Careful of what people claim to be

Every human being alive (I’m no exception) likes people who agree with him or her. Hearing what we want to hear gives our brains a positive jolt. Gathering with like-minded people makes us feel “at home”. It’s human nature. Heck, it’s the reason I started visiting this blog (which is Bruce’s), years ago.

We also like to think that our heroes / important authorities would agree with us. This can be used for a marketing advantage. For example, if you dislike Donald Trump or his key supporters, you can get a leg up – in terms of having on-the-fence people read you or believe you – if you pretend to speak for the Republican party, as Ana Navarro does.

Or you could go Reagan. I’ve seen many folks quote (or re-tweet) a certain anti-Trump presence calling themselves The Reagan Battalion.

For my part, I’ve always felt a tad suspicious of them. They never struck me as especially Reagan-esque, or as linked to the Reagan legacy in some extra way that would justify claiming his name. The name strikes me as a marketing effort to say “Believe us, because we promise, Ronald Reagan R Us! Totes legit!”

I tend to be suspicious of Argument from Authority, and its variations like Argument from Biography, or Argument from What I Claim To Be. This is one reason (there are others) why I don’t talk my biography here on GP. My presence sort-of-tells people I’m gay, and my handle (ILC) announces my general ideology; other than that, I work to make my information/arguments stand on their merits.

Anyway: Lucian Wintrich, a gay Trump supporter and journalist, has done a piece critical of The Reagan Battalion that may be of interest. He says they were part of the anti-Milo campaign earlier this year (which I agree was a smear pile-on and as such, not the tiniest bit Reagan-esque). Wintrich links to other journalism that ties The Reagan Battalion to Democrat money and sketchy activists, per FEC and IRS filings.

This is one where I don’t claim to know “the truth”; just pointing out the article and letting people comment.

At last, some in Controlled Media slam the Alt Left

  • Associated Press, Black-Clad Anarchists Swarm Anti-Hate Rally in Berkeley.

    Berkeley, Calif. (AP) — An anti-hate rally was disrupted when scores of anarchists wearing black clothing and masks stormed the demonstration in Berkeley and attacked several supporters of President Donald Trump…

    “Anarchist” is the wrong word for Antifa, AP; try “communist” (by philosophy) or “fascist” (by their actual behavior). But, baby steps.

  • The Washington Post, Black-clad antifa members attack peaceful right-wing demonstrators in Berkeley.

    Their faces hidden behind black bandannas and hoodies, about 100 anarchists and antifa— “anti-fascist” — members barreled into a protest Sunday afternoon in Berkeley’s Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park…

    Shortly after, violence began to flare. A pepper-spray-wielding Trump supporter was smacked to the ground with homemade shields. Another was attacked by five black-clad antifa members, each windmilling kicks and punches into a man desperately trying to protect himself. A conservative group leader retreated for safety behind a line of riot police as marchers chucked water bottles, shot off pepper spray and screamed, “Fascist go home!”

    All told, the Associated Press reported at least five individuals were attacked. An AP reporter witnessed the assaults…

Not to be suspicious, but all this has only been going on for the past 18 months, so… Why report it this time? Why now?

We may as well note the Arpaio thing

To me, it’s a yawner, sorry. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a patriot. He tried to enforce existing border law. He stepped on some judge’s order and was then targeted for prosecution by the Obama administration. He was found guilty, under the letter of the law. The Constitution lets the President pardon people. Some lefties are calling it the end of the Constitution, that President Trump would have pardoned Arpaio; but it’s the usual misleading hyperbole. In reality, the whole thing from start to finish is an exercise of the Constitution.

Here’s video of former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (a clean government guy) making the point (among others) that President Obama pardoned or commuted the sentences of 1700 people, from drug dealers to forgers to the traitorous Chelsea Manning.

UPDATE: Who can forget Bill Clinton’s pardon of Marc Rich? By any objective standard, Arpaio deserves his pardon more than Rich or Manning.

Which is what makes it so boring. The Left gins up non-controversy #1,388,544,877 over a pardon as reasonable/constitutional as any.

UPDATE: Our intrepid commenters point out other matters where Arpaio might deserve prosecution. I could be fine with that. Operative word, “other”.

In this post, I’m discussing the one contempt-of-court charge. I assumed that Trump’s pardon was tailored to that. I looked for the actual text of the pardon and didn’t find it. But I think it would have to be (since conviction comes before pardon).

