Gary Johnson Defends Wedding Cake Fascism

May 23, 2016 by V the K

In a Facebook post, Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson explains why the State should be allowed to force bakers and florists to participate in gay weddings even if such participation goes against their religious beliefs.

In a nationally-televised debate among three of the Libertarian candidates for President (A debate that should, by the way, have been more inclusive of all the candidates.), a highly unlikely hypothetical question was raised about whether a Jewish baker has the right to refuse to serve a Nazi sympathizer asking for a “Nazi cake”. I responded to that question in the legal context of whether a public business has the right to refuse to serve a member of the public, as distasteful as it might be.

The simple answer to that question is, whether all like it or not, U.S. law has recognized the principle of public accommodation for more than 100 years: The principle that, when a business opens its doors to the public, that business enters into an implied contract to serve ALL of the public. Further, when that business voluntarily opens its doors, the owners voluntarily agree to adhere to applicable laws and regulations — whether they like those laws or not.

To be clear, anti-discrimination laws do not, and cannot, abridge fundamental First Amendment rights. I know of no one who reasonably disagrees. In the highly unlikely event that a Nazi would demand that a Jewish baker decorate a cake with a Nazi symbol, the courts, common sense, and common decency — not to mention the First Amendment — all combine to protect that baker from having to do so. It’s not an issue, except when distorted for purposes of gotcha politics.

Does a public bakery have to sell a cake to a Nazi? Probably so. Does that bakery have to draw a swastika on it? Absolutely not. And that’s the way it should be.

Of course, we all know that this conversation is really “code” for the current, and far more real, conversation about society’s treatment of LGBT individuals. I have even heard some talk of a “right to discriminate”. And of course, we have states and municipalities today trying to create a real right to discriminate against the LGBT community on religious grounds — the same kinds of “religious” grounds that were used to defend racial segregation, forbid interracial marriages and, yes, defend discrimination against Jews by businesses. That is not a slope Libertarians want to go down.

Once again, my belief that discrimination on the basis of religion should not be allowed has been distorted by some to suggest that a legitimate church or its clergy should be “forced” to perform a same-sex marriage. That is absurd. The various ballot initiatives I supported across the country to repeal bans on same-sex marriage all had one provision in common: A specific provision making clear that no religious organization, priest or pastor could be required to perform any rite contrary to that organization’s or individual’s faith. That protection was supported almost universally by the LGBT community — even though most legal scholars agreed that such a protection already exists in the Constitution. We just wanted to leave no doubt.

I was the first major candidate in the 2012 presidential campaign to call for full marriage equality, and Libertarians have long stood for equal treatment under the law for all Americans. As your candidate for President, I will not tarnish that record.

He’s wrong, of course. Public accommodation laws arose from the necessity to protect travelers from harm way back when being denied a room in an inn or a meal at a tavern could be a matter of life-or-death. Getting one’s feelings hurt because someone doesn’t cheer one’s lifestyle does not rise to the level of harm that warrants state involvement. His assertion that the law trumps individual conscience is an odd one for someone who claims to be a libertarian; the Jim Crow laws forced merchants to discriminate even if they didn’t want to, because “It’s the law.”

If a bakery (or a florist, or a photographer) doesn’t want to participate in your wedding, there is a simple solution that doesn’t involve the State, go to another baker. Someone else will be gladly accept the business.

Forcing those who religiously object to gay marriage to participate in gay marriage ceremonies is an act of forced political speech in a way that just selling a generic cake to a gay customer is not. It’s disheartening that Mr. Johnson cannot distinguish the difference. However, since his opinion on the matter is no different than Hillary’s or Trump’s, it isn’t a deal-breaker.

Supporters Raise a Sh’ton of Money for Bullied Christian Family

July 20, 2015 by V the K

The Christian bakers targeted by wedding cake fascists have raised $372,000 from a crowd-funding account. (On top of the money they raised on GoFundMe before GoFundMe caved to the Gaystapo and refused to let them fundraise through that serivce).

There are still tinfoil hatters who think that events like these are a scam; because Christian bakers have to power to force lesbians to sue them, then force Government agencies to enact outrageous fines against them, just so they can then go on crowd-funding sites to cash in.

The left is also spreading a rumor that they were not fined for declining to bake the cake, but for harassing the lesbian couple. This is also false.

Jean-Luc Charles Xavier Bullock Is NOT a Wedding Cake Fascist

Hurrah for Sir Patrick Steward, apparently, his moral compass does not always pint S-o-o-o-o-o-o-u-t-h.

Patrick Stewart has weighed into the ‘gay cake’ debate, saying that he supports the right of the Christian bakers to refuse to ice messages they find offensive.

He’s probably going to catch hell for this; let’s see if he backs down.

Some Animals Are More Equal Than Others

June 2, 2015 by V the K

Evidence has emerged that the State of Oregon coordinated with Lesbian Gay Bullying Totalitarians (LGBT) to destroy an Oregon bakery for wrongthink.

Communications obtained through a public records request show employees of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries—which pursued the case against the Kleins—participating in phone calls, texting, and attending meetings with Basic Rights Oregon, the largest LGBT advocacy group in the state.

Gee, it seems like there’s a word for when the state colludes with a group of people to deprive another group of their rights and property. I can’t think of it right now, but I know that word exists.

But, good news, the SCOTUS has ruled that there is one religion whose members do not have to give up their rights when they engage in commerce. Three guesses which religion that is.

