The “End” of GayPatriot

No, no, no… calm down!  Our blog isn’t going anywhere!

I decided to move forward with my online and social media “brand” and ditch the “GayPatriot” moniker today.  Dan ditched “GayPatriotWest” a few years ago and I didn’t understand why.  I thought our names were cool and provided an instant recognition of who we were.  But, as usual, Dan was right so I’m following suit today.

Since December 2011, I’ve been striking out on my own as a political, media, grassroots consultant.  Leaving the clutches of Corporate America has been quite liberating and I’ve enjoyed the projects I’ve worked on to date.  I also made a conscious effort to push the “GayPatriot” brand for myself online, especially Twitter.

Well, I think the time is right to promote and grow who I am as a person and a professional — not hide behind a cute and fun nickname.  I’m engaged in a wide variety of endeavors now with the Match Game show, “The Wrap” podcast, and of course professional projects.  Time to grow up!

So from now on – you can find me on Twitter @BruceCarrollSC

PS – NO, I’m not running for office.  Just changing things up a bit!

My absence from the blog/Open Thread

I regret not having had the occasion to blog for quite a few days now. And do hope to chime in again soon.*

I have heard also that while Bruce has not been blogging much recently, he has been tweeting up a storm. And since I am not on twitter, I am not aware of the content of his many tweets, though have heard rumor of several.

Please note that if you wish to opine on his tweets, you should contact him, not me. He is responsible for his own words. For though I do blog at GayPatriot, I am not GayPatriot. That title belongs to Bruce and Bruce alone.

Now that I have spoken, have it in the comments. Let that section be our open thread. And be civil. Even as I urge you to express yourselves, respect those whom you criticize, address their arguments don’t insult their persons.

*ADDENDUM: A number of things, mostly involving my book, but also involving my family has kept me from blogging. As to the family, it’s mostly good things, with a beloved niece and cousins visiting Southern California.

My new post is up at Ricochet.  Here’s a preview.

So we have spent over $500 BILLION in taxpayer money over the past five years and we STILL have children going hungry?  Really?  How is this possible?  Who is wasting this money?  I can eat very well for about $1,500 a year.  And I’m borderline fat.

Federal Employee in NC Told To Exaggerate Sequester Impact

From my other editorial venture,…

The latest actor in the drama known as sequestration is none other than Charlie Brown.  Actually, it’s Charles Brown, an official with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) office in Raleigh, N.C.

Mr. Brown sent an email to his superiors at the US Agriculture Department in Washington, DC, asking “if there was any latitude” in how he should spread the sequester cuts across his region to lessen the impacts on fish inspections.  Mr. Brown’s response from DC is now making national headlines.

A leaked memo to the Charlotte Observer on Thursday night has political watchers’ tongues wagging across North Carolina today.

Read all about it, here at – North Carolina.

UPDATE: Charlotte Observer is now reporting that the leaked memo may jeopardize Blueprint NC’s funding by it’s largest donor.

Leslie Winner, executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, said she was “surprised and disappointed” by the actions of Blueprint North Carolina.

“(Z. Smith Reynolds) believes in robust debate on issues of public importance, (it) does not support attacking people,” Winner said. “We were disappointed to learn that Blueprint is advocating this strategy…

“We are taking this seriously. We are determining our options and our obligations. We will get to the bottom of it.”

The Foundation is providing $400,000 of Blueprint’s nearly $1 million budget, Winner said.

North Carolina Suffering High Unemployment & High UI Tax Burden

My latest post is up at Watchdog Wire – North Carolina.

Business owners in the state of North Carolina have been increasingly feeling the crush of the cost of unemployment taxes following the economic collapse in 2008.

Small businesses have been especially hard hit in keeping up with this tax burden as the rolls of the unemployed have swelled to record numbers.

Hopefully for the Schulz’s and other employers in the Tarheel State, the General Assembly is poised to take quick action.

North Carolina – The Next Obamacare Battleground

2013 is shaping up as a big year for me so far.

In addition to hosting duties at MatchGame Monday Night and The GayPatriot Report on The 405 Radio Network, I’m also the new editor of Watchdog Wire, North Carolina.   Watchdog Wire is “a place for citizen journalists to connect with other like-minded people in their area and across the nation. It will also serve as a platform to post original content on issues that are often ignored by the media.”

My first article at Watchdog Wire-NC is now up…. please read and let me know your thoughts.

Over the next 30 days, North Carolina is expected to become the site for the next battle over President Obama’s signature legislation, the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Former Gov. Bev Purdue had begun to implement the state-based exchanges under the ACA, however the newly sworn-in Republican Gov. Pat McCrory has put on hold those plans, at least for now.

Housekeeping post:
Dan does (most of) the blogging, Bruce does all of the tweeting

Posted by B. Daniel Blatt at 1:21 pm - October 17, 2012.
Filed under: Blogging,Bruce's Outside Posts,New Media

A couple days ago, Bruce forwarded a tweet where a friend of mine from my DC days praised Bruce thinking he and I were the same person. On Monday, at our LA dinner, one reader who joined us thought I was doing all the GayPatriot tweeting.  These are not the first times we’ve been confused.

Earlier today, Bruce alerted me to the change in his “handle” on this blog, he’s now “Bruce – @GayPatriot”.  He hopes this will remind people of his twitter ID.  So, until I join Twitter, if you see a GayPatriot tweet, it’s Bruce.  And when you read posts here, they are more likely to be mine, but a few will be Bruce’s (and a handful Nick’s).  Make sure to check the byline.

Although Bruce and I often agree on matters political, we have different ways of expressing ourselves.  Neither of us should be held responsible for what the other says.  🙂

This is awesome.  Jimmy Fallon, who debuts as the new host of “Late Night” on NBC, is a big Tweeter user.

Here is a preview of the premiere of the show from Jimmy’s perspective onstage at 30 Rock.  He just posted this pic a few minutes ago.

Don’t forget to join and follow me at Twitter, too!