You sucker-punch an African-American. Brag about it on social media. Then get arrested for assault. Because you’re that stupid. Hunting suspected Nazis (or witches or whatever), the activity itself, will make you so.

The death of Trumprussia

A couple weeks ago, leftie rag The Nation basically told lefties to start getting over Trumprussia because the DNC, at least, just wasn’t hacked.

Former NSA experts say it wasn’t a hack at all, but a leak—an inside job by someone with access to the DNC’s system.

…[with the Russia narrative], we are urged to accept the word of institutions and senior officials with long records of deception. These officials profess “high confidence” in their “assessment” as to what happened in the spring and summer of last year…[but] an assessment is an opinion, nothing more, and to express high confidence is an upside-down way of admitting the absence of certain knowledge.

[On the other side,] Forensic investigators, intelligence analysts, system designers, program architects, and computer scientists of long experience and strongly credentialed are now producing evidence disproving the official version of key events last year…

The Nation quotes a report from Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS):

Hard science now demonstrates it was a leak—a download executed locally with a memory key or a similarly portable data-storage device. In short, it was an inside job…

Forensic investigations of documents made public two weeks prior to the July 5 leak by the person or entity known as Guccifer 2.0 show that they were fraudulent: Before Guccifer posted them they were adulterated by cutting and pasting them into a blank template that had Russian as its default language[, a setting that anyone can do]…

VIPS used the work of several investigators such as Disobedient Media, The Forensicator, Adam Carter (I mentioned them in my post explaining Guccifer 2.0 from five weeks ago), and others also. The Nation continues:

Under no circumstance can it be acceptable that the relevant authorities—the National Security Agency, the Justice Department (via the Federal Bureau of Investigation), and the Central Intelligence Agency—leave these new findings without reply.

[…]

The Intelligence Community Assessment [of Russian hacking], the supposedly definitive report featuring the “high confidence” dodge, was greeted as farcically flimsy when issued January 6. Ray McGovern calls it a disgrace to the intelligence profession. It is spotlessly free of evidence, front to back, pertaining to any events in which Russia is implicated. James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence, admitted in May that “hand-picked” analysts from three agencies (not the 17 previously reported) drafted the ICA. There is a way to understand “hand-picked” that is less obvious than meets the eye: The report was sequestered from rigorous agency-wide reviews…

Behind the ICA lie other indefensible realities. The FBI has never examined the DNC’s computer servers—an omission that is beyond preposterous. It has instead relied on the reports produced by Crowdstrike, a firm that drips with conflicting interests well beyond the fact that it is in the DNC’s employ. Dmitri Alperovitch, its co-founder and chief technology officer, is on the record as vigorously anti-Russian…

I’ve been blogging on the above points, for months. It’s nice to see a left-wing publication grapple with them, at last.

Russian-Nazi racist helped Black colleges

Scott Adams has been pushing a certain list of Trump accomplishments as President. Adams says:

1. Identify your most lefty, Trump-hating friend or family member.

2. Share this link of President Trump’s accomplishments while you are in the same room so you can watch them read it.

3. Watch as your lefty friend turns “cognitively blind” to the list of accomplishments as if it is not really there. Your subject will KNOW President has accomplished nothing…

…The list will simply be “invisible,” but not in the literal sense, only the mental sense. If you check back in two days, your anti-Trumper will claim once again no such list exists. Watch their eyes when they say it. It will be freaky.

To be fair, some items on the list are a bit exaggerated. But others, I had no idea about. Most of the media never told me. For example, this one about black colleges caught my eye:

February 28… President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday aimed at signaling his commitment to historically black colleges and universities…

“This is a great day for my membership and a great day for America,” said Lezli Baskerville, head of the National Association For Equal Opportunity in Education, an umbrella group for public, private and land-grant HBCUs…

Trump’s order moves the Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities from the Department of Education into the executive office of the White House. It directs the initiative to work with the private sector to strengthen the fiscal stability of HBCUS, make infrastructure improvements, provide job opportunities for students, work with secondary schools to create a college pipeline and increase access and opportunity for federal grants and contracts.

Separately and also interesting, there’s the freeing of Aya Hijazi:

April 21… President Donald Trump hailed the return of Aya Hijazi, an Egyptian-American aid worker, in the Oval Office on Friday, telling the American charity worker she showed “great strength” in her ordeal.

