Russia psychosis update

July 11, 2017 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

Just to follow up my earlier post on the Donald Trump, Jr. situation. It turns out that:

  • Someone called Rob Goldstone, a British publicist, arranged the meeting between Trump, Jr. and Veselnitskaya in June 2016.
  • In a good act of transparency, Trump Jr. has released the emails that led up to it. (The left-leaning Guardian calls them “damning”; but of course they aren’t.)
  • Trump Jr. took the meeting because he was a campaign operative and Goldstone promised – but then failed to deliver – a Russian whistleblower with “some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia…”
  • Per USA Today:

Goldstone [arranged the meeting] at the request of his client, Azerbaijani-born pop singer Emin Agalarov, whose ties to Veselnitskaya are unclear.

[She] stated she had some information regarding illegal campaign contributions to the (Democratic National Committee)…

At the meeting, Goldstone said Veselnitskaya “presented a few very general remarks regarding campaign funding and then quickly turned the topic to something else.” (Multiple reports say she then spoke about Russia barring Americans from adopting…)

At that point, Goldstone said, “the meeting was halted by Don Jr., and we left. Nothing came of that meeting and there was no follow-up between the two parties.”

  • Also, Veselnitskaya had NO meaningful ties to Putin or anyone high-level in the Russian government.

The emails make clear that Trump Jr. took the meeting because he wanted to expose illegal Hillary-Russia collusion, if that existed. He was told, in effect, that he was meeting a whistleblower. He surely knew that Hillary has a history of colluding with the Russians, seemingly in exchange for money.

It’s Orwellian that Trump Jr’s interest in exposing Hillary-Russia collusion (if more of that existed) would now be depicted as him supposedly colluding with Russians. But that’s the mentally-ill world we live in. Anti-Trumpers are calling these latest Nothing Burgers “explosive”, “disturbing”, “potentially treasonous”, and “the smoking gun”, because supposedly “The exchange demonstrates that the Trump campaign was eager for help from Russia” (Slate).

It’s all nonsense. It’s normal for campaigns to meet with anyone – American or foreign – who might have dirt on opponents. The term of art is “opposition research”. As noted below, Hillary’s campaign sure met with foreigners, to do it. And again, Trump Jr’s evidenced intent was to expose Russia collusion that he thought Hillary could be doing.

The whole incident smells like a setup, that Trump Jr. rightly dodged. As suggested in my earlier post, we need to know more about Goldstone’s, Agalarov’s, and/or Veselnitskaya’s ties to the Democrat dirty-tricks shop, Fusion GPS.

Sorry, lefties. Once more, you push the fake “Russia hacked the election – and Trump colluded” narrative, and you come up way short.

Here’s a couple stories worth looking at, lefties:

  • How Ukraine hacked the election. Ukraine officials met with Hillary/DNC operatives to try to dig up dirt on Trump. (Exact same thing that you’re freaked out about, with Trump Jr.)
  • How Saudi Arabia hacked the election. Crown Prince Salman asserted that he was responsible for 20% of Hillary’s campaign funds. As ZH puts it, ” It is illegal in the United States for foreign countries to try to influence the outcome of elections by funding candidates.”

Lefties – I understand your need to lie to yourselves about Trumprussia, but –
Why don’t you care about Ukraine hacking our democracy?
Why don’t you care about Saudi Arabia hacking our democracy?
Why don’t you care about Saudi Arabia and Qatar’s massive pay-for-play donations to the Clinton Foundation?
Why don’t you care about Hillary’s Russia collusion in giving away 20% of the U.S. uranium supply to Russia?
Why don’t you care about Bill, and the Podesta brothers, taking massive “fees” and other payoffs from Russian companies?

Palate cleanser: Lefties practicing their self-defense skills. It’s funny to see lisping, up-talk-y gamma males going on about martial arts – with zero self-awareness about how Antifa and the Left are the violent people in America today.

UPDATE: Yes, Veselnitskaya hangs with Democrats.

