A Blow to the Narrative

The Narrative that Omar Mateen chose ‘The Pulse’ nightclub for his massacre out of anti-gay bigotry (or, alternately, because he was a closeted homo) seems to be at odds with what the investigation revealed.

Much of the evidence regarding Mateen’s motives has remained under seal and thus unavailable for public review. But this afternoon, Salman’s lawyers filed a motion to preclude the admissibility of certain evidence and, in doing so, provided a meaningful glimpse into many of the facts that are clearly at odds with the long-standing, prevailing view that Mateen’s motive, at least in part, was to attack a gay club and murder LGBTs. That includes searches on Mateen’s phones during the week of the attack in which he was attempting to choose his target by searching generically for soft targets in the form of popular tourist locations or simply “nightclubs, Orlando” — not “gay nightclubs” or “LGBT clubs.”

By repeatedly emphasizing this anti-gay motive, U.S. media reports had the effect, if not the intent, of obscuring what appears to have been Mateen’s overriding, arguably exclusive motive: a desire for retribution and deterrence toward U.S. violence in Muslim countries.

So, he wasn’t an “Anti-Gay Hate Crime,” and the massacre at Pulse was not proof of “America’s Homophobic Conservative Culture” as reported by CNN, ABC NewsTime, Esquire, Slate, the Chicago Tribune, the Huffingpaint Post, the UK Telegraph, the UK Independent, and … naturally… the New York Times.  No, it was just an Islamic Supremacist who set out to murder infidels as the Quran instructs.

Hey, and remember, the FBI interviewed Omar Mateen twice and decided he wasn’t a threat.

Oh, here’s a picture of Omar’s dad at a Hillary Clinton campaign event a few weeks after his massacre.

Mike Pence Derangement Syndrome

The dingbat who wrote The Handmaid’s Tale says that VP Mike Pence is the theocratic dictator she had in mind when she wrote her stupid book.

Also, at the Osrics, host Jimmy Kimmel said that Hollywood makes movies to deliberately offend Mike Pence. (He was referring to a movie in which a gay man played by an actor in his thirties grooms a high school boy for a sexual relationship.)

And then, there were the Olympic skate-queens who made the Olympic games all about bashing Mike Pence a couple of weeks ago.

It’s as though the Democrat Left feels a need to remind everyone… it isn’t just Donald Trump they hate. They hate mainstream Republicans just as much. Also, Christians.

FYI: Shannon Watts used to be a lobbyist for Monsanto. Now, she heads up an anti-gun group funded by Mike Bloomberg. And apparently likes to lecture Jewish women like Bethany Mandel who have received threats from actual Nazis they shouldn’t own a gun because “white privilege.”

This one is also pretty bad, although I don’t know who this Ryan Butcher person is. Shows where the left is… as a people.

The Iranian Regime that murders gay people by hanging (for just being gay) and stones women to death for being accused of adultery has weighed in on America’s gun control debate. And they are on the anti-gun side, of course.

In US, 100s are killed every week by homicide for no crime,—no reason—not at the hands of police, as US police brutality is a separate issue. The accessibility of guns leads to homicide; it’s created problems for a country like US, everyone admits, fears, & is concerned about it.

No one dares apply the clear solution to the promotion of guns and homicide in America. What’s the solution? It’s to make guns illegal.

Gun companies are so powerful that House representatives and U.S. senators don’t dare pass prohibition of guns.

That last sentence is almost a straight lift from the Democrat Anti-Gun Talking Points Memo. Congratulations, anti-gun Democrats. The thugs of the world agree with you.

Did I Miss Anything?

So, that thing gay people watch was on last night. What’s it called? The Osrics, or something? I’ve never watched an Osric broadcast in my entire life, and I’m sure not about to start now.

So, tell me… were there a lot of smug people in expensive outlets congratulating each other over how awesome they all were? Were there overtly political speeches? Did the smug overdressed people hoot for the political speeches?  Was there hypocritical grandstanding about sexual harassment? Were awards given to pretentious, mediocre films that played to the left-wing sensibilities of Hollywood deciders?

