A Very Stupid Take on the Transgender Culture Wars at NRO

J.J. McCullugh at NRO, says cultural conservatives need to embrace the transgender social movement, because he says, if we are willing to accept the transgendereds, the left will respond in kind by backing off on their authoritarian social agenda.

Fat chance.

McCullough, probably because he thinks it lends him credibility, creates a straw man conservative and then knocks it down.

Part one of the compromise will be borne by cultural conservatives and traditionalists. It asks for broad tolerance for the reality that transgender men and women exist, and are entitled to basic human dignity, just like everyone else.

What Cultural Conservative is saying they are not? Even those of us who note that transgenderism very often walks hand-in-back-pocket with mental illness aren’t demanding that transgendered be deprived of “basic human dignity.” We question how “basic human dignity” is achieved through chemical and surgical mutilation of an otherwise healthy body. We object to the demands made by activist that we be punished for not learning the politically correct pronouns, or let people who are biologically not the sex they claim to identify as into locker rooms, toilets, and dressing room.

Then, for the next part, he makes a demand on the social left that is laughably unrealistic.

But part two of the compromise requires sacrifice on the part of progressives, who are currently overplaying their hand in an effort to strong-arm sweeping social change as a flex of their power. There must be a halt in the use of state authority to impose accommodation of transgenderism in a fashion far more totalitarian than is rationally  justified.

McCullugh doesn’t understand that 1. the social left *never* compromises and 2. “the use of state authority to impose” totalitarian social ends is what the social left is all about these days.  And after they’ve bludgeoned society into submission on transgendereds… without making any compromises… they’ll just move onto the next victim group and push for even more restrictions on the rights and freedoms of others.

The social left didn’t quit on gay marriage once five supreme court justices made it the law of the land. No, they went on to demand that the Government coerce people (bakers, photographers, florists) into participating in gay weddings even when they didn’t want to.

There are groups and individuals whose entire livelihood is caught up in the Victimhood Industrial Complex. They’re not going to fold up their tents and get real jobs just because conservatives concede anything to them.

Good grief

I’m a lesbian. My fiancee is a trans woman. Were trying to have a baby the old-fashioned way. Its complicated

Over the last several months, I’ve spent evenings watching my fiancée, Lara, inject herself with smaller and smaller doses of estrogen. I’ve watched her stand in front of a mirror, singeing each hair out of her face with a secondhand electrolysis machine.

The return of her testosterone hasn’t resulted in just the resurgence of facial hair; her pants now fit differently, too. My own skin has been plagued by acne since I got off the pill six months ago, and my default states are angry, hungry or sleeping. Such are the perils of trying to have a child the way Lara and I are trying, without in vitro fertilization, or cryogenically frozen sperm. The way fertile cisgender people do: They simply couple up, and boom — a child is born.

The first gender clinic for children opened in Boston in 2007. In the past ten years, more than 30 clinics for children with purported gender dysphoria have arisen in the United States alone, the largest serving 725 patients.

Doctors are being trained in cadaver symposiums across the world in all manner of surgeries related to transgender individuals, including phalloplasty, vaginoplasty, facial feminization surgery, urethral procedures, and more. More and more American corporations are covering transgender surgeries, drugs, and other expenses. Endocrinologists seeking the fountain of youth in hormones for more than a generation, and the subsequent earnings for marketing those hormones, are still on a quest for gold.

Puberty blockers are another growing market.

Will this be counted as a transphobic hate crime when the SPLC cooks up their annual batch of statistics?

A researcher has been barred form studying the after-effects of sex-reaasignment surgery, because the university was afraid the results of the study might contradict the Settled Narrative on transgenderism.

A researcher has been refused permission to study cases of people who have surgery to reverse gender reassignment by a university that said it risked generating controversy on social media sites.

The proposal was rejected with an explanation noting that it was a potentially “politically incorrect” piece of research and could lead to material being posted online that “may be detrimental to the reputation of the institution”.

Because it would be just awful for the Settled Narrative if it were discovered there were detrimental effects to treating gender dysphoria through chemical and surgical mutilation.

This Is Not the Way We Have Been Told It Was Supposed to Work

A twelve year old boy in Australia told his parents he was “transgendered” and wanted to be a girl. So, doing what enlightened progressive parents are supposed to do, they started him on hormone therapy to begin chemically mutilating his body into a crude facsimile of the opposite sex. What happened next was not supposed to happen.

An Australian schoolboy who decided to transition into a female has changed his mind two years later.

At just 12-years-old, Patrick Mitchell, begged with his mother to begin taking oestrogen hormones after doctors diagnosed him with gender dysphoria — a condition where a person experiences distress because there is a mismatch between their biological sex and gender identity.