“We are very happy to have Aya back home,” Trump said, seated alongside Hijazi, who returned from Egypt late Thursday. “It’s a great honor to have her in the Oval Office with her brother.”

…Trump was briefed on Hijazi’s case early in his term and directed his national security team to take steps to secure her release…

Obviously, this post’s title is sarcastic.

Lefties now literally protest Free Speech – and America

At the Free Speech Rally in Boston yesterday, Alt Left protestors apparently assaulted an older woman who did nothing but hold an American flag. (I’m not sure if this was before or after the rally was officially shut down.)

Truly, we live in a time of insanity and mass hysteria – from the Left.

Why?

  • After eight years of President Obama, tens of millions of lefties thought that they understood reality; their view was inherently right and destined to prevail; their self-indulgent behaviors had, you know, Left-Wing Privilege. They thought they were the cool kids.
  • The election of President Trump – I mean, the very fact of it – stands as a massive rebuke and disproof. The lefties’ view might not be right and destined; at the very least, the world doesn’t work the way they thought it did and won’t automatically accept their excesses.
  • These millions of people are unable to handle being rebuked or disproven (or not the cool kids).
  • Rather than accept any correction to their views or behavior, these people are more unhinged than ever: mis-perceiving reality, saying and believing and doing desperate things, and egging each other on.

What happens next? One of two things. Either

  1. They’ll win – their mass tantrums will work – they’ll pull off a left-wing coup d’etat, ending what is left of the Constitution and Free Speech. Basically, America goes Commie. (Because anyone who would ever oppose that must be a Nazi.) Or,
  2. They’ll lose – they’ll provoke an even greater backlash (greater than electing Trump) in favor of America, the Constitution, and Free Speech under the Rule of Law. Basically, they’ll be facing years of therapy (and a few of them, jail).

Either way, it’s rough times for the rest of us. Under possibility 1, we lose totally. Under possibility 2, we win – but will have to put up with years of nonsense.

Establishment GOP joins the Coup?

A cluster of news items could be pointing at this. First, from The New York Times on Aug 5, Vice President Pence has been busy with the power brokers:

…Mike Pence’s schedule is so full of political events that Republicans joke that he is acting more like a second-term vice president…

…multiple advisers to Mr. Pence have already intimated to party donors that he would plan to run if Mr. Trump [were out]…

Mr. Pence has been the pacesetter…creating an independent power base…promoting himself as the main conduit between the Republican donor class and the administration.

The vice president created his own political fund-raising committee, Great America Committee…The group, set up with help from Jack Oliver, a former fund-raiser for George W. Bush, has overshadowed Mr. Trump’s own primary outside political group, America First Action, even raising more in disclosed donations.

William Kristol, editor at large of The Weekly Standard, said he had begun informal conversations about creating a “Committee Not to Renominate the President.”…

The story frames it as a matter for 2020 and talks about Kasich and others. What I wanted to highlight here, is that:

  • Pence, whose participation in any coup is essential, is no shrinking violet.
  • Interventionists – people who want more wars – like Bushworld and Kristol, continue to work actively against Trump.

Next, today we have the news that Bannon is out. Supposedly, he resigned Aug. 7 and they delayed announcing his departure, due to too much other news (North Korea, Charlottesville). I don’t think that Bannon leaving is a yuge deal, but it may be a piece in a larger pattern.

Next, Newsweek says that Trump is 6 Senate votes away from being impeachable. The rumor mill states it in a sharper form: that the RNC (! not DNC) has been counting votes to do an impeachment.

We know how impeachment would work: They would invent some excuse. Trumprussia is nonsense but it won’t matter to them. Mueller could find a ham sandwich that Trumpworld purchased in Russia and call it money laundering. And so on. If they want to do it, they’ll think of a way.

As if on cue, we have Mitt Romney demanding an apology from Trump over Charlottesville.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, wrote on Facebook. “State forcefully and unequivocally that racists are 100% to blame for the murder and violence in Charlottesville.”

Mitt is wrong, both on the facts (how the violence was distributed) and on the Constitution (the First Amendment excludes one group having a Heckler’s Veto on another group’s right of assembly). But, whatever. The point here is, reading the tea leaves. Again, the rumor mill states it more sharply, that VP Pence may have contacted Romney and had a hand in Romney’s attack.

