East thing because they were about to attack us with chemical nuclear bombs? Went off without a hitch. Everything completely above board, and no loss of life!

Why, Bush’s administration was a model of good governance!

  22. Aw look, Levi’s got a strawman!

Try arguing with what someone actually said Levi. We know you cry when your own words are used against you, are you so pathetic you can’t address the points that shred you so easily?

  23. Of course not, Livewire.

Leftist boy Levi is mentally and morally uncapable of holding his Barack Obama responsible for anything, as I pointed out with leftist boy Levi’s endorsement of massive increases in warrantless wiretapping under Obama and Obama’s endorsement and support of millionaire and billionaire tax cheats.

We’re going to see even more of this as the unhinged and desperate little boy tries to destroy Bush in order to make his Obama look even decent by comparison. And we will be smacking him over and over and over and over again with the facts that show how stupid and irrational his devotion to his black-skinned Lord and Messiah Obama is.