You don’t need to answer. The scientific instrument has not yet been made with sufficient granularity to assess my indifference.

(So why are you writing about it? Because shut up, that’s why.)

Hollywood actor says his new TV show will really put Trump in his place by featuring a gay lead character.

Alan Cumming thinks his new show, which portrays the first gay leading character on a network drama, could not be coming at a better time.

“I really do applaud everyone at CBS for having the courage to put [this] on right now in the kind of climate where you might not think to do that.

I really don’t think PDT will be quaking in his boots about this, but I am glad that, finally, someone is addressing the serious shortage of gay people on TV.

PDT Shows His Authoritarian Streak

So, during one of his series of televised discussions on gun control, PDT said this:

“Take the guns first, go through due process second.”

PDT is wrong. (See, we can criticize Trump when he’s wrong. Unlike the Democrats and the god-king Obama who swears that none of his many, many scandals embarrassed him. Unlike the Democrats and Bill Clinton, who got to #MeToo all the women he wanted in return for keeping abortion legal.) Due process is essential. Before the Government strips you of a civil right, it better be able to demonstrate a damned good reason and give you a chance to argue that their reason is horse-sh-t. And it isn’t that hard to get a judge to issue a warrant or a restraining order, as the FISA courts (99.9% of surveillance requests approved) demonstrate. There is no reason to treat law-abiding gun owners like they were college men accused of rape by bitter crazy ex-girlfriends.

PDT is just playing to the ignorant hysteria about guns the media have whipped up. Hysteria and overreaction lead to bad policy choices. Ask any Japanese-American who lived on the west coast in 1942; or anyone whose been groped by a high-school dropout working for the TSA; or these two guys.

Speaking of contempt for due process, Senator Susan Collins has revived the even-more-terrible idea of putting the No-Fly List onto the NICS database so that no one on the No-Fly list can buy a gun. A refresher: The No-Fly list is:

1. A Government list of people who are barred from flying for reasons the Government will not divulge; the criteria are secret and arbitrary.
2. Once on the list, there is no recourse. You can try and get your name removed at considerable legal expense, but it’s very difficult because the Government will argue it can’t tell you its reasons for putting you on the list because of ‘National Security.’
3. If you have the same name as someone on the list, you may also be on the list for that reason alone.

BTW, none of this new proposed legislation will work unless law enforcement actually uses it. The violent headcase in Parkland could have been arrested and detained on numerous occasions and charged with offenses (domestic violence; terroristic threats) that would have flagged him in the NICS database. But local law enforcement and the FBI didn’t bother.

Logically, the demonstrated failure of law enforcement at its most basic functions clearly indicates the need for civilians to have the means of their own defense.

John “Jesus Told Me to Impose Obamacare” Kasich and Arnold “When You Finish with the Dusting, There’s One Other Thing I Need You To Do” Schwarzenegger have teamed up to save the California Republican Party.

The pair will deliver speeches and participate in panels on March 21 in Los Angeles at an event for New Way California, a group formed by Assemblyman Chad Mayes (R-Yucca Valley).

“They will be focused on reminding the Republican Party we need them to be successful, but in order to be successful, they need to choose policies and messaging that helps them grow rather than continue to shrink,” said Daniel Ketchell, a spokesman for Schwarzenegger.

New Way California, according to their Twitter feed, supports Democrat positions on illegal immigration, global warming, state-run health care, and gun control. They have 705 Followers.

This Is What Democracy Looks Like

The wolves have voted: The sheep are to become dinner.

South Africa’s parliament on Tuesday passed a motion brought by the radical left party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), to carry out land expropriation without compensation, a key pillar of the ruling ANC government and new President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The motion, which would include a review of the constitution, was brought by leader of the EFF Julius Malema and was passed by an overwhelming majority of 241 votes in favour versus 83 votes against the proposal.

The justification for the law is, of course, peace, justice, and equality.