Kabuki theater

June 11, 2017 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

Figuring out what’s happening in Washington – under the surface, with the Deep State factions – is a guessing game. Highly uncertain. Of course I don’t “know anything”, in the sense of having sources. I read the tea leaves as best I can, and I guess.

When President Trump unexpectedly did a huge Saudi arms deal, I had a feeling that former FBI Director Comey’s testimony would then turn out as a net win for Trump. What’s the connection? Hard to explain. I’m going to say some stuff now which could easily be crap; feel free to shoot it down in the comments, or to add your own ideas.

Trump and Saudi Arabia

May 22, 2017 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

Probably more than any other country, Saudi Arabia has “hacked our democracy”. I keep meaning to write a post on their ownership share of U.S. media, and why they would be on board with a “Trump is a Russian agent!” narrative.

During the election, Trump rightly criticized Hillary for taking money from the world’s worst country for women and gays. And he had a nasty Twitter exchange with a Saudi prince.

What a difference a year makes. First, the new US-Saudi arms deal:

According to a statement just issued by the White House, Trump “has just completed largest single arms deal in US history, negotiating a package totaling more than $109.7 billion” which will boost Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities, bolstering equipment and services in the face of extreme terrorist groups and Iran. The White House added that the deal will create defense jobs while also reaffirming America’s commitment to Saudi Arabia…

According to estimates cited by The Independent, including restocking and future commitments over the next ten years, the deal could balloon to $350 billion worth of arms…

I’m not at all sure this is good news.

  • How is it different from what any pet of the Deep State would have done? (Obama, Hillary, Jeb Bush, Lindsay McCain?) I don’t know.
  • Does it boost U.S. jobs as much as Trump says? I don’t know.
  • I know it will help Saudi Arabia to conquer its neighbor Yemen and gain control of its oil reserves. (Not necessarily good.)
  • Does it put U.S. defense technology in the hands of people who hate us? Probably.
  • Does it mean that Saudi-controlled elements of U.S. media will ease their war on Trump? I don’t know.

I do know that Trump’s speech in Riyadh was epic. As Bruce Bawer puts it:

It was gag-inducing to hear him praise the “magnificent kingdom” of Saudi Arabia, “the splendor of your country,” “the grandeur of this remarkable place,” and so on…But then something happened…

…he began mixing the ethereal praise with realistic businessman-type talk about the value of international partnership…[and] underscored the fact that in order for such a partnership to work, something would have to change. And it would have to change a lot. The Islamic world, he insisted, had to turn into a place where young Muslims could grow up “innocent of hatred.”

And then he spelled out the results of that hatred, presenting first a roll call of some of the “barbaric attacks” on America – 9/11, Boston, San Bernardino, Orlando – and then a list of other places (“Europe, Africa, South America, India, Russia, China, and Australia”) where that hatred has manifested itself.

However delicately he worked his way around to it, it was nothing less than an accusation.

No, he didn’t explicitly charge Muslim leaders with funding terrorism – but he told them, in no uncertain terms, that they needed to cut off funds to terrorists…And, yes, he spoke of “Islamic” (not “Islamist” or “radical Islamic”) terror. And he made it clear he wasn’t just talking about terrorism – he was talking about Islam itself. He condemned “the oppression of women, the persecution of Jews, and the slaughter of Christians.”

Kudos, Mr. President!

“Shattered” gets it half-right

May 9, 2017 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

I just finished Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign. We’ve been commenting on excerpts from it for weeks. This is my take on the book as a whole.

On the plus side: The subject is delicious. (Reading the story of Election Night was pure Schadenfreude.) Allen and Parnes, the authors, write fairly well. And they don’t blame “Russia, Comey and misogyny” non-stop. They report on actual flaws of the candidate and her staff, and how those flaws kept her from closing the deal with Middle America.

On the minus side: The book is overly-detailed. The authors do blame “Russia, Comey and misogyny” some of the time. In the end, they are liberals writing for liberals. They don’t admit the depth of Hillary’s flaws. For example, they never admit the genuineness of the scandals dogging her: the fact that she broke laws for which other Americans are serving jail time, that she obstructed justice, that FBI Director Comey really gave her kid-glove treatment, etc.