This Idiot Meme

June 1, 2015 by V the K

You have probably seen this meme on the Facebooks, probably posted by a smug, sanctimonious progressive. (Is there any other kind?)

f20a6ce6958413418d998ffa597f088d

First of all, it is – like every progressive left argument – fundamentally dishonest. None of the people persecuted by the Lesbian Gay Bullying Totalitarians (LGBT) have refused to serve gay people. They simply did not want to participate in a gay wedding. Big difference.

Second … and this is the bigger deal … no gay person has ever suffered any real harm because someone didn’t want to bake a cake for them. This is a huge difference than being denied emergency medical care, where there actually is quantifiable harm, despite the dishonest attempts by the progressive left to conflate the two.

In the progressive totalitarian state, there is no tolerance for the individual conscience; only the tyranny of the minority forcing their views on the politically unfavored.

There Is No Appeasing a Fascist Mob

May 22, 2015 by V the K

So, a Canadian jeweler went against his religious  beliefs and complied when lesbians demand that he custom-make wedding rings for them.
But the mob turned on him anyway.

This Christian jeweler agreed to custom-make engagement rings for a lesbian couple, knowing that they were a couple, and treated them politely. But when they found out what he really believed about same-sex marriage, even though the man gave them polite service, and agreed to sell them what they asked for, the lesbian couple balked, and demanded their money back — and the mob threatened the business if they didn’t yield. Which, of course, he did.

It’s not enough for a Christian business to provide service even when it contradicts his moral values, you must celebrate gaydom in all its forms or you will be punished.

More Pushback Against the Wedding Cake Fascists

December 28, 2014 by V the K

Indiana has become the latest state to produce legislation protecting Christian bakers, photographers, florists and others with legitimate moral objections from being forced to participate in gay marriages. Sadly, the Gay Progressive Left (Wedding Cake Fascists) have forced this legislation to become necessary because of gay couples who decided their “Special Day” just wasn’t complete unless they could force unsupportive Christians (but curiously, never Mohammedans) to participate.

The Progressive Fascist Left is claiming that this type of legislation will lead to firemen and EMT’s refusing to provide treatment to gay people, (speaking as the father of an EMT, this is boolsheet). But then, these are the same people who swore that Christians would not be forced to participate in gay weddings, so why should we believe a single damn world that comes out of their lying pie-holes?’

Democrats opposed to the bill claim that legislators should focus on more important things, like condemning the Washington Redskins as racist.

Turning the Tables on Wedding Cake Fascists

December 13, 2014 by V the K

A Christian group went to thirteen gay-owned bakeries and requested each of them to bake a cake promoting traditional marriage; and of course, recognizing that they were obligated to serve any customer regardless of ideological differences, they happily obliged.

Nope, just kidding. All thirteen not only refused, but some were very nasty about it.

Christian bakeries that refuse to make pro-homosexual marriage cakes are persecuted throughout America. They get sued, they get fined, they get death threats, and they lose their businesses. So we at Shoebat.com called some 13 prominent bakers who are either gay or pro-gay and requested that they make a pro-traditional marriage cake with the words “Gay marriage is wrong” placed on the cake. Each one denied us service, and even used deviant insults and obscenities against us. One baker even said that she would make me a cookie with a large phallus on it.

Video at link.

And you know what… I completely defend their right to refuse to bake a cake in support of something they don’t believe in; because I don’t believe people forfeit their Constitutional rights when they open businesses.

It’s the gay fascist left who are the hypocrites.

Wedding Cake Fascists Strike Again

August 21, 2014 by V the K

Once again giving lie to gay activists’ claims that those with religious objections to gay marriage would not be forced to violate their beliefs, a family farm in New York state has been fined $13,000 for declining to host a wedding for a politically active lesbian couple.

Owners of a family farm in Schaghticoke, New York, are being fined $13,000 for refusing to allow a gay wedding ceremony to take place on their property in 2012, just one year after the state legalized same-sex nuptials.

Cynthia and Robert Gifford, owners of Liberty Ridge Farm, a family-friendly farm and special events venue, told Jennifer McCarthy and Melisa Erwin, a lesbian couple from Newark, New Jersey, that they were welcome to hold their reception on the property, but not the actual wedding ceremony, according to Religion News Service.

Liberty is dead.

The Wedding Cake Fascists Are at it Again

August 12, 2014 by V the K

Seems a couple of lesbians got their feelers hurt because a maker of wedding dresses declined to make dresses for them. Rather than do what sane and reasonable people would do (i.e. take their business somewhere where their money was welcome), they decided to attack and destroy the dressmaker for refusing to celebrate their lifestyle; because it has now become the social entitlement of all gay people to have their lifestyles and relationships praised and celebrated by everyone, with severe punishments for those who decline to cheer or even fail to clap loudly enough.

And in Florida, a clergyman is under attack by the Human Rights Campaign (it must be fundraising time again) for refusing to preside at the funeral of a gay man, which he says would be at odds with his religious beliefs. But, of course, gay people’s self-esteem and hurt feelings must trump anyone’s spiritual beliefs, right?

In the Conservatarian view, everyone should have the right to shop wherever they want. BUT, shopkeepers (business owners) should have an equal right to choose not to do business with those they don’t want to do business with.  Some customers will be disappointed, but that situation is preferable to tyranny; and there will always be other businesses for them to patronize.

The liberal/left/progressive view is this: “You will do what we tell you to do or we will use the power of the State to ruin your business and destroy you personally.”

I strongly feel the clergyman (if the story is accurate and there’s no guarantee it is) is wrong to refuse to perform the service, and I would think it would go against whatever vows or covenants he may have made. But as an individual, I respect his right to refuse to be in servitude to someone else against his will. Because I love freedom that much.