“For a lasting peace‚ security and justice‚ land must be expropriated without compensation for equal redistribution. “

There’s a joke that goes “What’s the difference between South Africa and Zimbabwe? About ten years.” Turns out, it wasn’t a joke.

Dianne Feinstein No Longer Left-Wing Enough for California

Posted by V the K at 10:03 am - February 26, 2018.

The grass-roots Democratic activists gathered at the party’s annual convention in San Diego this weekend implicitly rebuked the state’s senior U.S. senator by denying her the party’s endorsement for her re-election bid.Feinstein finished far behind de León, the top Democrat in the state Senate. De León received 54 percent of delegates’ votes to just 37 percent for Feinstein. It takes 60 percent to receive an endorsement.

This is a woman who was once mayor of San Francisco, who has argued for the confiscation of guns from law-abiding gun owners, and whose lifetime ACU rating is under 10%. (Meaning she has voted conservatively less than 10% of the time.)

But Kevin de Leon is an even bigger anti-gun zealot, a man so far left he introduced environmental regulation so radical (banning all fossil fuels in California) not even the hard-left Democrat legislature would go for it. (Probably because existing renewable energy bills have already made California’s electric bills look like Michigan’s car insurance premiums. Worse, actually.

California is now the land of Gavin Newsom, Kevin de Leon, Kamala Harris, and Ted Lieu; people so far left they have to look over their right shoulder to see Jerry Brown.

Thirty years of unchecked illegal and mass legal immigration (27% of California’s population was born outside the USA) has transformed California from Reagan Conservative to the most radically crazy far-left state in the country.

Oddly enough, I have yet to see a single editorial complaining about that leftward radicalization of the Democrat Party. Not one. Ever.

Which is exactly why Democrats are so adamant that mass immigration from the Third World must continue.  And why most Americans have a “Bye, Felicia” attitude toward California secession.

“Silence is violence… also, those we disagree with should be silenced.” (HT: PJW)

Honestly, I don’t get white supremacy because this picture demonstrates how truly effing stupid white people can be.

I Don’t Get People

I know this guy who I respect in most areas. He’s very level-headed, has a very responsible job in which lives and millions of dollars of property can be affected by the decisions he makes. He’s very intelligent, well-traveled, educated… all the things, okay.

So, a couple of years ago he got involved in a relationship with a guy who had… let’s be polite… an “addiction problem.” Well, said addiction problem led to other problems which led to them breaking up.

After the break-up, the guy with the addiction problem stalked him, both physically and in cyberspace, leading to a restraining order and the level-headed guy selling his house and moving so that addiction problem couldn’t find him. Addiction problem stalked him anyway all the time shit-posting about him in social media.

Well, last month, addiction problem completed rehab (not for the first time) and level-headed guy immediately… took him back and let him move back in.

I concede there’s maybe more to the story than this, but that just seems like a bad decision. I can see taking someone back into your life after they work through some problems, but I’d want some time, at least, to make sure they had actually fixed themselves.

Maybe I lack Christ-like compassion. I really don’t know.

Some high school students and Louisiana saw another student draw a square root symbol as part of a math problem. (Below). Thinking it resembled a gun, they flew into a panic and called police. Police went to the math student’s home and searched it. I am not making this up.

My actual favorite part of this story is how the reporter felt it necessary to explain, “the symbol, which represents a number that when multiplied by itself equals another number.”

You’ll be relieved to know the police found nothing more threatening than algebra homework. The student may still face disciplinary action at the school though. Update: The school is moving to expel the student who drew the square root symbol.

Oh, and some idiots in the Seattle area freaked out and called the media to report that a neighbor was flying a Confederate flag. It was the flag of Norway. I only wish I were making that up.

“You Don’t Need a Gun, the Police Will Protect You”

Meh, not so much.

The police officer assigned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School resigned Thursday, under investigation for failing to enter the building as a gunman opened fire and killed 17 people.