After heeding advice from professionals who suggested that it was right choice, his mother was fully supportive and Mitchell began to transition.

He grew out his hair and started to take the hormones, which caused his body to grow breasts. But two years on, Mitchell had a change of heart.

In the beginning of 2017, teachers at school began to refer to him as a girl which triggered Mitchell to question if he had made the right decision.

“I began to realise I was actually comfortable in my body. Every day I just felt better,” he told Now To Love.

Maybe the caring adults in this kid’s life should have sought out mental health resources to help learn to love and accept his physical body. Gender dysphoria is, after all, a condition of the mind, not the body.

Especially among children, whom adults don’t trust to make any serious life choices unless there is a sexual proclivity attached to them. Adults don’t trust children to take an Ibuprofen tablet when they have a headache; but they are allowed unrestricted access to abortions and body altering hormones.

Transgenderism, uniquely among identity disorders, is treated by indulging the delusions of the person that their body is something other than it really is. We don’t treat people who feel they should be disabled by disabling them. We don’t treat anorexic people by helping them starve. We don’t treat people who think they’re Joan of Arc by burning them at the stake.

I think the  reason… the reason no one will admit to… is because unlike those other disorders, transgenderism is considered sexy and kinky. I have no proof, it’s just a feeling. Progressives identify with transsexuals because it seems like a kinky fetish. They’re into that.

And there are real world consequences to treating transgender dysmorphia like a disorder of the body instead of the mind. Suicide rates among post-operative transgendered people attest to this. But the point is, progressive societies are less concerned with helping people with body identity disorders than they are about feeling good about their feelings… and getting turned on.

Death by Misplaced Compassion

A British transgender teen killed herself, supposedly because the school wouldn’t let her change her name.

A transgender teenager who killed himself “was angry with [his] school” after it refused to grant him permission to officially change his name, an inquest into his death has heard.
Leo Etherington had come out at home and at school – but teachers at Wycombe high school, an all-girls grammar school, told the 15-year-old that he could not change his name on the register for another year.
Giving evidence at an inquest into his son’s death, Martin Etherington said: “The school told him he had to be 16 to change his name. He said he was angry with the school.

I’m sorry, but if the kid offed herself over that… for that matter… couldn’t wait a few months … I don’t think you can call this a case of “bigotry-caused suicide.” That is, apparently, what you are supposed to think it is.

I wonder if the adults in this teenager’s life recognized the profound psychological problems she was obviously struggling with? Were they afraid to confront her for fear of being called bigots or H8Rs? Perhaps, losing their jobs and being publicly stigmatized for their ‘Hate Crime?” Or, were they merely blinded by the glow of their own virtue signaling as they praised Louise for her ‘courage’ and added ‘Transgender Teen’ to their collection of human Pokémon?

The politically correct belief is that the way to treat gender dysphoria is by indulging the sufferer’s delusion that they should be the opposite sex; that surgical and chemical mutilation of their body into a crude facsimile of the other sex will reconcile mind and body and resolve the disorder. What if this thinking is wrong? What if gender dysphoria is just a symptom or manifestation of more profound psychological issues that a sex-change merely papers over?

Land of Confusion

The mister and I were in Home Depot the other day looking at light fixtures, and an HD employee came up and did the old, “Can I help you find something?”

Said employee had long lustrous hair, a build like a high school middle linebacker, tiny boobs and a deep voice. We both thought (as we discussed in the car later) “Tranny,” but what-to-what we weren’t quite sure. So, what pronoun were we to use, should it come up? Fortunately it didn’t come up.

But I also wonder what if this person wasn’t even a Transgenderina? What if it was just a woman who had been genetically sideswiped? Or what if she was like someone I knew in college who, although female and straight, had a deep voice and a masculine build as a result of steroid treatments she had been given in puberty to fight cancer. If so, would she be offended if I assumed she was a Transgenderina?

This California “Use the Wrong Pronoun, Go to Prison” thing is a minefield. How is anyone supposed to read someone else’s mind and know how to offend them; when even asking them could potentially offend them.

A California school decided to celebrate when one its students “bravely” decided to go transgender. In fact, the teachers and administrators arranged a class party, where the dressed as a little girl, and teachers explained that all of his classmates had to indulge his transgender cosplay and treat “her” as a girl from then on.

It was a kindergarten class.

It. Was. A. Kindergarten. Class.
No one notified parents. And apparently some of the little rugrats came home terrified that their own sexes can suddenly change without notice.

