They don’t have the money for that stuff anymore, not with all the businesses leaving and with more important things like weekly vegetarian meels.

This is because it doesn’t cost any money to ban plastic bags and soda.
It does cost money to fix sidewalks and roads.
Also, you get big headlines if you ban soda, but nobody cares if you budget money to fix a sidewalk.

“Should I have sued the city had I broken a rib?”
In a word, Dan – YES.

Here in the Popular Republic of Joisey Nova, even though the municipality owns the sidewalk in front of your house, the homeowner is legally-required to maintain it his expense, is legally-liable for any injuries there-on, and must keep it clear of snow and ice within 18 hrs. on pain of heavy fines.

In SF I think the city government will claim it is the business or homeowners responsibility to fix uneven sidewalks….if I not mistaken.

Well, you could have sued the tree…

“You can’t make a socialist utopia without breaking a few ribs!”

most cities pay for this via assessments to the landowner / requiring the landowner to maintain the sidewalks themselves.
But, since all you conservative folks are for lower taxes and less/no government, why is this a problem? And how does the little problem of your inconvenience compare with whole towns thare are losing things polie and fire protection?
Further, I’m assuming that no conservative out there wants to drive something like a federal highway, correct? I mean, the Federal highway system was built in large part becuase of the horrific high taxes on the wealthy at the time. That sickening socialism just provides awful results, right?

Ah, nice to see the return of the strawman.
Try reading the initial post Kevin. I know it has multi-syllable words and all. But if you are going to comment, try to keep up.

Yes, but if someone has an accident on the Federal, State or County road in front of your house or business….you don't get personally-sued. But they trip on the municipally-owned sidewalk…you the property-owner get sued for injury and damages.

Yup — towns in which Obama supporters like you, Kevin, put a higher priority on paying outrageous salaries to Obama Party officials than on paying for police and fire protection.
You want both? Pay THEM first. But since you don’t, what we see is that this isn’t about police and fire protection; it’s about you using that as hostages to extort money from taxpayers to pay your outrageous salaries and perks.
You haven’t anything but lies, Kevin. Now run away and demonstrate by your refusal to answer that you can’t.

I agree with Peter; the next time it happens, by all means file a claim with the city if you have a medically-treatable injury. As was said, the municipality that has time & energy for Meatless Mondays has time & energy to come up with a way to repair sidewalks, despite any whining aobut the costs.
And before I read NDT’s comment, I was thinking of the City of Bell; the exhortation to file claim is double for municipalities whcih are mismanaged and divert funds for cronyism.

I don’t think LA is unique, we have broken streets/sidewalks here too. I mean in Outer Mongolia.

Suing is probably the only way you would get the sidewalks fixed.