In short, Allen and Parnes miss the larger story of the Clintons’ corruption – and how, in 2016, half of America finally stood up to it and beat it back. Instead, they bury the reader in details about Hillary’s innumerable aides and the in-fighting that she encouraged.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. Some key ideas (probably known to you already): [Read more…]

“Russia hacked our election”: False, on so many levels

April 11, 2017 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

V just nailed it, in another post:

“Those ignorant bitter-clinger hicks in flyover rust belt states hate women and are so stupid they fell for Russia’s tricks,” is the essence of [the Left’s explanation for the 2016 election].

In other words, saying “Russia hacked our election”…

  1. …is an insult – to the American people. That’s one thing wrong with it. But, there’s more.
  2. No one ever disputes that the DNC and Podesta e-mails that came out, were genuine. In other words: the hacking/leaking gave the voters true and relevant information about a major candidate’s wrong-doing and shady dealings.

When I was a kid, we had the original “-gate” scandal. It was this thing called Watergate. One of Watergate’s lessons, supposedly, was that if a major politician is up to no good, it doesn’t matter how the information comes out. It’s only important that it comes out. So that the voters will know.

Whoever leaked the DNC and Podesta emails didn’t “attack” or “harm” or “undermine” our democracy. They enhanced it. *Because* the information was 100% true and relevant in this case, the hackers/leakers did our democracy a big favor. Whoever they were.

  3. And, if we are supposed to worry about interference in our elections/democracy, then…
    • What about Hillary’s dependence on Saudi Arabian money? Saudi Arabia is one of the most anti-gay and anti-woman countries on Earth. Can we talk about how Saudi Arabia has hacked our democracy?
    • Why don’t we talk about Bill and Hillary hacking our democracy, with their massive pay-for-play corruption and scandals? Or Hillary’s cheating in the debates? (part of what the e-mails exposed)
    • Why don’t we talk about the Controlled Media hacking our democracy, with their tyranny of Fake News?

Remember the endless drumbeat about how Hillary is up in the polls, Hillary has it locked, Hillary is 95% sure to win. All that was Fake News intended to depress non-Hillary voters. That is: To suppress voter turnout!

Hey, why don’t we talk about the known, active collusion in 2016 between the Controlled Media and Hillary campaign operatives?

    • Why don’t we talk about George Soros and the Left hacking our democracy, with all their paid/staged protests, violence, trolls and astro-turfing?
    • Why don’t we talk about U.S. interference in other countries’ elections? The CIA has interfered in German media and every German election since the end of World War II. Is Angela Merkel, then, illegitimate?
  4. Last but not least, let’s cover the reasons why Russia could easily NOT have had any part in the DNC or Podesta e-mail hacking/leaking.
    • The evidence that it was Russia was always shaky, and still is.
    • Wikileaks says flat-out that their source wasn’t anyone connected to the Russian government.

In 10 years, they’ve always published real stuff and been fairly truthful. So, I’m not going to ignore their story.

    • Julian Assange has implied that his source was Seth Rich, a murdered DNC insider.

Of course I’d feel better if Assange would say it outright; but I can understand his reluctance. (Don’t mess with an ongoing police investigation, don’t burden Rich’s family with publicity, etc.) Assange went pretty far, in implying it.

    • Wikileaks VAULT 7. We now know that the CIA often hacks into things – whether for spying, or mischief, or setting up a long-range manipulation – and leaves Russian fingerprints deliberately to mislead people.

That means something. Sadly and from now on, it means we can never automatically believe the U.S. intelligence agencies when they say “Russia did it”, about any hacking episode, ever.

Anytime someone says to me “The intelligence agencies all say it was Russia”, I say “Whoa. Have you heard of Vault 7? the Umbrage group? the Marble program? Look it up. And know that all bets are off.”

If I missed another good reason, please add it in the comments.