So, this armed cop stayed outside and did nothing while the violent headcase was slaughtering the sons and daughters of the taxpayers who pay his salary  and… if you recall correctly… the violent headcase simply walked off the school grounds after the shooting and went home. The motto of Broward County law enforcement must be, “To protect and to serve… or go outside and wet our pants.”

The former deputy who did nothing while now has armed police protecting his home. Hm, I wonder if they would stand outside and do nothing if an armed assailant showed up.

And there’s more:

In November, a tipster called BSO to say Cruz “could be a school shooter in the making” but deputies did not write up a report on that warning. It came just weeks after a relative called urging BSO to seize his weapons. Two years ago, according to a newly released timeline of interactions with Cruz’s family, a deputy investigated a report that Cruz “planned to shoot up the school” — intelligence that was forwarded to the school’s resource officer, with no apparent result.

Good Lord.

Law enforcement in this case was absolutely incompetent at every level. The local police were called to the home of the known threat no fewer than 39 times, and did nothing to protect the community from the known threat. The known threat posted threats to shoot up his school under his own name. Tipped off to this, the FBI did… nothing. And even as known threat was inside the school building killing people, an armed police office stood outside, probably wetting his pants.

Leftists are saying, “You see! You see! A trained cop saw an AR-15 and wet his pants. This proves teachers should not be armed because they would be even less capable of confronting a shooter.” The late Aaron Feis and the JROTC students who shielded their classmates would beg to differ.

Law-abiding American gun owners should not lose our basic Constitutional Rights as a result of the complete, top-to-bottom incompetence of law enforcement. That’s like saying I should lose my driver’s license and have my car confiscated because a cop in another state waved a drunk driver through a checkpoint who went on to smash his car into a minivan and kill people.

Oh, and meanwhile, CNN frets that describing the known threat as violent murderous headcases is hurtful and stigmatizing. (Warning: Super-annoying autoplay vid at link.)

An anti-gun zealot argued with me on Twitter yesterday. This was his argument. (Lack of intelligent capitalization in original)

i have a question. if someone needs to pass an exam and other tests in order to get a gun, how could they possibly get around that?

Le sigh.

On a related note, the governor of California just signed a law making it illegal for teachers to shoot back at school shooters. So, it’s OK to protect banks and politicians with guns, but not children. I guess politicians and banks are more important.

Also, here’s a feminist who says that “The patriarchal race to colonize Mars is just another example of male entitlement

Rather, the impulse to colonize to colonize lands, to colonize peoples, and, now that we may soon be technologically capable of doing so, colonizing space has its origins in gendered power structures. Entitlement to power, control, domination and ownership. The presumed right to use and abuse something and then walk away to conquer and colonize something new.

And in the Progressive Utopia of San Francisco – where there is a massive shortage of housing because the supply of idiots wanting to live in a literal sh-thole outstrips the available number of dwelling units – a guy spent four years and over a million dollars trying to convince the progressive elites to let him turn his own building into a 75-unit apartment complex.

The real opposition came from some of the neighbors. A community meeting in January 2016 served as something of a flashpoint.

At the meeting, one woman fretted that the tall building would violate the privacy of a nearby public school. Another argued that the project needed to be 100 percent affordable housing. Two representatives from local Latino Cultural District Calle 24 said that even a 100 percent affordable housing project was out of the question, given the proposed height of the development.

When Tillman said he saw his project as necessary so people like his daughter could afford to come back and live in the city, one particularly motivated activist said she wished his daughter was killed in a terrorist attack.

And the community activists have allied themselves with the bureaucrats, or vice versa.

The Planning Department also said that new information had been presented suggesting that Tillman’s property might be a “historic resource.” You see, the building once housed a local employment agency, back in the 1970s. Also, it once featured a mural depicting the life of Latina women. (The mural no longer exists.)

Indeed, the lots Tillman owns were deemed ineligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places and on any state or local equivalents, according to the 2011 South Mission Historic Resource Survey conducted by the Planning Department.

Nevertheless, on February 13 the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to require a historic evaluation to be done at Tillman’s expense. They will revisit the issue, they say, in another four months.