The teacher defended her decision to read two children’s books about transgenderism including one titled “I am Jazz.” She says the books were given to her by a transgender child going through a transition.

“The kindergartners came home very confused, about whether or not you can pick your gender, whether or not they really were a boy or a girl,” said England.

Parents say besides the books, the transgender student at some point during class also changed clothes and was revealed as her true gender.

All this to satisfy the egos of some virtue-signaling progressive dimwit adults.

Friday night odds and ends

It amazes me how many legit stories I have to skip over each day, for brevity or lack of time. As I made the following list, I skipped over many other worthwhile items.

  • 53 House Democrats told Defense Secretary Mattis to not comply with the transgender ban.

“We write to not only express our strong opposition to President Trump’s recent tweets seeking to ban transgender individuals from the military, but to remind you not to comply with any unconstitutional directive which may ultimately be issued,” according to the letter, which was signed by Armed Services ranking member Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., and Judiciary ranking member Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich.

  • Attorney General Sessions is finally going to look into all those leaks.

Session said criminals who have leaked classified information are “being investigated and will be prosecuted.” He added that four people have already been charged with leaking classified material and related counts, and investigations have tripled.

Sessions said he has directed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and new FBI Director Christopher Wray to oversee all classified leak investigations and actively monitor the progress.

He said a new counterintelligence unit has been created to manage cases, and he has directed the National Security Division and U.S. attorneys to prioritize cases involving unauthorized disclosures.

There’s some brouhaha over more aggressive subpoenas on reporters, but they’re still mainly going after the actual leakers. Which is right.

  • AG Sessions is finally going to look at Obama’s government slush fund for left-wing groups.

…[The DOJ’s] “cy pres” payments were a long-standing policy of having mostly corporate defendants, for example in a civil rights suit, agree to pay into charities as part of their settlement with the government to avoid further prosecution.

In recent years, especially during the Obama administration, the practice increasingly funneled funds to left-wing “community organizing” groups…

…Sessions…put a stop to the payments unilaterally in June…The new memo, dated July 28, goes further, commanding DOJ attorneys to look back into the history of these settlements and report back every payment that would not meet the new standards laid down in June.

  • The rumors of NSA McMaster having a ‘purge list’ have made it into the White House staff, rattling them.
  • Alex Jones and Mike Cernovich got wild today with talk of the Deep State planning to outright-assassinate Trump, which could seem like irresponsible speculation, until you see stories like this one: Maxine Waters says ‘When We Finish With Trump, We Have to Go and Get’ Pence.

A coup isn’t being planned, could never happen here, that’s ridiculous, don’t spread horrible rumors you liars…..Folks, should we go with that idea? Or: leading Democrats are telling the military to disobey President Trump (see first item, above) and already looking forward to phase 2 of the coup, ‘Get Pence’? Which is it?

I hope to do a post later on the week’s Awan Scandal news.

This is one perspective, and I know of no reason it should be considered illegitimate. I tend to agree that the reason for forcing the military to accept transgendered people is an emotional one. “It’s not fair!” is the tantrum-cry of a spoiled child, not a reason-based argument. To me, the question is whether the military will be better at its primary mission if transgendered people are in it. That should be the only question in consideration of what the rules ought to be.

At the link, Caitlyn Jenner defends President Trump and expresses a belief in limited government and making the U.S. a better place to do business.

Of course I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I’m glad to see Jenner saying sensible political things to a left-leaning audience. On the other hand, I know that Jenner has willingly served as either a source, or at least a mascot, for some of the rather foolish Transgender Fever that has swept America in the last year or two.

As to transgenders in general: I’m glad when they stand up for their legitimate rights as any human should – for example, practicing self-defense skills with Pink Pistols – and, I’m not glad when adult biological men think they have a right to impose their brand of political correctness on others, take over girls’ bathrooms, etc.

Overall, file this one under “People Are Complex”.

Pity the lesbian whose partner decided to jump on the trendier Transgender train.

What does an almost forty-year-old, out and proud lesbian do when her partner comes out as a transgender male? I don’t really know. I can only tell you what this lesbian chose to do: I chose to stay. I chose to stay because, when I really got honest, if Simon was a boy, he’d always been a boy, whether I’d acknowledged it or not.

I chose to stay because Simon is brave, kind, honest and loving ways in ways that Amy could never quite muster up the openness, the transparency, to be. I chose to stay to honor the family that we created together. I chose to stay because I can’t imagine my life without him.

When I begin to overanalyze what staying with Simon means for my lesbian identity, I get a little panicked. Losing the lesbian label feels a bit like losing part of myself.

Hey, you got attention out of it, and accolades for being “so brave.” Count it as a win.
