Admiral Stockdale (google him, Zennials!) famously asked, “Who am I? Why am I here?” They’re good questions.
So who am I? What kind of blogging will I be doing? I’ve been around politics all my life. In my BabyGay™ days I was an activist and politico in Washington, D.C. working on Capitol Hill and for gay rights groups. Although my views have always been pro-liberty, pro-markets, and anti-communist it was easy to fall in line with DC groupthink, if only to get the free booze at cocktail parties. I hope to give the reader some perspectives that smash the accepted narratives that we’re bombarded with daily. No idea is too sacred to question vigorously, and disagreement will always be welcome.
I have a background in the western classics, a love of history, three cats, and a brilliant engineer husband of more than 12 years. These themes will probably show up in my writing, and you’ll hear a lot about history and the frame of reference it can bring to our modern (mis)fortunes. I can’t wait to get started! Good morning all, Chris Barron here, and my what a strange road it has been for me and this website. If someone would have told 2004 Chris Barron that he would be contributing to this site, I am pretty sure that guy would have laughed in your face.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a PR and communications specialist who has worked in the conservative movement for almost 20 years (gulp, I’m old).
I once served as Political Director for Log Cabin Republicans and then co-founded (along with Bruce and another person who will go unnamed) GOProud – the conservative alternative to LCR.
I was an early Trump supporter (2011 early to be exact), who soured on Trump after he didn’t run in 2012, supported Rand Paul in 2016 and then came home to Trumpland after Rand dropped out.
I am an unapologetic America Firster. I think the Bush-Romney years were a disaster for the party and the country.
I look forward to contributing in the weeks and months ahead.

One of my favorite authors from my English classes in high school was John Steinbeck. I’ve always gravitated toward ‘historical fiction’ and his observations on society were very different than my experiences growing up.
Steinbeck’s non-fictional story, “Travels with Charley: In Search of America,” was my favorite of his books though. He travelled across the country he loved with his French poodle. After reading the book as a teenager, I immediately wanted to journey across the country with my future dog.
For better or worse — thanks to COVID — I had the chance to drive across a quarter of the country the last two weeks with our newest Patriot Pooch, Hercules. Herc is a mix of beagle, pitbull, and golden retriever. We adopted him in July 2020 from a home that wasn’t a good fit for him; he had been abused by the kids in the house. He’s had some emotional issues since joining our home which we are still working through. But it turns out, he was a wonderful road companion.
I’m going to write another post or two about the trip. It turns out I drove nearly the same route in March of 2020 — “two weeks” after the COVID lockdowns began. So I’ve seen a lot of how America is doing — at least in the Southeast. And it isn’t good.
For now, here is Herc. He’s a good boy.
I apologize for not posting since Monday. I’ve been on a road trip the last two weeks to and from Dallas, TX. I also drove up to visit Ginger Bitch in Oklahoma City last weekend.
In any case, I wanted to let everyone know that we are still working on some technical upgrades for the site. We have been on WordPress and hosted by GoDaddy since 2005 (!!) and the site has sort of been band-aided together since.
My trusty Webmaster Jay is working diligently to migrate to a new server and do some cleanup.
That said, comments are being moderated and I’m trying to get them to post immediately.
And, I also hope the new GayPatriot contributors will chime in soon.

I’m thrilled to announce that the blog formerly known as “GayPatriot”… is back!
If you aren’t familiar with this site, let me give you a brief history of how GayPatriot began.
In the summer and fall of 2004, two prominent left-wing gay activists were “outing” gay staffers who worked for Republican Members of Congress. These individuals were not public figures, they were public servants. Many were young and this outing crusade terrified these staffers; they had not told their families or their employers about their sexual orientation.
It was no one’s business except theirs when they wanted to “come out” but the left-wing gay activists decided to terrorize these young people.
So I started the GayPatriot blog to shine the light on this effort and provide a counter-argument to the outing crusade.
The blog began on Blogspot (you follow old people remember Blogspot, right?)… and so some of the original postings are lost.
The GayPatriot blog’s original mission morphed into a platform for gay conservative issues and served as a counterbalance to Andrew Sullivan (who went off the deep end) in the mid-2000s. Thanks to Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit and the folks at PajamasMedia (now PJ Media), GayPatriot became a go-to mainstream conservative opinion blog.
My original co-blogger Dan (aka GayPatriotWest) joined me early on and provided a fantastic different perspective on news and culture that added more depth to the site than I could have hoped. Over the years, we have had a variety of other contributors and many thanks to “VtheK” who held down the fort for many years as I drifted away from blogging.
But now we are back. Why? Because today’s “cancel culture” reminds me a lot of my original mission to counter the “outing” witchhunt from the Gay Left. It also seems appropriate to relaunch as the Biden/Harris Administration gets going so this site can revel in the media’s hypocrisy — another theme of the original GayPatriot site.
I’ve invited new contributors to blog with me and they will introduce themselves over the next couple of days.
Please feel free to comment and be an active member of our community. We accept all inputs and I will have a very light touch on moderating comments — unless you are an asshole.
And as always remember: Don’t vote with your body parts…. it’s gross.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Things I Didn’t See Coming When PDT Was Elected: The Democrats defending a gang of violent street criminals whose motto is “Kill! Rape! Control!” just because PDT said something mean about them.
NRA members are “terrorists,” but violent thugs who catfish teenage boys to public parts and then hack them to death with machetes have “dignity and worth.”
I am coming round to the opinion that PDT isn’t so much brilliant as his opponents are deranged idiots.
I begin to wonder if the Democrat “Blue Wave” plan to take the House and Senate is going to be thwarted by their own derangement.