If a coup comes to be, the losers will, of course, be the American people. For better or worse, whether it’s good or bad, 65 million Americans wanted “America First” and “Make America Great Again”. And NO Americans, not even Hillary supporters, voted to see “politics as usual” with the GOP and Democrat establishments uniting against the election result.

Trump is supposed to be at his best when his back is against the wall, so he may have a comeback in him. But he will have to remind the Establishment of why Americans voted for him. In other words, Trump will probably have to reactivate his base – re-fight 2016 – go “full barbarian”.

Assuming that he doesn’t have an assassination or suspiciously-timed heart attack first. The GOP and Democrat Establishments may be feeling pressure to move quickly, because Julian Assange has committed to blowing Trumprussia out of the water.

Julian Assange told a U.S. congressman on Tuesday he can prove the leaked Democratic Party documents he published during last year’s election did not come from Russia and promised additional helpful information about the leaks in the near future.

Ruh-roh! (if you’re the Establishment or Deep State)

When lefties are in denial

In response to President Trump’s comments yesterday, Sen. Kaine (D – Hillary) said this:

Charlottesville violence was fueled by one side: white supremacists spreading racism, intolerance & intimidation. Those are the facts.

No, Senator. Your son, Linwood, was arrested and in jail for spreading violence, intolerance and intimidation on behalf of the Left. Then charged with multiple misdemeanors. Those are the facts.

By the way – search “creepy tim kaine” sometime, and view the Images tab. It’s a creepy hoot.

UPDATE – When Marco Rubio condones violence:

The organizers of events which inspired & led to #charlottesvilleterroristattack are 100% to blame for a number of reasons… When entire movement built on anger & hatred towards people different than you, it justifies & ultimately leads to violence against them.

Rubio loves to go on about his love of America and how our founding principles are important to him; but, evidently, the concept of Free Speech escapes him.

Rubio just said that, if you don’t like somebody’s speech or beliefs or marching permit, you’re “justified” (his concept) in attacking them violently. U.S. criminal law would beg to differ with Senator Rubio.

UPDATE – When McCain joins him:

There’s no moral equivalency between racists & Americans standing up to defy hate& bigotry. The President of the United States should say so

Let’s be clear:

  • There is definite moral equivalence between U.S. neo-Nazis and Antifa.
  • There is definite moral equivalence between the various #WhiteLivesMatter types and #BlackLivesMatter.
  • Antifa has been committing crimes of violence against human beings (not just property) for months or years, and #BlackLivesMatter has spread bigotry and incited riots and cop-killings.

If McCain is in denial about that, he does not belong in the Senate.

More Google updates

Just to round out today’s earlier post, we also have new interviews in Breitbart’s Rebels of Google series.

  • At Google, minorities and Ivy Leaguers get softball job interviews. An internal study found it out – then was shut down, presumably for having told the truth.
  • Google scans your email content and, in the future, there’s no reason they can’t lock you out for political reasons. As they are suspected of having tried to do recently to Jordan B. Peterson, the Canadian conservative professor.
  • After all, Google senior management has led the company in #BlackLivesMatter chants. And shed tears onstage, when Trump won.
  • And CEO Eric Schmidt has the anti-privacy, Deep State, Big Brother viewpoint about the data you store with Google: “If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.”

UPDATE – Everyone we don’t like is Raaaaaaaaaysist: CNN falsely smears the planned March on Google as a “White Nationalist”, “Alt Right” event.

To begin with, the organizers of March on Google are known to be pro-peace, anti-racist and anti-Alt Right. But they also say it pointedly, at this link.

The March on Google condemns and disavows violence, hatred, and bigotry and all groups that espouse it such as White Nationalists, KKK, Antifa, and NeoNazis.
We will not use messages that are designed to incite anger, hate, or violence.
We will respect the law and the police and cooperate in all matters.
Any violation of these tenets will not be tolerated.
Is this an “Alt-Right” event? The answer is no. This is an event for First Amendment supporters from across the country, from all backgrounds, ethnicity, and walks of life.

CNN could have checked it easily. Instead, CNN published a complete falsehood – once again attempting to smear anyone who challenges them, or Google or the hard Left, as racists.

Hey, lefties: This is why Trump won (be that good or bad). This is why rational, honest people reject and despise the Left.

UPDATE: Peaceful March on Google is postponed, due to Alt Left terrorist threats following the CNN slanders.
