I have spent the last week editing something I wrote seven years ago to prepare it for e-book publication. It’s often very painful, but sometimes, I’ll read a really good part that I had forgotten about.
Writing fiction is supposed to be a form of escapism, but these days, mainstream journalism is also a form of escapism. You have all these pundits and reporters constructing an elaborate fantasy world where Obama is a great and flawless president, the economy is doing “just fine,” and all of our fiscal problems can be solved if the “rich” are just taxed a little more.
Compared to that fantasy, wizards and magic are benign.

Visits to Disneyland are very important, especially when a certain 3 year old demands that you sit next to him on the Pirates ride.

Leah, that demand made my day yesterday–and it already was a very good day! It was as much fun watching the wonder on his face as it was watching the various scenarii.

Dan
Have you thought of introducing a new character to fill the hole in the second chapter. The new character can either enhance the plot or create a sub plot.
