  1. We don’t have to wonder or marvel at 0bamas ability to stay on.
We *know* the MSM is carrying him everywhere he goes. If the MSM was neutral or treated him like they did George Bush- his ratings would be in negative territory.

  3. There is a huge divide in this country as to the role of Government. Many people think “… that the government’s job is to take care of its people.” That doesn’t just mean provide them a safe and secure environment where their liberties are ensured and they have the freedom to live life as they want. It is taking care of them from cradle to grave. Those people are willing to give up freedoms in exchange for the Government taking care of them.

Obama represents those people. Whether it is 47% or 51% of the country I don’t know. Regardless, those people reelected him and now the rest of us are stuck for another 4 years.

  4. Didn’t Biden just say he was president?

@David – while I agree that there are a lot of people who want to be taken care of, I think there’s a lot more to it.

The gun control debate provides a glimpse into the leftist mindset: the government is a tool useful for punishing people you just don’t like. The vitriol isn’t directed at criminals who use guns to commit crimes (could it be because blacks are over represented as perps and victims?) but at law-abiding white males who are supposed to resent becoming a minority.

Occupy Wall Street is beloved by the left while Tea Party people are loathed even though both share many of the same grievances. But Tea Party people just want to be left alone while OWS wants anarcho-tyranny whereby they have no rules but want governmet to do the plundering for them.

    We are spitting into tribes.

  5. David and SCR, I think you’re both right.

The core of the Obama Party is what were called nomenklatura in the Soviet Union: in exchange for loyalty and obedience to the party, they expect to be given key administrative positions in which they can a) lord over others and b) feather their own nests.

And the ways they get people to put them into those positions are promising to a) punish their enemies and b) take stuff from others to give to them.

That’s pretty much it. Barack Obama is really nothing more than a more charismatic Lenin.

  7. SoCalRobert the best explanation of the similarities and differences between OWS and the Tea Parties is like this: Both groups oppose crony capitalism. The Tea Party opposes cronyism, and OWS opposes capitalism.

That is as good a description as any of the faultline in our body politic.
